Wow, this is a method I should have seen but didn't. Nice work, Brian! Also, it's funny how before all this Microsoft account enforcing became a thing, I was genuinely convinced I was one of the few people that still used local accounts.
Trying more & more to have Users using an MS Acc't so fewer will be going Local which is NOT smart, at all.
1000 yard stare?? it''s over bro we are going home victory
Yeah I think they eventually want to make your account become what Windows is, license and all of that. I hate coupling an account and Windows because I now I have to worry if a pc has my information on it or not. Pretty lame.
@@scrapbrainsinc Your worry is misguided & doesn't hold water. Nothing is "lame".
@@Drew1903SG Get out of here with this nonsense. Go gatekeep somewhere else. You don't have any idea how anyone needs or requires to use their own computer.
Gonna save this video for sure. Appreciate it, Britec!
You're welcome
Should not be thanking anyone for this.
Very good. For now, I continue to avoid 11 like the plague, but this might come in handy eventually.
Be hard for them to block this
@@Britec09 That is good to hear.
@@Britec09 At some point they will just block the access to Command prompt. I think i will switch to Windows 11 LTSC as soon as it's avaliable.
"Avoiding" Win11 is just plain dumb & naive.
@@Drew1903SGRight?! Windows is KANG! I have Windows everything in my house because Windows is the best. Linux=gay and for noobs. Mac=For stupid heads. We are so smart and k00l!
I did this on a Dell Latitude 5590 Laptop and when I opened the CMD I couldn't type. The keyboard wouldn't allow typing. I tried a wireless ketboard and a wired USB keyboard and nothing. I booted from a Linux Mint stick and tested the keyboard on the laptop just to be sure. It worked fine. Back to the CMD prompt to try again. Typing was still not allowed. SO I opened the properties on the CMD prompt and I changed the FONT from 16 to 12. It made it a lot harder for an old guy to read but the keyboard worked and I was able to finish the rest of the process as instructed! Thank you !!!!
Same
I changed the font to 14 and that worked for me. Also, I had clicked past the regional settings and was actually on the "let's get you connected" or whatever it said, and the process worked from that page also.
I'll try that next time. I got through it opening the onscreen keyboard from the accessibility icon in the lower left.
Super easy fix: just press on the command line u want to type. I know it sounds stupid but it worked for me.
Other option is to press ALT and TAB once... then you should be able to type in the CMD prompt (aka terminal) by clicking where you want to start typing.l
fought so many battles so many clean re install.. Sir you are a champ!
Great, I'm 63 I have been using a Microsoft account for a few years. But I think it should be your choice and easy to choose.
@@H2VPROEternal Microsoft collects user data weather you use Microsoft account or not as the telemetry is deeply embedded into windows 10 and windows 11 and even when you go through group policy editor Microsoft will still collect some of user data
@@H2VPROEternal Everybody on the internet collects your data and so does your cell phone.
@@H2VPROEternal It's not even that, Every program wants your data. I just want it to be a free and easy choice whether I want an account or not.
@@1mwls not every program, but most popular ones

This worked perfectly for me. Thanks Britec! Best tip Eva 👏
Most definitely subscribed, this was one of the most useful videos I have seen on TH-cam in a while. Thanks so much for this. Way easier than having to go through the whole regular process. 🔥
It'd be helpful if you included the details of the steps in the description
yes all the steps on all the video's would be so much useful in one big video that would help a lot.
Noted!
Oh my! This works. Thank you a zillion my man. What a relief!
What pros won't tell you. If you cant use shift + F10, try Fn + shift + F10. Sometimes the keyboard on the laptop is set to function keys as default, so if you press just f10 you will be pressing a special function not the actual F10. Leave a like :)
the pros will tell you this
Thanks, Brian that was great to the point.
If you could do that, having yesterday's and today's videos in one will help. That would be great.
Take care
Thanks
The guy deserves NO thanks for this❗
Thank you as always. You Rock Man!
