  • Great Central Railway - 30th December 2023
Betwixtmas at the Great Central Railway which is the timetable they are running between Christmas And New Year, so with the weather and not wanting to travel too far I headed for Loughborough. Arriving in time for the first service from Lougborough Central at 10:00 I also decided to treat myself to a Great Central Breakfast.
A suprise while I was waiting at Rothley was the appearance of 50017 as it hadn't previously been advertised.
    Running where:-
    LMS Stanier Class 8F 48305
    BR Standard 9F 92214
BR(W) Modified Hall 6990 "Witherslack Hall"
1903 North Eastern Railway Electric Autocar 3170
    50017 "Royal Oak"

This railway is gonna be something special when they bridge that gap in Loughborough.

This is a lovely film, thankyou . In the early 1950s, my mother took me from Leicester Central to East Leake every Wednesday to visit my grandparents. I remember it vividly! I still love this line and hope to survive to see the reunification project completed.

I like heritage railways as they remind me of times when people had minds of their own. People (ahem, 'customers') never fell out of slam doors (well maybe very rarely) if doors were properly shut; a station was a station and not a 'station stop'; one was not plagued with 'conductors' (what happened to guards?) reminders to retain one's 'personal possessions'(tortology) and never told to keep off the platform for 'health and safety' (as I was told at Nottingham Midland).

And persistent, repetitive on train announcements ad nauseum along with 'see it, say ,sort it'...

Yeah but we tell people to not open doors before the train has stopped and guess what they do.....

I love those GWR engines there always seems something powerful yet elegant about them. Inspiring a feeling of confidence that you’re going to get to your destination without hassle.

I really enjoy these videos. Have ALS, and cannot get back to the UK. So these fill the gap! Happy New Year. Cheers mates! 🇬🇧👍🙂🇺🇸

I must be getting old. Cornish holidays with Hoovers running to penzance, now valuable heritage traction!❤

Don't make my mouth water, lol. I loved seeing the steamies best of all. Bet you enjoyed a break from the main line wanderings. Travelling along a preserved railway behind a steam engine is better than dealing with main line strikes, any day. If I had been there, you would have had your hands full trying to keep me away from that delicious food.

I have a mainline outing this week, but next weekend is SVR steam gala that I'm looking forward to. Can't beat a fried breakfast.

Odd how The Great Central built such wide platforms , it never did get that many passenger expectations ! 🤔🧐

The plan was to allow extra lines to be added to eventuality go to Paris.

Had the Money Sunk And Lost not built this totally unnecessary line, and become the Gone Completely in the process, we would never have this wonderful preserved line.

Maybe it is obvious but is the electric autocar powered by batteries?

They are petrol/electric. Dynamo driven by a petrol engine.

How much was that fried breakfast?

    • @yorkshirewanderer6176
      @yorkshirewanderer6176  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It was free tea or coffee with your day ticket and then £8.50 for the breakfast.

@@yorkshirewanderer6176 That's a good price. I was expecting you to say it was £15.
