I've switched to Chromebook and will never look back. Unfortunately, I need a third party app that only works in Windows, so I bought my wife a Windows laptop to install it on. Lo and behold, the nasty S-mode prevented me from doing so until I managed to disable it (something went wrong...something went wrong...something went wrong...), thanks to help from my step grandson.
You are a life saver. Was about to return the Open Box laptop which had S mode on. All methods failed. Microsoft Store wouldn't open, CMD prompt disabled and any other recovery mode disabled. Tried your Recovery mode registry hack from your older video. But the SKYpolicy Key was already set to 0. Finally the Secure Boot disabling worked. Thank you so much.
There’s a very easy way to get into the bios without having to find out your bios key. All you have to do is to go into settings, recovery mode, restart now, then when you get to the blue screen go to troubleshoot, advanced options, and Uefi firmware settings
My friend bought a laptop that came with S Mode enabled. When he tried to turn it off it would give an error. We eventually fixed it by reinstalling Windows, but it still sucks that it came with it enabled.
Worked 👏🏻…just one thing, At the beginning of the process in my case the systems asked me for my recovery key, it happens because the drive is protected by bitlocker, it is necessary to deactivate it with the digital key because it does not work if that step is passed. As an alternative... Boot normally, go to the C: drive, right click and disable/turn off Bitlocker. Then shutdown and make BIOS change. Then on next boot, turn Bitlocker back on. That way you don't have to write down or print out the Key and enter it when trying to get into BIOS.