Thanks a bunch! Worked on my ROG ally July 2024
Thank you, you help me very much.I was gonna sell my laptop and I forgot my Microsoft ID
The next step MS is probably gonna take is to block the hole command screen end shift+f10 to force you to go trough the setup forcing a MS account and advertising turned on without any option to bypass anything.
And also there is a possibility that the are gonna block a Windows install from even starting the setup if the iso has been modified by Rufus or any other tool.
I'm not saying that it will happen, this might happen based on the way MS is blocking a lot of bypasses.
Yes I wouldn't put it past them. Micro$oft is rapidly alienating it user base and customers.
Holy smokes I knew they were bad when I went to Linux 5 years ago but I never thought they'd get this bad.
If yes, it would be a tragedy. The European Commission may need to notify Microsoft for enforcement action.
If Users try to not use a MS Acc't, Microsoft has no choice. We had to make using seat belts a requirement for SOME people, too.
@@Drew1903SG I've been a developer for 30 years. How about giving us the choice!?!?!! This is not a life or death issue so stop comparing this to wearing seatbelts. We don't all need to have our hands held NOR should we be forced. If I didn't have to use a particular program which can only be used on Windows, I'd kick Bill and Windows to the curb and be 100% Linux. Fuck Microsoft's dictatorship and it's disrespect for autonomy and privacy.
For laptop you need to press Fn+shift+F10
Great stuff thanks for sharing will be useful 👍
Thanks for watching!

Of course it does it's trolls like you that don't deserve to be even replied to
Now thiiiss😍😂😂😭😭. This is just awesome. Every video didnt work out except for this one. Thank you very much sir. Screw Ocean of games to begin with.
i cant believe i didnt think of this.. i have used this many times in past

great video Brian! Thanks for always sharing with us! Have a great weekend!💖👍😎JP

@@Drew1903SGy not?
You are a Scholar and a Gentleman
Thank you Sir
FWIW, I watched your video from a month ago which said that SHIFT + F10, and then typing oobe\bypassnro didn't work anymore.
I just tried that today (June 7, 2024) and it worked for me...restarted and then provided option for limited sign in.
Maybe it's regional? I'm in Canada. Windows Home 23H2.
Still I'll save this method as well, in case I run into further issues down the road.
Wish I didn't need Windows at all (I skipped Win 8 and 10), but all the automation software I use for work is Windows based. I run Linux Mint at home.
Love Linux Mint
Nice Brian thanks for the video 🙂
My pleasure!!
Does not deserve thanks.
Wow, works like charm! Thank You Master :)
Excellent video, thank you
This Method works great but causes a couple bugs.
I have done this 7 times and on all of them the device can no longer use the shortcut ctrl + alt + del, and the defaultuser01 is left behind.
Any suggestions in fixing these?
just go to local users and groups and delete the default user account and then reboot.
you will be left with only your acc u created
@@xtremeboy0 true, but CTRL + ALT + DEL Still dosent work...
@@TheGamingQuokka any fix?

Worked. Thanks a lot! Dropped a like.
Hello, when it worked for you did “Britec” appears as the local account administrator even though you used a different User name? I am trying to figure out if I made a mistake.
@@yelemartin8910 after it restarts, there is 2 user comes on my screen. “Default” and the one that I created. I choose the user that I created since it has administrator privilages.
And for next restarts, this user choose screen doesn’t show up anymore. It only appears one time and that is after I do this trick .
@@mtshn20 thank you so much. I now see there are 2 different users and I have logged into mine. Thank you.
I might try using this method, but, do I have to select my region during setup?
Very good. Quite easy.
Awesome! Thank you!
worked for me , thanks very much
This is Mint! You slayed it!
i use rufus to make a usb that i can make that will skip the microsoft account can you redue that video it will help alot of people
nice work i will have to try this one😁
Have fun
Nice video Brian but mate I was caught before anything like this hack was apparent to me and I am now stuck with their account which is very annoying as I get lot of tedious messages to sign into that MS account.
