      My pleasure mate it was truely one of the best jobs I’ve worked, it is a huge pity GM pulled the pin. Now hsv is going to become GMSV 😂 but I don’t think they will be continuing the camaro so nothing very “special” to make anymore 😂

    • @ryanheldoorn
      @ryanheldoorn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Scotty. Appreciate the kind words. Mate they are both top cars and you can't go wrong with either. The VF's are good. I know they had issues with the 6.0L from the previous generation but the 6.2L is a solid block of good horses! Personally I love the Maloo and will take it over the SS any day as the interior is miles ahead, plus I think the Maloo is just a sexier package overall. Seriously it doesn't have a bad angle to look at it from haha. Funny thing is in retrospect, since the review, i've sold my beloved Maloo and got myself a DEFENDER 110 haha, miss that V8 now, but every time i came across a unsealed road with the Maloo, I just cringed.

    G'day Ryan. I have 2015 Maloo R8 340 LS3. Really from what I can tell, the same as your car. I can't see any difference from your 2014 model. Bought it new in Sept 2015. Mine is Sting Red colour. I've done a lot of Kms having done 108,000 over 3 years I've owned it as I live in Lara (near Geelong in Vic) but was working in Melbourne. I now work in Geelong, so doing much less KMs now. I do have the auto version (Melbourne driving is no fun with manual I assure you!)...but have found it's responsive and goes well. You can also put it into manual mode and use the change light etc like you do on the screen. It's not like the old days where autos put drag on the engine now we have electronic transmissions. I've driven both the manual and auto and while purists love the manual...response-wise there's not much difference in performance. I've had one tyre blow out but that was because something fell off a ute I was following on the freeway. Tyre was repairable for $35 so I was lucky. Visibility is as you say, terrible...but like you say, the blind spot monitor makes driving it much easier. With those humps behind the back window, you see nothing! Mine came with the guide lines on the rear view camera from new. They must have updated the software as stock on the 2015 model. Something I dislike is the stereo. I've found the voice control system to be buggy and not work properly. I tell it to call someone and the lady's voice come back telling me to talk after the beep (which I did etc). I just find the software of the stereo to be crappy. I've found however that if you quick press the phone button on the steering wheel, it uses the stereo's voice system...if you long press it...it uses the phone's voice system (Siri for me as I have an Apple phone...) which is much more reliable. Also what REALLY annoys me is the fact that the radio shuts off after 10 mins listening to it in Accessory mode (when parked and engine off). The CD player in the car is also a DVD player...which you can't use while driving of course...but when the engine is off and you're parked it plays DVD's nicely on the screen but stupid software shuts the player off every 10 mins, so it's a useless function. Also programming the GPS is slow and painful and laggy when typing in the address etc. I haven't had the radio not starting up if the phone is plugged in issue you describe. That sounds really annoying. Glad I got the version with the EDS like you've got there. I also have the paddles on the steering wheel as it's an auto. I see the Gen F 2 HSV charged $1000 for the EDS software. Ouch! Steering I also really like..re the tyres...I found that if I get the wheel alignment checked every 4 - 6 months...the tyres last a lot longer. But as you'd know they are soft grippy tyres so wont last as long as other tyres. Getting the wheel alignment checked regularly has saved me money. I don't drive it like a maniac but found I chewed through tyres...regular wheel alignments are a must my tyre bloke says...and he's right. That's terrible re your experience of servicing not getting done. I've never had it serviced at Holden. I just use a local mechanic I trust and he's looked after it well. I may do a video myself in a few weeks of my opinions on my car too. I've been meaning to do it for ages but never got around to it. Thanks for taking the time to make the video and share your thoughts. Craig - Geelong Vic

    • @ryanheldoorn
      @ryanheldoorn  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Craig Meddings appreciate your feedback and views mate. Yeah the voice control system is garbage but most cars have rubbish voice systems also. The nav is very slow but honestly I never really used it. The tires are very soft, continental 5ps are super soft and grippy and costly to boot but they work well on the car so there’s always an inherent trade off.

    One thing about this ute is the tub. It has a lid. It stops you from carrying anything higher then the tub. Unless you don't have one

    • @ryanheldoorn
      @ryanheldoorn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True but having the piece of mind of being able to lock it up was always more important to me anyway. I would very rarely carry anything taller than the tup and on the very rare occasions I would, I would generally take the lid off, but yes, can be a pain in the arse if you consistently want to do both.