Acer notebooks require you to set a bios password to turn off secure boot Go to security, set the administrator (bios) password, (1111 works fine) then go back and turn off secure boot then you can go back and disable the administrator password by entering it once, then leaving the both of the new PW box empty. HP also is the only one that requires the "bios captcha" from what I have seen.
S Mode should NOT exist. It is like buying a house but you get a TOS from a rented apartment (no pets, no improvements, no noise after 10pm, etc etc etc.)_
There are some situations that demand it. For example, most of the little microPCs like he used for his demo, end up screwed to the VESA mount on the back of a monitor that's one of 200 in an acre-sized room full of cubicles. Network administrators would go nuts without S mode on those PCS. That's why it's NOT enabled on DIY motherboards but is enabled on PCs bound for enterprise use.
Hey sir. Dropping in from Jamaica🇯🇲 to tell you THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!! You helped get me out of that STUPID s mode......it had been a restrictive nightmare! Sir, you have helped THOUSANDS and words cant even begin to describe how very grateful we are. Big up urself 😉 Sending love from Jamaica 🇯🇲
You are a life saver! I had to get a new laptop after my 10+ old one messed up as this one came in S mode. M support tried to get me to spend 200 dollars to get a key to disable it. This completely turned my day around.
Glad I stumbled onto this video. I bought a used refurbished PC, a Dell Optiplex (7th gen i5) and it does not have S mode, or it's turned off. I do run Windows 11 Pro, 22H2 but I can capture from OBS just fine. I had NO idea that the S mode was a thing, let alone prevents non MS software from seeing the computer, like OBS. The place where I bought it is a local computer store here in town that sells both desktops and laptops, Windows/Apple, along with new parts for a DIY build. I don't consider myself a total noob with PC's as I have built a PC once, done many upgrades and used a Windows PC going back to the 386 days.
OHMYGOD THANK YOU!!! I had tried disabling s mode, I’d tried everything else TH-cam told me over and over. I literally followed every step through to the end of the video and S mode is gone!!! That was the most technically advanced thing I’ve ever done, this is so not my wheelhouse but you made it so easy to understand. Liked and subscribed thank you!!!!
I was getting crazy trying to deactivate S mode in an Acer laptop that wasn't able to connect to WiFi because it didn't have the wifi drivers, so i downloaded from another PC just to get to that stupid message saying that I couldn't install the drivers cause of S mode... After getting mad for 30 minutes trying to figure how to achieve that, I found this video and just by getting into the BIOS, establishing a "supervisor password" and deactivating secure boot I finally was able to continue the installation of all the drivers. ¡Love you big beard Bro!
I had to use the registry option, but man this worked and thank you. I could not get out of S mode no matter what I tried. Appreciate you sharing this info for all of us to benefit from.
Absolutely a great tutorial! Anyway, I have good news about the last part: it's not completely true that you can't disable Window S (ass) mode during the installation process. I've just succeeded to do it on a Lenovo pc. I randomly found the right keys combination to make the computer start into the recovery mode. Or maybe it just booted in recovery mode cause I brutally stopped many times the installer startup process. After that I followed the steps you explained, and everything worked like a charm. Disabling the S mode finally gave me back the dear old SHIFT+F10 (or SHIFT+Fn+F10) trick, so though OOBE/bypassnro I could finish the installation setting up a local user instead of an online account. So, thank you so much for your help. Another little victory against microsoft's arrogance.
When I disabled Secure Boot, Windows wouldn't boot because it was BitLocker encrypted, so I turned it back on, booted in, decrypted (which I was surprised it allowed me to do), and retried. After that, your tutorial worked flawlessly. Thank you so much for this video. Everyone else has outdated junk information that is useless. I would have been lost without your help.
In the future my advice would be, always first thing disable Bitlocker. For one the reason you mentioned and most importantly MS stores your encrytpion keys deeming them useless. There is better 3rd party solutions that don't jack a copy of your key. People shouldn't ever fall for the "ms knows best they made the OS" because they might but it isn't your interest they "know best" about.
Unbeknown to me (and probably her too) my wife's HP laptop upgraded itself from Windows 10 Home to Windows 11 and somehow got put into S mode. She doesn't use the laptop very often, but when she tried to install Zoom it wouldn't let her. Then she tried Chrome with the same results. I tried the first CyberCPU Tech video on how to switch S Mode off but it didn't work. I tried again, in case I messed up somehow, with the same results even though I followed the instructions to the letter. The laptop was running version 22H2. Then I came across this video, which starts out with the "just turn off Secure Boot in Bios" which was stupid easy and worked like a charm. I didn't want to temp fate and try to toggle it off and on using the second method. Just for grins I installed Chrome and it was routine. Thanks for the tip on toggling Secure Boot off and on.
Loved the content! As an aside, I also went out and ordered a Mini PC exactly like yours. Was looking for a Mini yesterday, and when I saw yours today, I asked "Why not that one?!"
if you don't know how to enter in bios: when you restart the computer from windows press Shift key in the same time (restart button from start menu + shift). This thing will get you in recovery mode from recovery you need to go to troubleshoot>advanced options and click on uefi firmware settings.
Thank you so much. I just got an acer today for school, going for CIS, and simply wanted to download chrome. I didn’t mind signing in with my outlook account but I guess the servers are down or something because every time I tried to switch out of S mode it would say “Try Again Later”. I found your vid from last year and did all the steps but it was still in S mode. But something told me to just check your other vids and I found this one. I am so thankful. I was able to finally get it out S mode. Thanks so much! For all of your help, you’ve got a new subscriber!
Followed the instructions for a brand new Acer aspire 5 that would not allow me to disable s mode and that was with a Microsoft account. I attempted to shut off s mode via the store and pressing the "get" button however mine continued to fail and said "try again" so I needed to look for a workaround and your method even though I had my Microsoft account enabled worked flawlessly!! Thank you!!
There's only one thing I'd add to the Secure Boot section. In my netbook bios you can't change the security settings unless you have a Supervisor password. So you add one, change the settings, remove it once you're done.
My windows 11 home edition was unboxed with the S mode turned off. Even though I have a home edition I keep getting a message saying some features are controlled by my company? Why?
have you connected to a organisation account and and click yes to give permission to the organisation admin to control the pc ? if yes then that why. if not , it can be a malware the cause or that someone have used that pc before and join a domain (but that only if the pc is used and not new)