Thank you so much
U just gained a member bro ❤
I'm guessing you'd want to add the regedit dword value to disable bitlocker at this same point but BEFORE adding the local user account as it causes a restart. correct? 🤔
Have you tried to install the system with no internet connection? Does it give you an option somewhere to skip the Microsoft account?
No, it does not let you move forward if you don't have an internet connection
@Britec09
Brian can you still use the Group Policy Editor doing it this way if you have a Pro Key? Just curious before I reinstall the opp system!!
As always, thank you for your videos you put up.
helpful video, thanks
Worked thanks
Hey Brian, just wanted to point out you said "slash r" and typed '-r'. I'm assuming '-r' is correct since the process continued without fail.
I used "-r" the first time and only got the "defaultuser0" without my username option. I reinstalled and used "/r" and got both "defaultuser0" and my username to login.
Can i still bypass the microsoft sign up, when I have gone through the whole process of installing. I have done everything up to having to sign up but I have no account or want one. it's a new pc.
If you don't have a Microsoft account, how does that limit your computer usage? Can you still use the Internet? I believe you cannot shop in the MS Store, but I've never needed to. Anything else in the way of limitations?
No everything else is normal
Hey, it worked for me until i restarted my pc. It said password expired, need to make a new password. But i dont have an password with this method. Cant get into windows now, any fix for it?
Yes if you don't mind would you show all of them together so we can know which one will work and won't work thanks
WELL DONE AGAIN. 😉👍🏼
Say, when you run command prompt, can you run Computer Management with compmgmt.msc command and create a local account there through Local Users and Groups? 🙂
That is still possible in the Pro editions. Home editions still have to enter it through the command prompt.
Failed to find the "Administrators" localgroup, says it doesn't exist, please some input here...
Excellent thanks for showing us another way to defeat the windows account being forced on us 👍
I'm still on Window 11 Pro 22H2 and in gpedit clicking on Administrative Templates then Windows Components then scrolling down to OOBE, I disabled it because if you don't according to what is typed there you can't open a local account. I typed all this out in Brian's video yesterday. 22H2 is good to October but I have delayed feature updates for one year. I don't know if that will hold come October. Another nuisance is when I open my email there is a Microsoft 365 advert and I have to always click on the trash can. I guess they don't get the message. I would imagine that Linux usership will be increasing, Linux Mint looks fairly good.
Does not deserve thanks. It is not a matter of "forced", it's a matter of being proper & intelligent.
Thanks for this. have to wonder, though, how long it will take MS to close this loophole too.
Hopefully, by yesterday.
@@Drew1903SGwhy are u so against not using a microsoft account
@@benhanrahan Because from 25 years of being an IT Pro, I know going without is wrong and not smart, at all. It is only shooting oneself in the foot. Much is lost of denied in terms of functionality, what is available & security concerns. Local = limited. It is a really silly way to go. We only use Local to set up machines for clients and switch to MS Acc'ts upon delivery.
@@Drew1903SGClown, no I don't want my ducks cleaned.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
best of the best!
If you have a new device with S mode pre-installed and still on the setup screens(never fully started into a desktop), what would be the best way to proceed?
There was another account named defaultuser0 with it's own password after I did this, was that normal?
Thanks❤
Amazing ❤
Followed your instructions but computer management doesn't contain a local users and groups.
same however i wasn’t on the region selection screen but the wifi screen instead.
I did it and it shows defaultuser0 instead of my created profile (i can chose it also but its not a main choice)
thank you.
It doesn’t work.. after trying to give the local account admin it won’t accept the command…
This worked on an out of the box 22H2 laptop.
Does Windows prompt you after a restart to create a Microsoft account?
