Bo Diddley just buy his baby diamond ring
If that diamond ring don't shine
He gonna take it to a private eye
If that private eye can't see
He'd better not take the ring a-from me
Bo Diddley caught a nanny goat
To make his pretty baby a Sunday coat
Bo Diddley caught a bear cat
To make his pretty baby a Sunday hat
Mojo come to my house wi' black cat bone
A-take my baby away from home
Up in that fo' door a-where you been?
Up yo' house and gone again
Bo Diddley, Bo Diddley have you heard?
My pretty baby says she wants a bird.

Before anybody dared to play Rock n' Roll, Bo Diddley was doing his thing, and doing it well. You just have to give the man full credit for inventing one of the most unique styles of music.

For all the youngsters view this is R&B, Rhyme and Blues. Not the modern R&B which us old timers called Soul. Bo inspired bands like The Rolling Stones. Go Bo Go!

Before I play my guitar for the day I play this song and 'Who do you Love', then kickaround my own thing into it - now I'm ready for the day, because everything I play from Rolling Stones to Frank Marino owes this man some credit.

On this day in 1955 {November 20th} Bo Diddley appeared on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'...
He was asked to performed the song "Sixteen Tons", which at the time was on the Top 100 by Tennessee Ernie Ford and Johnny Desmond...
But instead Mr. Diddley performed his signature song "Bo Diddley" and as a result was banned from the show for life...
R.I.P. Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1974} and Mr. Diddley, aka Ellas Otha Bates, his birth name {1928 - 2008}...

There is NO way music will ever get better if the young artists of today do not start to study the incredible pioneers of rock n roll and R&B of the 1950s and 1960s like Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Elvis Pressley, James Brown and Carl Perkins etc... the young kids who are making up the music day have no clue where to go, because they have no idea how the "modern crap" that they turn out came to being. They are lost and need to turn to the roots of the modern pop music (which is the pioneer era of Rock N Roll and R&B) to understand where to go !

Bo came to play in my town in the Tarentum PA. Roller Rink in the mid 50's. ! of all places. The music could be heard 3 blks away. We danced and had a ball. Several car loads of us followed him to gigs night after night in small towns around Pittsburgh PA. (Our "mixed" group of friends made up of both whites & blacks ran into a problem at one AMERICAN LEGION HALL where our black friends were denied entry to the dancehall. We complained but the show went on...we all went home !

I was at this gig! Chuck Berry didn't go on because they wouldn't let him headline the show, and had BB King at the top of the bill. Most of the audience didn't understand a single word of what was being said, it was hilarious! Dave Edmunds led the "house band", except in the case of James Brown who used his own band. Ray Charles was on the bill as well. Jerry Lee Lewis was insane, and he stole the show! Thank you so much for posting this

@1970metalfan the great Mr. Bo Diddley passed away on June 2, 2008. We have lost one of the very few remaining originators of "rock" music. I assume Little Richard and Chuck Berry are still with us, but if I hadn't googled Mr. Diddley, I probably wouldn't have known he had passed either. For your reference, here's the url He was 5 months shy of turning 80 years old. We are lucky he gave so much joy and many examples are on yt, may he rest in peace.
