Dig into more Jackson Browne. He is an amazing songwriter and performer. I’ve been a fan since his beginning. Late For The Sky is a stunningly great album.
Bruce Springstein introduced Jackson into the Rock hall of fame. Bruce said Late for the Sky was Jackson's masterpiece. I agree. The entire album is excellent.
Jackson Browne started his career writing songs for other artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (he was briefly a member in 1966) & the Eagles (Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy"). But in the 70's he started recording his own songs. He had a lot of hits 70's-80's such as "Doctor, My Eyes", "The Load Out/Stay", "Rock Me on the Water", "Here Come Those Tears Again", "The Pretender", "Running on Empty", "Somebody's Baby", "Tender Is The Night" etc.
One of the great poet laureates of my generation. Genius songwriter, astute arranger and blessed with a voice that could sing the phonebook and the audience would be held in thrall. He's my Music Man!
Jackson Browne has such a beautiful voice, with a melancholy tinge to it. He also surrounded himself with the top studio musicians of that time ( The Section) to be on this album and it shows. Beautiful melodic bass by Leland Sklar, soulful guitar by Danny ( Kootch) Kortchmar, drums played for the song perfectly by Russ Kunkel. Top studio musicians all. All still with us and performing.
I don’t believe these guys all played on this album. Jackson was forced to use his touring band of David lindley, doug Haywood, Jai winding and Larry Zack to record this album to save money. David Geffen wanted it done fast and cheap
@@truckrboat huh. I heard Jackson say, in the new documentary about about these guys, that when he was planning his Running on Empty project, he wanted the same studio musicians who had been on his past albums. So I just assumed it was The Section on this. Were they all on The Pretender album?
Jackson is a master songwriter. So glad you finally got around to checking him out. Gotta check out The Pretender, Running on Empty, Doctor My Eyes, and The Load-out/Stay for starters. They're among his bigger hits, and they're all a whole lot deeper than your average hit song. For a Dancer (also on this great album) is another song much beloved by his fans - just have some Kleenex nearby.
Ah good man. Never thought anyone would do this despite asking many times. Probably my favourite album. Jackson is a poet with some of the greatest lyrics out there. Jackson was inducted into the Hall of Fame with a speech by The Boss - well worth watching Almost all his lyrics are personally inspired. Try Of Missing Persons, written for Inara George when her father, the great Lowell George, died. I played it reoeatedly thriugh the nights after my father died. When I was in the process of divorce this sing came to me repeatedly too: "Awake again, I can't pretend And I know I'm alone and close to the end Of the feeling we've known". This is the album I come back to Thank you so much for giving this great artist and great song, some exposure From this album akso, For a Dancer (another written about soneobe he knew), Fountain of Sorrow and Before the Deluge are all superb I can tell you that Jackson is overflowing with music. When I have seen him live, bhe introduces his songs with a little talk but he stands or sits and as he talks, he cant gelp but pick out chords or little runs on the piano - music runs through him like his blood.
This was released when I was 17. Listening to it, I reckoned that Jackson Browne had the answer to all of life's questions. I had no idea what those questions might be but I was sure Jackson would come through. Now, I realize that he has no more idea than this once 17-year old had and is still figuring things out for himself, like we all have to do.
I remember when this album first came out I listened to the whole album over and over. I think he is a musical genius who has a way of perfectly expressing in his lyrics and music the themes, complications, and questions that we all face in our relationships and lives. I think you're now officially a fan of Jackson, welcome!
he's one of my favorite singer-songwriters, i hope you check more of him out!! "you never knew what i loved in you, i don't know what you loved in me. maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping i might be" is an awesome line!
Easily a top ten album for me. I love Browne's lyrics. Late for the Sky is perhaps the greatest song ever written about a failed relationship. Such a beautifully sad song. The whole album is fantastic. Lyrically my favorite song on the album is Farther On but For a Dancer is IMO the best song on the album (and that is saying alot). You definitely should listen to more of Jackson Browne.