*_Am I crazy? Why do people still complicate this workaround. It’s this easy:_*
*_Connect to internet._*
*_Type “user” for Microsoft account email._*
*_Type “user” for Microsoft account password._*
*_It will say the wrong password has been inputted too many times for this account._*
*_Option to make a local account appears._*
*_That’s it. It never fails._*
yes Just tried this and it seems like an intended backend cause it gives you this error even if you try one time only... At this point thats all you need to do.
Unfortunately this is patched now
is it really that simple? lol
that shit has been patched for awhile
@@kamio932 *_Not for me. Just did it earlier this week on a new laptop._*
Thank you.
uh i did on m,y virtual machine too but the screen just went black
It is only a matter of time before you will not be able to bypass all of the login during setup. Best to exit windows and go to something more private and secure.
How can you set up multiple Local Accounts for family members?
Thanks bro
How about bypassing windows 11 home s mode they disabled the shift f10 in there?
Not working with win11 in wmware, account working to login to, but got no admin rights and cant enable anything.
Thanks
After doing this work around for local user account ctrl alt delete don’t work in windows when logged in for logout, lock computer etc menu. Anyone found a fix for this.
Do you necessarily need to create the Administrators account? Can that be removed after the installation of Windows 11 23H2/24H2?
Why the heck would you. There is no (good) reason. YES, the primary account should ALWAYS be Admin.
doesn't seem to be working anymore, still requires microsoft account after rebooting. Retrying the commands returns a message that the user already exists and belongs to the admin group, so that part worked, it just doesn't let you select that account to bypass making a microsoft one.
Works for me still, just did it about 10 min ago.
Can this be made into a script?
I still have to use a Microsoft account because of Microsoft 365. But the username still truncates it to the first 5 digits and strangely, uses my email in winver.
This is a good strategy though, despite the fact that the defaultuser0 account could be what I call a limited account, or an account in which I don’t want my documents to be saved with my name.
I also have a 2015 MacBook Air. It is a local, UNIX-based account. Nowadays the Apple chip nonsense and the soldered SSDs might mean that I might need to purchase a Windows laptop without soldered SSDs (soldered RAM is fine though). However the 2015 MacBook Air is here to stay for at least 10 years.
Hi I was able to set this up with a user name I created but Briantec appears as the local account administrator . Can you advise on how to correct this? Thank you.
Just curious, how or where did you come across this knowledge?
He probably deciphered Rufus. (Still working!). 😊😊
Point is it should not be spread around.
Caution: Microsoft has announced that Bitlocker activation will be required in future updates. If Windows detects (even falsely) that some change in hardware has occurred, you will need to log-in to your Windows account to retrieve the unlock code. What happens if you don't have a MS account? I learned the hard way when Bitlocker locked me out because the free trial of OneDrive was full. I could not get into Windows 11 nor my MS account.
Terrific OS isn't it, people are just loving these changes.
The bitlocker code is in computers you can save it to memory stck or print in out , on fresh install it give ur code
And you can turn it off to
Just another reason why not using an MS Acc't is dumb.
@@Drew1903SG It is not the user trhat is stupid, it is microsoft that is making it hard for the user.
what about upgrading 10 - 11?
😃 yay!
This works, but I can not press Ctrl + Alt + Del on the desktop it does Nothing
Is anyone else with the same issue
So this works if the ip release doesn’t?
Saving this and sending it to a sister who wants to buy a new Win 11 laptop
Looks like it works on Win11 Home or Pro.
Hello great video, does this work now today
Its now asking me for a password
What do i do now

Does not deserve thanks.
@@Drew1903SG yes it does. Without this video there was no chance I would’ve actually made a local account.
Nans computer wanted me to sign into a Microsoft account, I just wanted it so go straight to the Home Screen
@@Xav. Then you would have been better off without this video as one should be using an MS Acc't, not Local. We use Locals to set up machines for clients then switch to MS Acc'ts once delivered which is the proper approach.
It worked but there's another account named "default user" and it's asking for password.... I did use the one I created tho, thanks