Yayyyyy! At last that stupid s mode is gone! All the support threads on Microsoft were useless and I could not get rid of s mode. I think they just want you to give up and live in the tiny little constricted land of s mode forever. I was afraid to go searching this deep into the bowels of my new laptop but you were a good guide and got me there and back safely. Thank you thank you thank you! Have a asus vivobook x515dap_m515DA It works and this laptop has almost the same bios as presented, (version 2.20.1271). For the bios in this asus, it does not allow you to toggle the active (enable/disable). That ability was removed… what you can do is toggle the “secure boot control”… go from enable to disable… then play regedit and set to 0… then return to bios to enable “secure boot control”. Enjoy.
I have a different experience. I tried the full regedit method and did successfully set the policy to zero (verified by going through the process again). The system still booted into S mode! So then I disabled secure boot. That worked!
Thanks for your last video as disabling it without a MS account was a required. I made a throw away account when I bought my parents an inexpensive laptop to set them up on zoom. They are in their 80 and *0's. Promptly forgot about the account. A year later bought another budget laptop with Windows 11 in S mode. Found it impossible to create another throwaway account as my phone number is already used. So I had a new PC I could browse the web, but not install any software with. couldn't even use the trial Office 360 program without logging in with long forgotton credentials. 3 months later, your video was found. Exited S mode and installed the software for my non MS applications. Thanks. A year later upgraded to a multi-touch touchscreen model. Now they added Bitlocker to the mix of things needing disabled to make the change. Thanks for the great work. Still don't know my MS username and password, but do know my phone number. Don't care.
Gosh, for a while I thought this was about a single language Windows, as I read it somewhere recently. Had to google what S mode actually is. And this is what I found: - It’s more secure because it only allows apps to be installed from the Microsoft Store. - It’s streamlined to reduce RAM and CPU use. - Everything a user does is automatically saved to OneDrive to free up local storage. HELL NO! If for nothing else, then OneDrive automatic upload is a big NO NO for me. I want to OWN my data, not being held ransom by somebody else's server. Besides, Microsoft store hosted a trojan previously, as I found out second hand. Can you sandbox and virustotal apps on MS app store?
There is no reason to have s mode at all. They should not buy a computer in the first place if they will "mess things up." Why not just buy an android tablet or iPad? They have more APPs
Thank you so much , I bought a Asus Laptop today and this is the only thing that worked . I started the computer up hit f2 rapidly entered the BIOS went into , Disabled secure boot as you said . And amazingly when I started and wasn’t to the about section I it said windows 11 home only without S mode . Thank you so much . I hope other ppl watch this so they can get help
There is one easy way to do that. If you have installation media just reinstall Windows. S mode will be gone on that computer and you will not see it on there again. Once you get a computer of of S mode you can not get it back in that I know of. That may have been deliberate so that someone can't mess with it and reenable S mode giving you a false sense of security. Other than locking down a PC I am not sure how secure S mode really is.

Hello, excellent work. I want to help a little. It turns out that I was using a client's HP laptop and following your steps it didn't work. Until I calmly saw why. It turns out that at minute 10:36 of the video "you clarify very well that the system is not that of drive X, that drive C must be selected manually", but if they are in a hurry and they overlooked that warning you make, then they will be working on Drive X, so when they restart the system, everything will remain the same. Microsoft must have closed your loophole again. Cannot load the (C-Drive) Hive in the registry. When I try to load the hive, the C Drive does NOT show in the drives listed. So that fix does not work anymore.
You need to install your controller drivers in recovery. Some newer systems have storage controllers that are not part of Windows already and need to be installed first. You would do this by going to the format drive section of setup and pushing the button that says install drivers. Then install drivers that you download from another computer from your manufacturer's website. Then go back in the setup to the beginning and go into recovery.

I have upgraded all of my older PC's using your method and it was successful, but I have run into a problem. Whenever I attempt to open a file using a double click on the file, I get the message "Access Denied when Accessing the user profile". I've checked the security on the file and on the application which is attempting to open the file and everything seems to be OK. When I right click on the file and use the open with command, the file opens normally. Have you either created a video to address this problem or do you know how to fix it?

I fixed it by resetting my PC and signing into my computer and then it worked. But now I have the same problem again. How to fix?