One of my favorite albums of all time. And yeah, I’ve been one of those rooting for him allot on your Patreon. 😁He’s one of my favorite artists in this genre and always gets me “in the feels” as they say these days. Saw him this past September and it was a wonderful concert. Once again, PLEASE do an album reaction….to this, or The Pretender, or his live album Running on Empty.
At 6:22, I can see that you "get it". Jackson Browne composes so many stellar songs. He is one of the best singer/songwriters around. He can still fill a concert hall or performance theatre today.
He toured with Linda Ronstadt where they would change opening for each other throughout the tour. My high school Art teacher turned me onto both Jackson Browne and the Moody Blues,
Repeat offender here. Thanks so much for this Christmas surprise. FOR A DANCER and FOUNTAIN OF SORROW are damn near harrowing to listen to. But I still do regularly. This is my deserted island album if you can only have one. And THE LATE SHOW is the go to song on LATE FOR THE SKY. THE SHAPE OF A HEART and SKY BLUE AND BLACK are my nugget requests. I repeat THE SHAPE OF A HEART and SKY BLUE AND BLACK come highly recommended.
This was such a great reaction because one could see a visible change in your reaction as the lyrics were sinking in. At first, you were just chilling with the vibe, then at 6:25 the power of the lyrics hit you. By the 7:00 minute mark, you are reflecting hard on what Jackson is singing and your entire demeanor changes. That is what the best of music does … it’s moves you, touches you, and sometimes grabs you by the throat. Thank you for allowing yourself to be moved by this iconic song. Great reaction/review! 👏👏
Speaking of Jackson Brown and the album Late for the Sky = try listening to "For a Dancer" - if it doesn't make you think, cry and be so moved, you have no heart. Great reaction Salvo!
'Been requesting Jackson Browne for some time now - 'knew you'd appreciate and enjoy him. Please react to more. FOR A DANCER Before the Deluge These Days are a few favorites.
Good reaction to one of the great songwriters ever. I was a young man when his songs were popular and quite honestly for a time I had almost forgotten about him. Currently though, I have a half dozen of his songs on my playlist. He has that combination of great lyrics and a great voice. Then to top it off, he had such an ability to compose his songs in a way that just sucked you in.
I feel like this track gets ignored so I’m very happy you hit it. So good and brings tears to my eyes every time. I actually first heard it on the 1976 movie Taxi Driver starring Robert De Niro. It’s quietly playing in the background during one scene. This right here gets me every time… “You never knew what I loved in you, I don't know what you loved in me. Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be. Awake again, I can't pretend And I know I'm alone and close to the end of the feeling we've known”
Thanks for this great reaction video!! I love Jackson Browne and saw him in concert at a No Nukes Concert in Santa Fe New Mexico in 1981. I was 16 years old and had all of his albums. He is am amazing song writer and singer/musician. He is truly gifted. Be sure and check out some of his lifelong live performances. He is just brilliant. He was so young writing music as if he was an old man. He is definitely an old soul. He has some interesting interviews of his younger days and talks about the crazy times living in California. Brilliant !!
"Rock Me on the Water" remains my personal favorite and "Running On Empty" is so easily relatable to anyone looking back after a certain point, but any of the noteworthy songs mentioned by other comments here are worth your time, Salvo. Please go further with Jackson Browne.
here are some of his most poular songs you should start with- doctor my eyes, the pretender, the load out and stay( i would play these 2 songs back to back),running on empty, tender is the night, lawyers in love.
One of the best songwriter albums with other masterpieces like For A Dancer, Fountain Of Sorrow and Before The Deluge (unique the live version of the No Nuke concert including The Crow On The Cradle with Graham Nash). Right now is the time for such good music!❤! But I also like the 80s albums like Live In The Balance and I'm Alive.
Probably my favorite songwriter, musician and artist in my life. And a genuinely nice guy backstage, too. (Yes, I met him.... great soul.) Every song from this album is exceptional but try listening toThe Late Show song.... it's always overlooked but it hits me deeper than all of the others.
For most of my late teens and twenties, Jackson was my favorite. I’ve seen him in concert at least three times. He’s written so many great songs - both music and lyrics. His words spoke to me. He was easy on the eyes, too. ☺️ His first six albums are all pure gold.
