Firelighting on the RH&DR

Hello everyone, This is a video showing what a firelighter's morning typically looks like on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway.
Part 1 is footage that I captured on the 2nd of December and part 2 is from the 9th of December which includes a POV of a Romney firelighter.
These were filmed during the railway's Santa Specials hence why I am wearing a Christmas jumper and the engines are all decorated in tinsel and flashing lights.
I hope you enjoy this video and I apologise for the edit looking a bit rough in places, I am still learning the software.

Hi there I see there is a new locomotive shed what is happing to the old one?
Are the locomotives air brakes?

The original shed was getting unsafe so was knocked down. Currently locos are stored in the various other sheds at New Romney while work on the newer loco shed extension is done.
The loco are vacuum brakes but looks like they use an air powered blower to assist steam raising like in smaller scale live steam.

We are revamping the shed behind the original shed to make it fit for purpose.
Also the locos are vacuum braked

I take it the last driver on it doesn't dispose of it fully ?

Nope the previous days driver deals with the front end of the loco so sweeping the smokebox and tubing the loco and a general cleaning down the loco and running gear.

For steam boilers, allowing them to cool slowly is a good thing. So leaving the remains of the last fire on the grate will assist with this.

Yes, we call it beach it helps prevents clinker sticking to the firebars
