  • In this video, I'm going to teach you how to settle pigeons quickly and easily. Avoid those critical vulnerable first few days, don't lose them to hawks. I'm going to use three simple steps to teach them how to trap, and then explain why I do it this way.
    Pigeon training can be a challenge, but with a little patience and effort, you can settle your pigeons quickly and easily set them up for future racing success! Watch this video and learn how to do it right, so you can get started and avoid future bad habits with your racing pigeons!

      It does work great, I learned from a guy from Florida. He does this every year but he waits until he has bred all his YB team before he starts

    A follow up. I've been using this system since my comment on the video a month ago. I've since trained two kits of squeakers using this method. Not only did they take to it fast, but the most important thing of all: no settling losses! By stark contrast, I lost HALF of my 2022 racers as squeakers due to BOPs scattering them before they knew where the trap was.

    Oh, I see now that the tunnel is not a full cylindrical; the side edges of it attach to the plank, so almost a semicircle.

    Awesome method. My experiences have been similar to yours with a resident Cooper causing high losses during settling. I lost HALF of my 2022 birds in exactly the same scenario you describe.

      They can be brutal

    • @kerbyjackson88
      @kerbyjackson88 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Little loft on the hill They definitely can. I started racing after 45 years with Rollers. I always intended to race as my grandfather raced, but I always put it off "for later". In addition to finally biting the bullet before I became too old, my roller losses to BOPs were a big part of the decision. I figured Racers would stand a better chance of out running them. I still have Rollers of course, but as an example of my losses, I have only five 2022 rollers left as of this writing. And I bred 135+ last year and stocked or gave away less than 20. Over 90% were lost to BOPs.

    meanwhile, there's a raptor circling far away on the upper left, at 4:04. Isn't it?

    • @littleloftonthehill

      Funny! Most likely a turkey vulture, west of me is flat I am right at the base of the foothills they like the wind current as hot air leaves the valley. Tons of retails and turkey vultures but they have never really been an issue. The problem bird for me is the Coopers hawk.

    Hi Tom! What do you recommend the length and width of the ramp to be? Thanks!

    • @littleloftonthehill
      @littleloftonthehill  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jon, The tunnel is 13” wide the ramp is 16”, length of both 7’6”. All made from scrap. The dimensions are not that important. My table is 3x8. I think it is helpful to be able to set the table in one spot and not have to move it between steps one and two. So the same length ramp and tunnel. Let me know if I can help!

    • @littleloftonthehill

    It sucks that in Germany you can't set traps for eagles and hawks and such. You can get a fuckin gianormous fine and can be also sent to jail🤦 in Romania we used to trap them little fuckers and drive them some hundred kilometres away from the capture place. That usually in like 80-90% of the time solved our issue. Of course,we would being in contact with the other flyers so that we didn't just set them free in their area. But here in Germany it's really a pain in the ass😒 I've had pigeons here for like 4 years now but I'm really starting to think about quitting, ain't no fun to be had with dozens of these fuckers circling my loft every day and week..
