The Looe Valley Line - 10th June 2024
A visit to Cornwall and a trip along the Looe Valley Line.
Coombe Junction is also one of my 50 Things to See & Do Great British Railways: 13.2 Spot the Smallest station - Coombe Junction Halt.
Including Liskeard which is where the branch line meets the main line and Looe itself there are 6 stations that I visited.
00:00 Liskeard
03:10 Coombe Junction Halt
07:34 St Keyne Wishing Well Halt
09:59 Causeland
12:35 Sandplace
15:02 Looe
The Looe Valley Line is not only a practical rail route but also a delightful journey through Cornwall's beautiful landscapes. Enjoy the ride!

The train drivers want £70,000 a year ! If you had to that job for one day you would too . . .
Yes
It's good the railway is still in use somewhat.
@@kellyashfordtrains2642 It is and is busy in summer. The council and GWR should work together more to promote the railways for tourism.
Back in June I travelled to Cornwall where I was lucky to have the time to explore the Looe Valley Line. Enjoy!
Grew up alongside the Greemford Branch line during the 70s on Hathaway Gardens. That was before we had a new Ealing station and the long tunnel with the housing estate by Castlebat Halt did not exist. That section of line was open to the sky and just wild natural embankments. It reminded me of the Railway Children as we stood on the embankments watching the DMUs go by. I much preferred how it looked then to now. :(
It's a pity most of the listed stations are closed. This possibly means you'll have to scrap some of your mission altogether. At least you've got an alternative with riding along a heritage railway, if you need to relax a bit more.
It's only the ticket office element at the stations that's closed at the moment except for 1 Kentish Town thats fully closed, but I still visit there in a video I have coming up. This means I have now visited all 272 in the last year.
@@yorkshirewanderer6176 I was born and bred on the Bakerloo Line. Initially, my nearest station was Neasden on the Stanmore Branch, and then we moved to North Wembley and that's the one I can really remember. Most of my train spotting trips started from there, as did trips into town and visits to my grandparents. I went to school near South Kenton and, after school, a group of us would go train spotting on the footbridge. Footbridge? What footbridge?? I hear you say! Well, you may not know this but, before the present subway with steps up to the platform was built, there was footbridge across the lines with steps down to the platform. It was demolished and replaced by the subway in the late 1960s when the first part of the WCML was electrified. I keep meaning to make a nostalgic return to both stations before I'm too old!
hola
An evening at Crewe earlier this week where I spent a few hours avoiding the rain.
I was the Driver on that lol! Funny how its been recommended!
For so few stations that's a really random way to take them in! You should at least show the routemap with the correct order of stations.
This passes where I live in Leicestershire. Can see the rail line from my flat window.
Hay uno que les sobre mandénlos a El salvador se necesita es urgente
It's good to have fun on a preserved railway. The school holidays are upon us and you ought to have at least two weeks' worth of preserved railway fun. The number of visitors will be somewhat low, due to most families going away on holiday to a seaside resort or wherever they choose. Imagine yourself lazing on the beach, no work, no fuss and delay, just you, the sand, sea and sunshine. Next minute, the shrill whistle of Lydham Manor rudely disturbs your slumber. What could be better than that?
In previous years there have been fairground rides and stalls at Rothley, and animals on display at different stations such as owls that I've taken my daughter to see. Used to get lots of grandparents taking grand children as well that weren't there in numbers as I've seen previously.
Looks like you visited some of the quietest stations that still see use by main line trains. It's a pity there's not much to do. However, perhaps within your 50 things to see and do mission, you might like to visit Her Majesty's Theatre. Andrew Lloyd Webber's most scary musical story is staged there: The Phantom of the Opera. I've seen the musical for real, and it's deliciously scary. If it's not listed in the book, it won't matter. I highly recommend a visit to the theatre to watch the musical story.
I've seen Phantom several times and heading to London in October to see Six before a day at Hampton Court. I do attend the local theater a couple of time each year as well for various productions including hopefully next years Murder on the Orient Express.
South Greenford is in the top 10 least visited stations in London, the others probably aren't far behind, yet that little line forms an useful connection between the GWR line out west from Paddington and line running out of Marylebone to Buckinghamshire and beyond
I can see you're getting somewhere. However, it helps a lot if you have a main line railway timetable handy. That way you hopefully won't get stuck somewhere, meaning having to wait a few hours for the train you want to take you further. I hope no other disruptions and cancellations are thrown at you unexpectedly. Then again, if that happens there's always Plan B: a ride behind a steamy on a heritage railway.
I have about another 5 videos to edit and release at the moment as I've been out and about quite a bit recently. I've also some time off work coming up, so hope to get a few more in before a number of gala's in September/October.
Seems a pretty round about way to go from St Pancreas to Liverpool St
Obnoxious accent
Absolutely love the EMR livery
It's good to have a Plan B as backup. The Jubilee Line was a good choice. No disruption to services there. I've gone with a Plan B a few times, and it's come off better than Plan A. It's a shame no items of interest could be ticked off, then again, the Jubilee Line is different to some parts of the London Underground.
@kellyashfordtrains2642 I'm in London this weekend and checked for planned service disruption, but as I only have the Bakerloo north towards Watford and a few stragglers as I've not plan B this time.
@@yorkshirewanderer6176 Save it for the Autumn, you'll have better luck after the summer holidays have gone by. Take a break and do something different without the hassle of train service disruptions. Have a break, have a KitKat.
@kellyashfordtrains2642 Nah in London for work and doing this around my trip. That way most of the cost is covered on expenses.