Okay, this one was gonna make you or break you for me. It made you, for me. Great review. Browne is right at or near the top of my all-time favorites list. Listen to more. You can't go wrong. Seek out the albums "Running on Empty" and "The Pretender". BTW, the band behind him is the famous LA studio guys, the Wrecking Crew, the best available -- they played for just about everybody from The Beach Boys to Linda Ronstadt and Joni Mitchell, to name just a few, back in the day. They were very expensive, but worth every penny.
Have to mention that this great album is filled with gorgeous slide guitar and fiddle work by the late, supremely talented David Lindley. RIP David. (Check out David's music with his band El Rayo X.)
it's always interesting to see these first time listens - the reviewer tries to hit the highlights - but they always miss the true significance of the artists they are highlighting - as far as Jackson - because they don't know him and his incredible career and catalogue of songs - they miss the depth of his talent - the breadth of his talent - and maybe most importantly - what Jackson has meant to his fans who have followed him since 1972 when he first appeared as a solo singer/songwriter - Jackson has been the soundtrack of my life all these many years - I can't imagine what my life would have been without this great body of music by the singer/songwriter of my generation - and as an important footnote - missing david lindley and jeff young - two long time collaborators who passed in 2023 - thank your Jackson for all the great music and the memories
Such a pleasure watching someone listen to this for the first time! When you consider the majority of his work never got air time because of the length of the songs; and yet he still sold millions and all the other accolades you mentioned, speaks volumes for his talent. No need to recommend a song...just pick one and it will move your soul.
I've been listening to Jackson Browne since 1976 and I've seen him 55 times in concert. He has help me get through two divorces and every break-up. He is the soundtrack to my life. You should listen to "Sleep's Dark And Silent Gate" on the Pretender album. My favorite song of all time. Speaks straight to my heart.
I'm definitely glad you have finally found him. His later songs are very autobiographical. He wrote an entire album ("Exiles") about his divorce. Every song on it is gut-wrenchingly real. Do check it out.
My favorite album. I remember one reviewer (can't find it) remarking that there are a lot of songs that people play at weddings but, if you wanted to play a song at a divorce, this would be a good choice.
One of the best break up songs ever. No histrionics. Just acceptance . Do Fountain of Sorrow about his relationship with Joni Mitchell. She was older than him and he got hurt. Beautiful song.
Actually Joni is the who got hurt. He left her. First time she ever had a guys leave her. Her ego couldn’t take it. Hence her making up stories of abuse which dogged his reputation for quite a while. Mitchell eventually owned up to it.
PS: This was my "breakup song" after a ten year relationship...and it ripped my heart out for years. I must have thought I wrote it myself, it was so close to what occurred.
No need to apologize for long intros. I, personally, enjoy the research you put in prior to each listen. I think its the best part. Keep up the good work.
The golden early years of a great singer songwriter!Do you know who Dan Fogelberg or Don Henley are? They are legends of their own. Check each one of them out. No contemporary male singer/songwriter has dealt so honestly and sincerely with the lyrical genius of the vulnerability of romantic idealism and the pain of adjustment from youthful dreams to adult survival as Browne. Late for the Sky, For A Dancer, Fountain of Sorrow, Father On, The Road and The Sky, and Before The Deluge are beyond beautiful. I feel his Masterpiece album is 'Late for The Sky'; you owe it to yourself to listen to it and 'The Pretender' Album. Jackson Browne became an American Songwriter Legend from those albums. Thank you for playing songs from any of his albums. And thanks for your intelligent, insightful, heartfelt commentary. Plus, all your hard work.
Listen to the next song "Fountain Of Sorrow". This whole album is a masterpiece. Listen to the whole thing. Listen to the entire "Everyman" album. His guitar player, David Lindley is a genius guitar player.
Or These Days (which he wrote when he was 16) he sold it to friend Greg Allman, who released it 1973. Jackson then recorded his version for release on For Everyman.
It's great that you are learning about great music by great musician songwriters. What is not cool and what I don't care to watch you read to us from Wikibedia.
Quite apart from the brilliance of his lyrics, and the quality of his voice, the accompaniment by (the late and sadly missed) David Lindley on this album, and on the previous "For Everyman" album are an absolute textbook lesson in how to do accompaniment.......
The whole album is stunning. Make SURE you hear "Fountain of Sorrow", "Before the Deluge", and "For a Dancer"!!
My personal favorite… Sky Blue and Black. The lyrics are amazing.

