How I Barra swapped my Ford XG Falcon using mainly Ford parts

  • Hey guys as promised here is the N/A nearly all Ford version (this barra swap & other mods was done around 7 years ago)that uses mostly all Ford parts and you could use the XG's engine mounts to Barra a XD XE & XF Ute's in the same way and variations in the XD XE XF sedans as well using the the same principals of how all these parts can work together.

    Y xg yeah Narr xh is way better power rack pinion steering and a proper k frame the other way to go for xh would be adding a fg front k frame and suspension parts quite easily

      If I'd had an XH at that time that would be better option,but had the XG so I went with what I had and jammed the Barra in,had it on the road for 3 years and as I said in other comment-was an absolute pleasure to drive 👍

      Yes rego was a problem but got 3 years under the radar-so to speak,not sure how engineering would go set up this way.

      Hi mate, yeah the best diagram of the EEC relay (shows the diode needed) is in the Haynes workshop manual chapter 12-15 in the Chassis electrical system.

    Hey mate awesome build details thanks really appreciate it I'm trying to find someone who has done a swap with these mounts and fitted a standard turbo and manifold. Is this something you tried? Cheers

      I did end up going turbo with the ute but with aftermarket engine mounts,it may very well work with the XG mounts though as it sits higher in the bay. If you have a look through my videos there's a XG Barra turbo video too.

    hay mate i just did a barra swap on xf ute how do you get the trans crossmeber to fit btr !

      By using the XG btr extension housing on the Barra Ion box (they are nearly the same box) it fitted like normal XG trans would.

    I have a mint XG that i want to do the same with , even though it has an all new single cam motor . Would you recommend getting a complete donor car car ?

      Yes definitely as trying to get all the individual parts may end up quite costly and the fact that you will have all the wiring ECU throttle pedal etc...etc... plus if you get a doner car you can at least test everything in it before you start-making sure its all good.

      @@albypapa3513 Hi mate mine being a XG I used the same heater tap setup that was in the XG on the barra heater pipe on the cold side worked good-didnt have a/c though.

    i can get a front damage 2005 wagon with 250,00 km $2,000 no throttle pedal , is this near enough ?

      Yeah the prices are just going up and up🤯,so this would still be great starting point seeing as you would only need the peddle,send them a smaller offer and see what they say-cant hurt to ask👍

      The harness for the Barra has the plug to use the output shaft speed sensor or VSS on the gearbox then it's wired to the Speedo,use workshop manuals from both XG (or whatever car it is) and the barra and work out what needs connecting.

    Got an offer i couldn't refuse on the XG , but in the meantime i bought a BA Wagon front smash . I have stripped it and i've got rid of most of the excess wiring and a mate is about to delete the PATS . I will get the whole thing running again on a bare bones harness , then look for some other donor car . Do you have any advice on exactly which wires still need to be kept ? I haved tagged where they all go , but not sure on a couple of them .

      If you are going auto you can leave the engine harness as is-or if manual you can remove the trans wiring like in my last video or just tie them up out of the way,just work out what the ECU needs to function VPWR- KAPWR and the relay for it(ECU) and then just concentrate on what the engine needs to run and just work on one system at a time and you will get there 👍 Workshop manual wiring diagrams and download all the wiring diagram & pinouts from Ford forums or similar.

      @@hcfcustoms Thanks bud , nearly there , but have acouple of small red/ blue and a red dwire that are linked to the trans , that don't appear in the shop manual . I'll keep going thanks .

      Hi mate, couldn't tell you in exact numbers but in comparison to the OG XG engine it's a very noticeable difference even more so with the underdrive harmonic balancer and also the FG inlet manifold.

    Do you need to engineer certificate for the swap

      Yeah you would definitely need engineering for the long run-which is one of the reasons I took it off the road after a couple of years-but talk to the engineer directly and see what they need to pass!

      Not sure what you mean but XD XE & XF prices have shot through the roof recently and are a solid vehicle XG & XH are going up the same way,other than that the X series with Barra are a pleasure to drive just as the E series + Barra are😉👍
