    Ideal in conjunction with a rifle with night vision capabilities , once you spot a heat signature you can turn the Ir light and night vision scope to see in more detail what is out there ! You will save battery life on your hunt .

    As you said, it’s great for basic perimeter scanning and security, or for supplementing a more expensive setup. I use my TK to get me out in the darkness to where I’m goin with my rifle and ATN.

    Hey guys! Thanks for doing this video! I am actually a fan of the FLIR Scout TK and the Seek Thermal handheld models. They get cool tech in the hands of outdoor enthusiasts on a low budget. Thanks for posting!

      You're welcome! I like the looks of the Seek Reveal Pro line-up of handhelds and thought of getting it instead of the TK. The way you hold it and look at the display seemed it wouldn't be good for scanning. Holding a device like a Scout to your eye is more natural so when you spot something and take it away you're looking in the right direction already versus looking up.
      The TK definitely serves the purpose for people who don't want to break the bank. Good move for FLIR because there'll be enough buyers who'll really dig it and go down the rabbit hole. Their next purchase probably being a better Scout unless they want to shoot and FLIR now has the PTS233 that's cheaper than the old RS24 & 32.

    Thanks for the info. I have a couple of p8079hp night vision tubes which I have put together on a budget. I am forever trying to improve the setups and enjoy scanning the sky at night. It is great to see videos of the thermal scopes ,very interesting. Have you ever seen anyone take the diy, build it yourself approach with perhaps a bigger sensor. Size it not so much of a problem as it will be tripod mounted.Thanks again for the video.

    I think the size is and the robustness are the main plus points. For binoculars, a old rule is that the best one in your collection, is the one that you have at hand most. Also not having to worry where I point the device sounds good.

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes the size is great and the housing is durable. It doesn't feel fragile like you'd need to protect it while hiking, etc. I'd definitely recommend to someone who's planning a big group hike or climb. If you come up short doing regular head counts, you can use this to help locate someone lost or injured.

    Seeing my dog at night as far away as 30’!
    That’s almost being able to see as far as from 1/2 court to my dog standing. at he free throw line;
    Not quite the distance between the pitchers mound to home plate if that’s how far away my dog was.

      It is $599 which is overpriced for the performance IMO. However, it's catered to the type of person who doesn't own any NV or thermal and doesn't want to spend more money for better performance. It seems many of those types of users are satisfied with the cost & performance.

    Good evening, is it worth the difference in money between flir scout tk and flir scout ll 320 or flir scout lll 320?

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Scout III 320 is better than the TK but honestly it's not that much better. Then there's the batteries. The Scouts use an internal rechargeable which sucks if the battery drains in the field such as in the cold and if it has a problem you're SOL. I contacted FLIR a ways back and they said they don't replace batteries in the Scout legacy models.
      The FLIR Breach will have a better image, uses CR123 batteries, and you can also power it off of a remote rechargeable battery like an Anker. You can also get an extended battery cap from Mod Armory that will let you use 16650 rechargeable batteries. The extended battery cap and 16650 battery is the way to go.

    I have few questions, is this the 640x480 ? I think there is a few tk models im not sure, im bidding on one one ebay now, and i dont want a lower res old one. What would you suggest with 500 bucks? I really like the sionyx aroura nv camera but its 800. So im either looking at a flir one, or seek xr. I want decent distance and range, and res. Depends on the cell attached ones, if they are decent i would get one. Im thinking that 800 cam though for decent wildlife at night shots. Thanks

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 640x480 you'll see in the specs for the TK is for the display screen NOT the sensor. The sensor is a tiny 160x120. There are a few different Scout models but only one Scout TK and they only come with the 160x120 sensor. A used Scout III 640 would be over $1k (probably closer to $2k).
      To be honest with you, for $500 you won't find any decent thermals. Shopping the used market you'll need to spend in the $1k - $3k range. Go on the AR15.com equipment exchange night vision sub forum. There's a guy selling used thermals for good prices including a FLIR Scout III 240. If you're not registered, sign up, so you can contact. He's a good dude and they're worth a look prices are reasonable.

      @@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION thank you, yeah i read the specs and feel dumb now, but i would definitely buy a used 240 111, for a reasonable price(600-900). I appreciate the response and will do exactly as you said, and will let you know what i find out. Thanks again!

