So Maria to give you some context her wardrobe would be used by Völva meaning seer, prophetess, witch, shaman, worker of Seidr (Norse magic), both in proto Germanic & Viking age they were respected and when they came to your village she was always given the high seat she’s above even those who were high society and were often sought out to heal, or used to answer questions about the future as she had contact with the Norns (similar to the fates), and was in contact with Odin, Freyja, and Hel and could travel the 9 realms for those answers. She was also used for weaving a spell against enemies. Most were single but the most famous Völva of the Viking age was Aslaug my ancestor. I’ve been studying he ways of the Völva and Seidr as even Odin sought out the Völva for answers and knowledge. Once Odin was given the knowledge of the Völva he was criticized because it was considered women work and any man doing Seidr was mocked as effeminate and weak. Similar to us today calling someone a soy boy or gay boy it was to shame or mock. However for women who practiced Seidr were seen as someone who doesn’t fit in societal bounds she was more than the average persons even kings would give the high seat to her at dinner.
I am glad that you give this extremely exceptional Nordic group a chance. I tell you a little about its history. The group, which are two boys and one girl, have Norwegian, Danish and German nationality and uses instruments such as horns of different animals, drums, human bones, rattles with human ashes, bells, stones, all to go back to the first musical compositions that They were able to interpret 10,000 years ago, in the iron age in northern Europe. All the letters are taken from carved gadgets from the era of the Nordic iron, such as arrowheads, bows, swords, rune stones and recite poems and psalms of war, peace and protection. Whereupon and for this, heilung, which means healing in German, is in close collaboration with archaeologists specializing in the field. The languages used by heilung are several. Among them are Latin, Old Danish, German and English. They were so successful with their first album that they had to release a new live album, which includes 2 new songs. Also a video of that album live and this year they released their second work, futha, which is a much more feminine work. His first album, Ofnir, is much more aggressive and masculine. During the concerts some representations of how these ancient rituals of the iron age could be made. Also just finished the soundtrack of the video game Hellblade 2. I hope this review helps you to understand a bit the context of this musical group. I recommend this video of her concert. th-cam.com/video/h1BsKIP4uYM/w-d-xo.html Some curiosities. When they built the drums for the group, one of which is made from horse skin, a doctor drew blood from the three members of the group and painted the drums and some of their clothes with it. The male singer with the deep voice is a great tattoo artist and very professional. The bones the girl plays with are human bones and sometimes they have had problems in the countries of the tour to introduce them through the border from the country where the concert was held.
Thank you for all this information Nidels! Definitely have a better understanding and perspective of who and what this band is now and can't wait to hear and learn more about them. We'll check out your suggestion. 👍
@@muzikphiles6589 This could be a little guide to the concert: Melodic and shamanism: Fylgija Ear / Futhorck, Othan, In Maidjan, Carpathian forest, and finally Krigsgaldr, already heard by you. Warriors and aggressiveness: Alfadhirhaiti, Hamrer Hippyer, Hakkerskaldyr. Heilung's last official video: Norupo.
@@muzikphiles6589 This ass makes the same post under EVERY reaction to Heilung. He's wrong about several things and is spamming this exact same comment under every reaction to Heilung.
Always watch their live videos from that gig (LIFA - Castlefest 2017) if possible - it carries so much more atmosphere than the studio versions generally do. And yes, those are real bones and antlers - the pair Maria is using are a human's forearm bones. The drums are also animal hide, and one (I think the one Kai Faust - the guttural male vocalist - uses here) is apparently decorated using human blood. I recommend Alfadhirhaiti for a heavier, more warlike vibe, and Norupo (their new music video) for a more relaxed, peaceful feel. In Maidjan also has some incredible vocals
No she is not. Or, according to size and proportions, which bones do you think they should be? Ulna and radial bone? Maybe, but with a size like they show, the person would have been less than 150 cm tall, assuming they actually are genuine human bones and not recreations or bones from other mammal. Or do you want to tell us, they are not only human bones, but bones from a human child? And it wouldn't fit the concept of the band anyway, as Heilung means cure or healing, the healing of mankind to be precise. Even in this particular song they sing about peace, which does not mean they'll defend themselves and their beloved ones if they are forced to. Beside the circumstance that, as far as I know, using human bones in such a way would be against the law in Denmark, Norway and as well in Germany, where the band members primarily come from. At least of one country I am sure as I have read the corresponding law. No need to further mystify this band. They are great enough on their own.
@@pami333 It`s human forearm bones.Ulna and radius. And you are allowed to use human remains for art, as long as they were donated (take the body worlds exhibition for example).
Around the part of 09:00 they’re showing how the berserkers would work themselves up into a sort of trans like state of rage (sometimes with the aid of psychedelics) the song is called krigsgaldr, meaning hymn to war basically.
Thanks for the reaction. Amazing band. A recommendation: Heilung's new video for "Norupo" (th-cam.com/video/64CACoHNBEI/w-d-xo.html). This song is about the "Norwegian Rune Poem" that basically is a poem from the 13th century to help people memorise the pronounciation and meaning of the runes. It covers the 16 runes of the Young Futhark alphabet if I'm not mistaken.
the female singer attire is inspired by a real one that was found in a dig in Sweden and it belonged to a seer a female shaman and that's the role Maria Franz has on stage.
Great random pick from this group to react to. Heilung is an amazing group, and much as you said in the video, this isn't cos-play, but some things has to be given an freedom for artistic interpretation. First and foremost there is that a viking drum has NEVER been found on an archeological site, ever. But they surely had drums though since there is no other known culture that didn't have a percussive instrument. Lyrics are loosely based on old sagas and runestones, but also what other cultures has noted and written about the northern europeans, the "growly" style of singing is based on that. Heilung like to see each perfomance as a ceremony and you are supposed to "feel you are a part of it" more than anything else. Works pretty well since not many that listens to this song, for instance, feels like they've listened for nine minutes, often the "experience" is believed to be 3-4 minutes... Anyways, it was refreshing to actually hear some insightfull comments about how christianity was introduced into the 'pagan' areas of europe (and the rest of the world). Also, you could check out their official video for Norupo, it will take you on a journey both visually and through the music. Ehh, sorry that I got a bit carried away and dropped this wall of text here, I'll hit that 'sub' button on the way out to make up for it.

Maria is actually banging human bones together.
Krigsgaldr means "War-spell"

Try Phurpa. Tibetan mantras throat singing. Authentic musical instruments made of human bones, ash, skin. Very powerful.

Alfadhirhaiti is a nice song to listen to.
