My 2014 sierra smells like gas. It stills runs and takes a few seconds to turn on. I live in the desert so we don't get rust in our cars. Do you think it might be a bad fuel pump or a leaky gas line? The smell is coming from the tank.

A smell of raw fuel is likely a sign of a fuel leak. Has there been any recent repairs done? Any warning lights on or other driveability concerns? Start with a visual inspection of the fuel line while running. Here where I live the fuel pumps rust out but I'm sure that's not your problem but it could be the line on top of the tank. Good luck

Following because I have the same issue on my 2013 Silverado. I can see it leaking around the tank area. No codes fired and I have an extended crank when starting up cold. Sounds like a fuel line since no codes are firing?

@@chadfoulger if you live in an area where they use salt on the roads in winter it eats the fuel pump line coming out of the tank. There's about 2 1/2" of steel tube with a 90 degree bend on the pump that rusts through. Very poor design. The plastic quick connect line will not be so quick to disconnect. Good luck

Down here after market are plastic tops. Only thing metal is the ring

Where's that and what brand. The last one I did I bought a Delphi pump because they were stainless steel and I was disappointed it was not. Plastic would also be good provided the actual pump and sender unit were quality. The Spectra pump sending units are junk in my opinion. Had multiple ones fail.

Is this a common occurrence for 2014 Silverados? I'm in 2021 driving a 2004 and I'm losing fuel somewhere

If you live in an area where calcium is used on the highways then yes.

Why not show how you got lines off

Sorry here's another video at 3.47 in video starts talking about the lines. There are service tools to release the line but they don't work due to the rust. th-cam.com/video/8pq9BkAc1hM/w-d-xo.html

Salt and moisture not good on a vehicle.. Check your grounds connections and starter next to go.

The exact thing happened to my 2013 Silverado with 93,000+ miles . After smelling raw fuel for weeks without any visible leaks it final started leaking . Yes , very poor design on GM's part . Illinois road salt didn't help either .

    Whats the part number?

13513407 but confirm that with the dealer. I would have used a Delphi pump as it is complete and stainless steel but there was no stock available. Good luck.
