I'd seen that an unintuitive way to use the suit tends to yield better results (but is admittedly less fun). It's often more DPS on average to charge the beam machine gun and then raw fire the Bruno gun. I think when most people get the Bruno gun they go for the charge attack every time because it's so fun to use. Granted you can do great damage with the gerobi, especially when you get great shots hitting multiple targets, but I think it can be a bit of a trap also. It's important to remember that you can fire the big gun without the full charge and it still does substantial damage.

Because you still have staggers after firing the green laser of doom, it's not as big of a problem as something like the Z1 support. And another great thing about the stagger is it ignores manoeuvre armour (And shock absorbers against some opponents), so personally I do prefer to charge it as much as possible to stagger 100% reliably.
But very true that when you need an uncharged shot, go for it without hesitation - you can always just charge it later!