Chills…….just chills…….just sheer beauty……so much sadness…..those chords, musicianship, voice……breathtaking.

The lyrics are other worldly. This song was featured in the DeNiro movie, Taxi Driver.
Ah good man.
Never thought anyone would do this despite asking many times.
Probably my favourite album.

Jackson Brown's "For Everyman" is my favorite of his songs. It's super chill.
❤Jackson Browne, he was my first concert back in 1978 and saw him last year and still sounds great. Definitely check out more of his songs
My absolute favorite Jackson Browne song and album. ♥️✌🏼😎

All three...
In my opinion- the best American singer/ song writer of all time.
There is not a bad track in this album. It's existential California angst at its finest and the whole thing drips taste.
Glad to See you enjoying Jackson
So much in this catalogue. His first 5 albums were absolutely great.

Linda Ronstadt covered Jackson’s Browne’s song Rock Me on the Water
Thank you for doing this song I love it! First time I heard it was in the movie Taxi Driver with Robert De Niro.

Sky Blue and Black is a must. It's just ... just listen.
'Sing My Songs To Me' melts me every time. Jackson Browne - the poet of my heart.
Late for the Sky is a masterpiece and JB is a genius...still making wonderful music! My favourite album of all time!!
Dan Fogelberg sang background on this. Try his “These Days.” A masterpiece!
perfect song. perfect album.

He sings to my soul. I'm 73 and he still does.
I really think you'd like his "Sky Blue and Black." Just as powerful and beautiful.
For most of my late teens and twenties, Jackson was my favorite. I’ve seen him in concert at least three times. He’s written so many great songs - both music and lyrics. His words spoke to me. He was easy on the eyes, too. ☺️ His first six albums are all pure gold.
Jackson Browne. Lots of possibilities. Try "For a Dancer".

David and his many talents are missed..😢 He and Jackson collaborated on so many masterpieces..we are fortunate to have the memories.
Brings me waaaaaaay back! Jackson lost his young wife to suicide. Much of this album addresses his shock and grief.
His wife to suicide during the making of the Pretender is the sad fact.
You should check out For a Dancer, the last song on the album. Heartbreaking.
Such a great song, perfection.
it's always interesting to see these first time listens - the reviewer tries to hit the highlights - but they always miss the true significance of the artists they are highlighting - as far as Jackson - because they don't know him and his incredible career and catalogue of songs - they miss the depth of his talent - the breadth of his talent - and maybe most importantly - what Jackson has meant to his fans who have followed him since 1972 when he first appeared as a solo singer/songwriter - Jackson has been the soundtrack of my life all these many years - I can't imagine what my life would have been without this great body of music by the singer/songwriter of my generation - and as an important footnote - missing david lindley and jeff young - two long time collaborators who passed in 2023 - thank your Jackson for all the great music and the memories

When you consider the majority of his work never got air time because of the length of the songs; and yet he still sold millions and all the other accolades you mentioned, speaks volumes for his talent. No need to recommend a song...just pick one and it will move your soul.
PLEASE listen to The Pretender. Another outstanding track by this beautiful and soulful artist.
You shoukd hear that song "These Days" (his version). Stunning words by a 16 yr old
I've been listening to Jackson Browne since 1976 and I've seen him 55 times in concert.
I always think of the scene from Taxi Driver when I hear this.
Powerful album!
My favorite album. I remember one reviewer (can't find it) remarking that there are a lot of songs that people play at weddings but, if you wanted to play a song at a divorce, this would be a good choice.
Yes, please, more Jackson Browne
Im so glad you got to this one i am pissed i dont get the notification cant understand why

No need to apologize for long intros. I, personally, enjoy the research you put in prior to each listen. I think its the best part. Keep up the good work.

Whole album is fantastic. Had a huge impact on my life.
This song. That’s all. ❤
This is one of only a few albums that I call Masterpiece. Depending on what station in life you are on this album will affect you differently.
My cousin dated Jackson Browne in the mid eighties. I had never heard this song before tonight but I can definitely see her appeal…👍🏼👏🏼😍
You never knew what I loved in you.,I don't know what you loved in me
My favorite Jackson Browne song is Jamaica Say You Will. You must listen to it!
I believe he co-wrote “Take It Easy” which was the opening song on the “For Every Man” LP.
Also must listen to For a Dancer off the same album. Makes me weep when I hear it.
bout time!
Listen to the next song "Fountain Of Sorrow". This whole album is a masterpiece. Listen to the whole thing. Listen to the entire "Everyman" album. His guitar player, David Lindley is a genius guitar player.
Rock me on the water is a really great song you should check out
Take a listen to THE LOAD OUT/STAY
Please! More Jackson Browne. Something from the “For Everyman” album would be great. Maybe “I Thought I Was a Child.”
Or These Days (which he wrote when he was 16) he sold it to friend Greg Allman, who released it 1973. Jackson then recorded his version for release on For Everyman.
This is THE break-up song...Travis Bickle broke the TV to this song.
It's OK. You can let us see you cry. Most people cry when they hear this song.
It's great that you are learning about great music by great musician songwriters. What is not cool and what I don't care to watch you read to us from Wikibedia.
David LINDLEY ON GUITAR
Fountain Of Sorrow is the best song on the LP.