    Great review Ryan. Very fair and balanced and mate your car looks and sounds great. One question I have is what difference did you notice with the over the radiator air intake and tune? Did you see much improvement in the cars low to mid range responsiveness or any improvement in the cars induction noise?
    BTW I find myself agreeing with you on the VF's quirks software wise. While the MyLink in my Redline seems to behave itself much better than yours, it does still do some weird things sometimes.The VF has been riddled with software bugs since launch and from your description it sounds like the HSV cars are no exception. I now just routinely ignore anything odd and only really think about it if it repeats itself the next journey I make. Effectively I am doing the same as you and just leaving the car for a while and see if it repeats itself next time I drive it. Mechanically my car seems fine, but yeah, the software is a bit half baked in them.
    Thanks for taking the time to record your thoughts on the car. Was great to watch.

    21:00 i did some work experience at a holden dealership workshop and oh my god some of the stuff i saw made me concerned for the people whose cars were getting serviced. There was this one car that needed a road worthy certificate and part of that requires a brake test. Which I witnessed first hand being done in a different car to the one that actually needed a brake test. reason why? because the mechanic had a bus to drive and didn't want to have to do the test the next day. So this car was given back to the owner with a roadworthy certificate except the car wasn't actually roadworthy and to top it all off, i heard that this car was being given to a teen that had just got her P plates. I hope she's ok.

I really want it fixed, I was doing under sixty but the driver side is fuckedguard suspension frontbar the mag actually broke in 3 places, hopefully that mag took most of the impact. Yeah that suck big time. I actually sold mine a few years back at exactly what I paid for it. Personally, if a car increases in value, that's awesome but I don't keep cars as investments. I want to use them and then when it's time to get something new, I just deal with the depreciation or in some instances, appreciated value then. Sorry to hear about the crash. I'm not fully up to date with how insurers do payouts and then selling vehicles back to owners who want to repair it at a cost the insurer sees as outside of the insured value. But I wish you all the best with it. They're an awesome car.

      @@TheDarquon to be honest, I think this dramatic inflation in prices is only on the back of the $1M Maloo GTS R that sold recently. I think it’s hugely inflated and in my opinion it’s not worth double the original retail value (normal Maloo). Plus there’s the issue that you ran into with trying to convince insurers to double the agreed value. They just don’t do it. I have a defender 110 adventure that’s worth $90k any day of the week but every year Shannon’s wants to depreciate it by $7-10k and up my premium, even though the market value is well above their quoted agreed value and I have to fight this ever renewal.

    • @TheDarquon
      @TheDarquon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I took my car to Holden with a warranty issue last month and they said to me get fucked because your warranty lapsed in April and that made me feel really stupid for buying it because it is making a noise like a brake or Tyre issue but they wouldn't even look at it for me because it was a lousy 1 month over being 3 years old.Then I had a problem with the tires, It said Tyre monitoring system requires service, they couldn't even look at it. they were upset with me because I got shitty with them over the servicing I claimed all they did was replace the oil I paid the extra for the mobile one. I checked the dipstick and I could clearly see that the oil was a darker color that the full synthetic. it had 2 different oils, it was clear to see it was inferior oil.they were supposed to check and replace cooling fluid and pressure test it but they couldn't have done it because my cooling fluid way low and I had to top it up. brake fluid had dust still on the cap. 2 days later car ran completely dry, temp gauge went straight up and the car stopped, they told me to fill with water and bring it in. they pressure tested it for the supposedly second time and the tank welds had cracked it would have been simple to see it if they did pressure test it. I mean if they didn't even simple things li pressure test it and give people the mobile one, after all they fucking pay for it, no one is asking for a favor or charity that is my caveat check out the service and see if there are people chewing chewy with black fingernails. also the gear doesn't always go into second gear, it will pop out when release the clutch pedal sometimes, feels like it doesn't always go into its position

      Fair enough. Not sure if you're having a dig at the quality or whatever, but I was only commenting on Andrews low light portions. I know he shoots with the a7s and since most of my filming is done in low light, i was curios as to why he dropped the shutter when his camera can handle high ISO. The quality of my video is down to 2 factors, first being I went into it knowing that my light sources would change dramatically during the drive, thus the auto iso, though i did forget to change the spot metering, and two, this 32 minute review was delivered in 1080p and then compressed down to under a gig as to upload as fast as possible.
