Bruce Springsteen has a great line about Jackson Browne's song writing something like "when women listen to Jackson's songs they finally hear a man who knows as much about love as they do, and when men listen to Jackson's songs they realize they know more about love then they thought they did". He is one of the great songwriters of our time. I have been listening to his music my whole life and 40 years after I first heard "Running on Empty" right up to today the songs still speak to me they often say things I hadn't heard before.
Jackson Browne is a master of the bittersweet. There's a whole wealth of this genre in his back catalogue. However, if you want to try something of his with a different flavour, have a go at "Lives in the Balance" (with lyrics). Keep up the good work...
I believe when he sings “ How long have I been sleeping , hoe long have I been drifting along through the night”. I feel he means how long was the relationship over and he didn’t see the signs . You are right everybody has been dumped before and it is the most painful thing to hear from the one you love is ‘ I don’t love you anymore . ‘
Nobody can paint the dilemma of the soul quite like Jackson Browne. He is hands down the best lyricist to have pen put to paper and then to voice and music.
I had this album in my early twenties. When my first adult relationship ended, I obsessively listened to this record every night over and over, and cried my heart out. Good news, though, that man (my ex) and I have been very good friends for over 30 years now. Sometimes romance turns into a deep (non-sexual) relationship. Music helps. Thank you so much for reacting to this.
Beautiful and sad song. Jackson Browne is an amazing tale-teller/song writer! Lives his songs, this one about his wife passing away, it just breaks your heart as you can feel the hurt and pain in his heart. Thanks for reacting to this great man's songs!
Not to be critical, but I am certain that at the time this album was made his wife was still with us. It was subsequent to this album that she committed suicide leaving him the single father of an infant son. The Pretender album speaks specifically to that loss, Sleeps Dark and Silent Gate and Here come those Tears Again as just two examples.
A Jackson Browne song can cut to the bone without using a saw. He is a performer/songwriter who claims to be a songwriter, first. The Pretender...These Days...Running On Empty...For A Dancer; these songs are some of my favorites ♥️
The 70's was JB's most creative decade w/ one great album after another. "Late For The Sky" is probably the best of the bunch, though 'The Pretender' & 'Running On Empty' were more commercially successful.
I lived in the South of France in the early 90s..some girl gave me a mix cassette and this was on it. Never knew what it was. When I moved back to the UK I went in a record store and sang the 1st line to the guy serving. He knew it straight away.. been a fan since.
My mom was really into this album when I was a kid. A few years later as a teen I _really_ listened to it and was astounded by the depth of the lyrics. I believe this was his third album. I didn't care for his later stuff as much but and I'd put his first three albums against anyone. They are all supreme works of art and David Lindley's slide guitar playing is just sublime. If you're interested in more try: - _Jamaica Say You Will_ - _Song For Adam_ - _From Silver Lake_ - _Looking Into You_ - _My Opening Farewell_ - _These Days_ - _The Times You've Come_ All are lyrical masterpieces, as are so many other JB songs. These are just some that come to the top of my head.
Love that you are reacting to Jackson Browne. Check out “Fountain of Sorrow” - similar theme with equally beautiful lyrics. Possibly even more poignant than “Late for the Sky”, it’s his reactions to finding a photo of his ex and the subsequent thought processes it triggers. Wonderful songwriting and storytelling.
Jackson's always been about honest feelings, compassion, showing his inner side. Check out The Pretender, Doctor My Eyes, World in Motion, My Personal Revenge, The Hold Out, Rosie, Chasing You into the Light.
Doctor My Eyes and Song for Adam are two of my favorite Jackson Brown songs, also very good. He is a great story teller, he writes such raw emotional lyrics. I wore his records out in my 20's! Don't like him for his personal life, but his music has had a big influence on my life.
I know that feeling too, there's no better song that I can relate too lately. So sorry you know that feeling too but... from the ashes of sorrow may rise happiness, maybe...
This was my life for 19 goddam years. I just told my daughter that she is 22 and rich in years, but you can waste them so easily, and there are no redo’s.
The thing about all these reactions *everyones* is that this used to just be 'pop'. Played on the radio. Late at night these deeper cuts from the albums. JB for all his success always sounded like he wished he had talent like his friends. Townes Van Zandt was full of that angst of songwriting too. The joke about him diving into the garbage dumpster is legend.
Please do JB’s “The Prentender” and “Running on Empty”. Both were major hits for him. Legendary and insightful lyricist. Truly has his finger on the pulse of the human condition.
Really should also sample Jackson Browne’s first two albums from 1972 and 73. Something Fine. These Days...written when he was 14 maybe 16 Take it Easy/ Lady of the Well and Sing My Songs to Me/ For Everyman...these are paired songs with nice transition between them.
Beautiful reaction. We’ve all been here. You should react to “Farther On” by Jackson Browne. It’s a song about life’s journey and the people you meet along the way
Jackson Browne has a lot of great songs. I like "Rosie" &"Ready or Not"& of course "Running on Empty". Oh also "These Days" made a hit by Gregg Allman but the best version is from Gregg Allman all my friends which features Gregg Allman and Jackson Browne.
He wrote a timeless classic song called "These Days" when he was 16 years old. It was originally recorded by Nico (who sang on some tracks on the first Velvet Underground album) and you might want to react to that recording. However, Jackson Browne performs the song quite well too, as should be expected.
My favourite song is the religiously laden Colours of the sun. My favourite line is "I say goodbye to Joseph and Maria" spoken by a Man departing for Jerusalem to meet his destiny.
For me, It's about a short relationship, not a long one. An empty one night stand, where he realizes the relationship is little more than a physical passing. is there anything sadder?
Bruce Springsteen has a great line about Jackson Browne's song writing something like "when women listen to Jackson's songs they finally hear a man who knows as much about love as they do, and when men listen to Jackson's songs they realize they know more about love then they thought they did". This is to me one of the most universal/underrated songs of all time cause many of us has felt and related to the words of this song.
Fact
This song was playing on the TV when Travis Bickle ( Robert De Niro ) starts losing his mind in the movie " Taxi Driver "......😎
That's where I first heard it. Great song.
Great film and great song