After extraction of the folder for windows file and run COMMAND PROMPT as Administrator to on pressing enter or any button,COMMAND PROMPT CRUSHES or disappears. How can it be fix to download the windows sir. Thanks 🙏 for your advice
Ive used this method many times, and it worked everytime except for when the system completely hid the C drive. Only drive showing was Boot X. I tried again but using a windows installation usb and again it showed Boot X and C (where C was the USB drive). 😅
That just means that the computer you were trying it on has a newer controller that you need to install drivers for. You should be able to boot into an insulation USB and get to the part where you format the drive. Push the button that says install additional drivers and install the driver that should be available from the manufacturer's website. It should then detect the drive and you can use the back button to go back to the beginning and go into recovery and follow the rest of the guide.
Ahh shoot! I should have thought of that, as all my Windows install USBs have a VMD Driver folder! Thank you sir! Your channel has helped me many times.

S Mode must be saved deeper than any of us think. I can give long details (one of those endless battles) but the short: Our charity was given an acer Home S mode. I needed to get it to Pro. (BTW Bios does not allow turning off safe boot.) Booted from rescue stick, in Cmd, Diskpart, ran Clean, so disk has not partitions or anything. Booted from my Win Pro install (we have open license) and installed clean. Came up in Win Pro S Mode. ?! And no way out. Used all of your tricks and many others. FYI, regedit, load hive, the entry you said change from 1 to 0? It was already 0, but still in S mode! Booted from rescue stick with Disk Genius, deleted all partitions and ran a security wipe overwriting entire disk. Then clean Pro install again, and FINALLY Win Pro no S mode.

one thing I still don't know how to solve is the calendar, I like the W11 calendar (the old one) unfortunately Microsoft always forces me to switch to the new Outlook calendar and with that give Microsoft permissions to access my email account and emails but of course I rejected it, the problem is that every two weeks I have to repeat the same process of switching from the new to the old calendar, maybe I'll install a calendar from some other site as long as it gives me notifications of the things I put in the calendar, that's enough for me, it's very frustrating see Microsoft to force customers to change.

@@LostInThe0zone HOA is S mode for windows.
S mode is like a Karen demanding you to swim with a life jacket during a diving course
Big up urself 😉 Sending love from Jamaica 🇯🇲
oh my god, you are a godsend. i had been trying to disable S mode for Hours, and im so thankful for this tutorial. thanks so much man
You are a life saver! I had to get a new laptop after my 10+ old one messed up as this one came in S mode. M support tried to get me to spend 200 dollars to get a key to disable it. This completely turned my day around.
Tried dozens of approaches but after hours of searching, this was the only thing that worked. THANK YOU!
Worked! When everything else failed, this worked. Thanks!
@NubsWithGuns Their latest update broke the clock of all things. Damn right they don't know best, lol.
Brilliant video. Thanks. I don't even need this method, but I've seen so many bad TH-cam videos that I like to praise superb ones.
Great to hear!
@@CyberCPUpls reply to my comment to see if there’s a problem 🥺
what the hell? S mode still exists outside Home Edition? that's illegal.
Was looking for a Mini yesterday, and when I saw yours today, I asked "Why not that one?!"
if you don't know how to enter in bios:
when you restart the computer from windows press Shift key in the same time (restart button from start menu + shift). This thing will get you in recovery mode
from recovery you need to go to troubleshoot>advanced options and click on uefi firmware settings.
Great tip. I didn't think of that.
Thank you!!
After trying a bunch of other stuff... this did the trick. Your the man! Got my Sub for sure!
There's only one thing I'd add to the Secure Boot section. In my netbook bios you can't change the security settings unless you have a Supervisor password. So you add one, change the settings, remove it once you're done.
Thank you!!! I was stuck on this until I read your comment and now I am finally free of S mode Thank you thank you thank you !!🎉
@@theboycanplay you're very much welcome.
My windows 11 home edition was unboxed with the S mode turned off. Even though I have a home edition I keep getting a message saying some features are controlled by my company? Why?
have you connected to a organisation account and and click yes to give permission to the organisation admin to control the pc ? if yes then that why. if not , it can be a malware the cause or that someone have used that pc before and join a domain (but that only if the pc is used and not new)
@@xgui4-studios I have my desktop at home and I am retired. I don't have an organization to connect to. I have tried several malware programs and nothing is flagged. I also installed postmaster just recently. Also systeminternals Suite .
@@xgui4-studios I purchased the computer brand new and it came with windows 10. Microsoft sent me an offer to upgrade to windows 11 home edition for free so I installed that pkg.
I just installed Google, and next I can install lightburn.
Have a asus vivobook x515dap_m515DA
It works and this laptop has almost the same bios as presented, (version 2.20.1271).
And this is what I found:
- It’s more secure because it only allows apps to be installed from the Microsoft Store.
You are a lifesaver! A relative of mine needed help with disabling s mode and the regedit method did the trick! Thank you very much
A gentleman and a scholar, thanks very much, hours spent locked inside S mode, this solved it straight away 👍
Other than locking down a PC I am not sure how secure S mode really is.
what's the Gameboy looking thing with 6 buttons on the shelf behind you?
I did a video about it a long time ago. It's the PiBoy DMG. It's a raspberry pi Gameboy clone. It's really good.

