    Nigel was and still is at the top of the guitarist heap. Who else would take his volume control and think to go from "10," to "11?" And then have the GENIUS to realize the one-uppers would try to show him up by taking their amps to "12," so he goes straight to "∞?" Tufnel has simply humbled many a great player into submission. In the guitar universe, he is THE black hole!

    I actually tried his Violin technique, except with a Cello. I couldn't lift the Cello. Now I understand why he used a Violin! Brilliant!!!

    Satch is very good at what he does, but he never thought of using a violin as a bow during one of his guitar solos like Nigel did. That's a whole different level of genius.

    Satriani plays very safe. When you hear him play you're like "that's nice" and forget it the next day. Tuffnel's solos are iconic and 50 years from now will be celebrated as the pinnacle of heavy rock guitar

    once after a concert I asked Nigel to sign my shirt...he said ill go you one better mate and came home with me and mowed my lawn and stayed for a whole week doing my chores for me ill never forget Nigel ...so sad to hear he exploded during his last concert.

    Saw these guys back around 84 when I was in the Air Force at the base I was stationed at the time. They played an amazing version of Sex Farm Woman until the guitar player got mad and threw his guitar down and walked off the stage.

    I remember seeing Tap on the Intravenus de Milo Tour in ‘74. One of the best concerts of my life. Also, regardless of what the critics say, I thought Shark Sandwich was a great record.

      In the late '90s when bookstores were still doing a healthy business I always went in for my electronics mags and they were near the music mags which I didn't bother with but I couldn't help notice that at least one publication every month seemed to have this same guy's photo or at least his name appeared on the covers month after month - Steve Vai.

    I saw Spinal Tap in 1983 in Buggtussle, OK when they were on their “Tap Into Livestock Auctions” tour. Tap fans might recall that this was the concert where their drummer Jackie “Shanks” Slaugh was gored by a Texas longhorn

    One of my oldest cousins drove from New Jersey to Cleveland back in 1982 to see them and he felt he was ripped off because they performed,later he would find out that at that time due to drugs and bad management that tour was a disaster,that particular gig they couldn't find the stage,after thirty minutes my cousin went home disappointed. For the longest he couldn't listen to Spinal Tap.

      Actually, the hallmark of Christopher Guest movies (including Spinal Tap) is NO script. Just like I’m sure his comments on Satch are improvised. I would love a proper sequel... my idea would be to see Tap trying to adapt to the trends since we last seen them; grunge, nu metal (rap metal), etc. would be hilarious whatever they come up with.

    It’s not just Joe, we are all terrified of Nigel as a guitarist. Spinal Tap was so great they would even occasionally play with two basses just to get the point across.

    It's kind of like Mozart. They told him "There's too many notes. Leave some of them out." Nigel is a master at leaving out some of the notes. Usually the ones he should leave in, but that's a conversation for another day.