Yep that's where I heard it.

"Looking hard into your eyes, there was nobody I'd ever known. Such an empty surprise, to feel so alone..." Not many people can write like that
I had this album in my early twenties. When my first adult relationship ended, I obsessively listened to this record every night over and over, and cried my heart out. Such a damn good song, my favorite songwriter of all time.

@@jamesbassett1484 Thank you James...couldn't be positive without looking it up!
"You never knew what I loved in You, I don't know what You loved in me, maybe the picture of somebody You were hoping I might be" 💔
Love this song. One of his most requested songs in concert!
Another song off that same album is "For A Dancer". Great song.
Greatest song of all time
Jackson Browne by far is my favorite singer songwriter and has many more great songs that tell a story .
This song is recognized as his masterpiece. Thank you for letting me appreciate it even more.
"I know that feeling..." Sad to say I think we all do, sweetie. At one time or another.

DEEP, DEEP, DEEP.
I love Jackson Browne.

This is one of the greatest songs ever
Glad to see a reaction to this awesome song
My favorite song (of many of my JB favorites) to belt out at the top of my lungs! Headphones make it all the better!
You have an amazing channel and awesome reactions. Very real:)
Most of us know that feeling. It's songs like this that help us make it through to the next time.
Still loving Jackson Browne all these years later # memories

Greatest breakup song ever written.
Love is such a brutal emotion.
Esp for those who genuinely have feelings for other people and don't get it reciprocated. I feel your pain 💔
Love all of his music, lyrics are still so relatable. Nostalgic.
I watched this reaction a second time, 1 month later. I've seen many reactions of yours. This is the best.
Beautiful Song
Song hit me between the eyes after 34 yrs. Like he read my mail. That was12 yrs ago and this song still slays me.
Jackson's always been about honest feelings, compassion, showing his inner side. Check out The Pretender, Doctor My Eyes, World in Motion, My Personal Revenge, The Hold Out, Rosie, Chasing You into the Light.
A masterpiece from the great "pretender". Jackson clyde Browne
Interesting to see how a high energy person like that might react to such a mellow song.
Doctor My Eyes and Song for Adam are two of my favorite Jackson Brown songs, also very good. He is a great story teller, he writes such raw emotional lyrics. I wore his records out in my 20's! Don't like him for his personal life, but his music has had a big influence on my life.

Try his Sky, Blue and Black
India, you nailed it. You are an emotionally developed person.
Hiw the heck did you do this and it's just now showing up in my feed. I love Jackson 💙 try Jamaica say you will.
My favorite JB song. Amazing art.
Really should also sample Jackson Browne’s first two albums from 1972 and 73.

Yeah that's the thing about JB he writes and sings about human things that are common to us all.
You should redo this with the volume of the song full up from the start. Why only boost the volume halfway through?
Listen to the full album! He’s thee best EVAH!!!!!! 😎☮️♥️🎶
My favourite song is the religiously laden Colours of the sun.
My favourite line is "I say goodbye to Joseph and Maria" spoken by a Man departing for Jerusalem to meet his destiny.
Excellent and wondrous react vid, late for the sky is sempiternally deep deep
Raw raw emotions indeed...
(If you love me) - Jamie foxx
WELLLLLL 1 THINGS FOR SURE GIRL, YOU HAVE ALOTTAAAAA JACKSON BROWNE TO DO!!! LOL :) HAPPIERT HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND YOURS.
Suggestion: From Jackson Browne’s “Lives in the Balance” album, “Black and White”.
what is with the volume being low on the song but high on you?
I bet Mark Knopfler used to listen to David Lindley.
Thank You
OOPS! HAPPIEST DAMN FINGERS :)
Best sean in Taxi Driver! Check it out again
You need to up the volume of what you're watching
For me, It's about a short relationship, not a long one. An empty one night stand, where he realizes the relationship is little more than a physical passing. is there anything sadder?
Try Fountain of Sorrow next
Rumor was that this was about his break up with Darrell Hannah who he had been in a LTR with.
JB wrote this song at the time he was breaking up with Joni Mitchell, so it could be about the end of that relationship.
The ultimate break up song.
taxi driver- late for the sky
Since I'm not seeing any other similar comments...his girl committed suicide.
@rnnnmt well said.
@rnnnmt Just looked at your playlist. Absolutely love, "I am a patriot."
Hey, try a recent JB song "A Human Touch"
"Running on Empty" was my favorite song of his. th-cam.com/video/LNmIbSre7Tw/w-d-xo.html