@@CyberCPU Thank you sir :)
S mode should be a toggle at login screen for people to switch over, not a seperate S mode system. This is ridiculous tbh.
At 11:08, it say's File in Use. So you can't open it. However, ControlSet001 is already their, and SkuPolicyRequired is already set to a 0 on 23H2.
It sounds like you skipped a step. Make sure you're opening the system32 from the C drive.
@@CyberCPU - Nope, it goes to the same location. I to was in the network industry for 40 years, and I'm very savvy with manipulating the Registry. So I know what I'm doing. When I got to the same location without all the extra steps you took. It was already showing SkuPolicyRequred with it already set to 0.
@@tubeDude48 it sounds like you're editing a different registry. The recovery environment has its own registry. You need to open the registry for the offline system in c:\windows\system32\
my key was set to 0 by default and the verifiedandreputable key was set to 2, windows 11 23h2 hp model 15-ef2033dx. STILL IN S MODE. also reloading os has [specialize] headers in the autounattended.xml setup script that prevents a plain install of windows from "sucessfuly installing"

my HP PC win 11 is in S mode, I followed ur instruction but had to skip a step u don't mentioned, then found setting was at 0 anyway. I re entered 0 and finished step, but still have S mode.
I've found you have to load an older version of Windows on systems now. I mentioned that in the video.
Very good work, from now on I subscribe to your channel, I am not an IT engineer, I am a Delphi programmer, but I still like that part of Tech.
Regards.
Figured out how to bypass windows OOBE login with S mode without reloading OS.. Put it in retail mode by clicking the region five times then go in to the retail admin account and do everything he showed in the video then shut off the retail account and when you get back to the o o b e screen you can hit function plus shift + F10 and it works
No, even with account, we kept getting "Try Again". We had to disable Secure Boot, then change SKUpolicy to 0, then download and set Chrome to default, then turn on Secure Boot. Was a cheap HP laptop. Many others suffer same issue with those cheap machines.
Glad it helped.
I am still stuck in s mode. What was your solution?
@@BsSands We had to boot in the BIOS, then disable Secure Boot, then log on in, then change SKUpolicy to 0, then download and set Chrome to default, then boot back up in BIOS to turn Secure Boot back on, then log in and we were golden.
@@CyberCPU Oh joy more firmware that can hide and be exploited.

First method failed, second method worked. Finally… thank you
MS must be on to this tip... my "SKU Policy Required" was not 1 but already at "0"(but went through the motions of 'zeroing' the value anyway)... Double-checked Windows specs each time after doing both sets of steps... S-Mode still on 😫😫! Thanks anyway for the detailed tutorial!
Good thing I came across your video. The BIOS method works for my laptop even though my system is running on Windows Home 22H2. Thank you!