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is. I recently picked up one. It's much better than the TK. You can run it with an extended battery cap from Mod Armory so it can take 16650 rechargeable batteries for 3+ hours of run time or you can use a remote Anker battery versus the TK is internal battery. You can also helmet mount the Breach. It has more range when it comes to detecting and identifying than the TK and a faster refresh rate. It's also super tiny and easy to carry in a jacket pocket. The Breach gets pooped on by some but the image is good and the outdoor alert mode is outstanding. You can adjust the settings to make it perform the best for the conditions you're in.

    Question...
    I've been looking for a NVG/Thermal solution to use when I walk to the stand/blind before dawn so I dont spook deer.
    Would this be a good solution for what I'm needing? Ive read a lot of mixed reviews but I dont see why this couldn't be used just for walking into the woods to be more aware of what's around me when its pitch black and not use a flashlight.
    Thanks.

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It'll do the job for spotting large animals within 100 yards. Closer in (under 75) you should be able to identify them but further out towards 100 you may only be able to detect a shape to tell that something's there. Some of that will depend on the environment and conditions. A lot of rock in the background could mask heat signatures during warmer months. In humid conditions and especially with rain, the lower res sensor will probably be close to useless. Even higher end thermals can struggle in high humidity. Personally, I'd look for a used one. Or buy it from somewhere with a good return policy so you can take it to your stands and see how it works before deciding to keep it or not. The size is really great for what you're looking to do. It's worth a shot considering it's a lot cheaper than the next best options. Those would be the discontinued Pulsar HD19A (or similar Pulsars) and the FLIR Breach. Those Pulsars pop up on eBay and on the AR-15 forum equipment exchange from time to time. The run times aren't great on batteries but the Breach you can plug in an Anker remote battery that'll last days using it intermittently and keep 123's as backups. Another thing to watch, FLIR is releasing a new Scout line, and possibly people who have the old ones may sell them to upgrade. They use an internal battery but the Scout III's are pretty decent, especially the 640 model. These older Scouts, the III is the best one - faster with less lag.
      Good luck!

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I forgot to add, definitely go thermal. Night vision should only be used when it's totally dark. During twilight/dawn, there can be too much light which is harmful for the image tube. Also, animals blend in very well sometimes even harder to spot with night vision unless you use an infrared illuminator so you can get eye shine. Thermal is much better for finding animals.

      Depends on the surroundings if you're looking through brush, structures, open fields, etc. 20 is do-able. 40 is probably a stretch but you should be able to see it as a hot spot. The issue is the resolution so at distance you might just see them as hot spot pixels without a lot of definition to shape.

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I could see it being useful to a patrol officer. The Breach, Scout III 640, or the new Scion OTM's would be better but they're also considerably more. The TK is better than nothing. It's small and packable. The range is pretty limited but it will detect a person up to 100 yards depending on the environment. The closer the better it works, so would be very useful in a garage, attic, basement, small alley, etc. It should also be able to see a handgun size object in grass within 25 yards, maybe a little more.
      Keep in mind that thermal can't see through glass, so scanning while inside a vehicle is limited to side windows rolled down, and you can't look through glass windows into structures/vehicles. Its rechargeable battery let's it stay charged inside the cruiser (with an inverter) versus something with batteries that might have to be changed out during the shift and having to carry batteries on-body in case it goes down during use away from the vehicle. The battery lasts a long time. It should make it through a shift since it wouldn't be constantly on.

      LTO - bigger sensor, higher refresh rate, bit smaller, much nicer.

      @@janwinnicki3679 no camera function on the lto and they have no internal battery. some might see those as positives though lol.

    That was a deer not an elk.

      You're right. I watched the video again and I said buck in the vid but typed in elk in the caption. Not sure why I did that. Probably because I see more elk than deer in that area. Thanks for pointing that out.

      Got it. I'd recommend a handheld thermal. Something with good resolution and a base magnification of 2x or higher. A handheld since it can't be weapon mounted can't be misconstrued that you used it to take down game. It does help to locate downed game and verify their down and not a threat. Depends on your budget in terms of what to get. The Pulsar Helion line is probably the best bang for the buck performance wise. FLIR has the Scout III but the base mag is low and has an internal battery which sucks when it does on you in the field.

      That makes sense. I will check into those. Thank you for the advice!

      You're welcome! Ultimate Night Vision does rentals too and I believe the Helion is available to rent. Good luck!