If your Controlset001 policy key is set to "0" already yet s mode is still enabled, set the mode to 1, then save, reboot, go back to recovery cmd and set policy to "0" again.
Windows and Linux user here. These last few weeks I've been thinking of ditching Windows all together, since the only thing I do on my Windows PC anyway is gaming and TH-cam. Everything else I do on my Linux Mint PC.
But ever since they announced Microsoft Recall I've been thinking of trying out Linux for my gaming needs too. The only thing that held me back is lazyness at this point.
I can’t just “turn off S mode” the Get button just won’t work, it says Try Again, and “Something happened and we couldn’t start the upgrade” any ideas??? I’ve tried everything
The mess of boot buttons is a nightmare. i love using lenovo laptops because most of them have secondary power button boots to boot options without the drama of other companies.
I remember an acer atom laptop i spent a week to find the boot button. The owner told me he takes it to 3 technicians before me none of them found the boot button, the boot button was alt + f8 and the bios was alt + f12
You are a GENIUS! Everything else I tried failed (even Windows Store) to disable S Mode. Thank you!
Have you either created a video to address this problem or do you know how to fix it?
you are the best!!! thank you so much for helping get rid of stupid mode!! no one else mentioned having to turn off secure mode so I couldn't open the C drive in regedit. p.s. I like your beard!!
No Secure Boot option in your BIOS ? In some BIOS model, you have to set an administrator password to see it. When you have well set the secure boot option, you can set again an admin pwd and leave the typing area empty to disable it. Then, save your BIOS modifications. Have a great deployment.
Thank you so much, I have been in actual tears trying to sort this out and your video has truly saved the day.
I have an account but they wont help me change the pin since i never even know what it was and i. "Forgot it"
Once i press it it just sits on the loading screen forever.
Finally one that worked, I subscribed immediately
This didn't work for me. When I try again, it shows the registry value is already set to 0. So it seems like I did it right, but it is still in S mode. Any ideas?

I have a problem guys and I’d like to see if there’s a solution. So basically, I had a problem after I updated my computer a while back and recently fixed it. The problem was that all my USB ports shut down and only one was working which was my mouse. So I had no internet (internet router connected to my computers USB port), and my keyboard. I fixed it by resetting my PC and signing into my computer and then it worked. But now I have the same problem again. How to fix?
I owe you $10.00 for this. Thank you!
Hi sir . Am having issues of using COMMAND PROMPT to download windows package or files from UUP dump. After extraction of the folder for windows file and run COMMAND PROMPT as Administrator to on pressing enter or any button,COMMAND PROMPT CRUSHES or disappears. How can it be fix to download the windows sir. Thanks 🙏 for your advice
Not working for me. I'm sure the key has been changed because when I repeat the procedure it is already 0.
How can I set up windows 11 home S mode, without a microsoft account? The Shift + F10 trick will not work. Maybe because it's home edition, or S mode, not sure which, maybe both. I also tried loggin into ms account, loggin out and into a local account, then tried the regedit method where you load hive change policy value from 1 to 0, and that didn't take it out of smode either. I guess this is a 2 part question. How to set up windows 11 home in s mode without a ms account, and how to then get out of s mode without an ms account. 2 things that force you to use a ms account. Haven't seen that issue before. It's funny how working around Microsoft's requirements works better than doing it the way they intended. 🤣😂
I don't have a local drive (C:) under the system32 drop down. I have OS (C:). Can I use that?
I’ve done all of these steps, I have a Microsoft account and just got a new product key cause it requested it. I still am stuck on S mode. I am on windows 10. Any other suggestions? I’ll try anything at this point
They forced it on me, this machine never had S mode before.
It is older and used but it was also a family members and I was the one that set it up for them when they got it haha.
The one from a year ago i just watched and worked flawlessly, now on chrome THANKS!
I just bought an hp today and had never heard of S mode. I started watching unboxing videos and saw how mucb trouble people are having getting out of this. Should i just take this laptop back and get something else?
What if it’s not letting me on to the C drive ? (Updated ) disregard I got into it but I followed the steps on an hp pavilion x360 and no luck

one thing I still don't know how to solve is the calendar, I like the W11 calendar (the old one) unfortunately Microsoft always forces me to switch to the new Outlook calendar and with that give Microsoft permissions to access my email account and emails but of course I rejected it, the problem is that every two weeks I have to repeat the same process of switching from the new to the old calendar, maybe I'll install a calendar from some other site as long as it gives me notifications of the things I put in the calendar, that's enough for me, it's very frustrating see Microsoft to force customers to change.