You should have stayed with your family. Family comes first above everything else. It's good to get away from the trainspotting hobby for a while, believe me. Families stay together. Not all the time, but I'm sure your wife and daughter would have liked it a bit more if you had gone with them.
@kellyashfordtrains2642 Not in this case as they had got tickets for an event in Leicester they were going to together and had be planned for months. I was just tagging a long using the advantage of the family railcard.

It seems every time you try to get nearer to the end of this mission of yours, delays of some sort are constantly standing in you way and blocking your path forward. I think you need to take time out for a while, and grab a relaxing holiday somewhere. It will help clear your head and throw frustrations away. I know you are determined to finish what you started, but believe me, at the moment you are getting nowhere fast. Take a break from it till September at least. August is the busy Summer Holiday period, children will have broken up from school. Have you not heard of playing trains the model railway way? Playing with model trains is one of the most relaxing things you can do, when real railway delays prevent you going further with your mission. It's a great way to recharge batteries.
You'd be suprised I'm quite a way through now. A weeks time I'm back in London and I'll be clearing the remaining stations I've not visited yet.Doing this I actually find relaxing as it means I'm not at home. I do have a model railway and looking at starting to build a new layout soon especially as it approaches the end of the year and the weather turns.
@@yorkshirewanderer6176 Please let me see your model railway before you start anew. Building a new layout is very time consuming. I think it's better if you keep the one you have now the way it is. Let's just hope there are no further delays, or you will never finish what you began before the Summer Holidays. Believe me, come August, the trains will be packed with rush hour in full swing. You'd be better off taking a break till September, when the stations will be quieter. Happy holidays.
Nice one! So is Bulwell your local train station?
@@vastjonea It's my local train station, but I do have a closer tram stop.
@@yorkshirewanderer6176 ahh ok. I usually film by Bulwell Forest as that’s my local tram stop, and for the crossing, although I don’t live in Bulwell

Another brilliant gala on this railway Really enjoyed my day. At the beginning you were stood beside me as the freight went out
KWVR always does well to say it's one of the shorter lines. I always look for myself in other peoples videos, but rarely catch a glimps.
@@yorkshirewanderer6176 Same here. I have seen myself a few times. I remember you coming to the fence and doing the bit of commentary but don't think I got you on any video I looked on my out take from there and only took the 69 starting up again
I hope you're not badly hurt after getting hit by tree branches. That's what you need to be aware of at all times. I'm also hoping you didn't get told off by a volunteer. Glad you had a ride in the sunshine, in any case.
No I was fine as it was more the inital shock as the branch appeared right up to the window.
That's why you should always look out for obstacles like a tree branch, and then duck your head in, so you don't get hit. Glad you enjoyed yourself.
I was stood next to the window and just holding on to my gimble when it caught me. If I was right out the window it would have really caught me. No damage done though.
What's not to love about God's Wonderful Railway?
3:42 Thats me
Hope you enjoyed the diesel gala
@yorkshirewanderer6176 I did thanks it was awesome went 15th and 16th June also I'm at 27:32
@Cazkumali I watch other people's videos from events live been to, but think only once have I ever managed to spot myself. I did the same 2 days and had a great time.
@yorkshirewanderer6176 Yeah I hope they do an autumn one in the future I'd travel on the steam gala but you can't use 12 month passes on that
Cornish Main Line should still have the HST. The IET is way too smooth, not good. In any case glad you saw three HSTs, there should have been more to watch. The HST should scream upon departure. We'll all be glad when we hear the sound.
thoroughly enjoyed that thanks atb
Glad to hear it
Great video.
Thanks!
Beautiful railway, beautiful loco, beautiful sounds! What more could you need
it reminds me of retford lol
Good video
And I also miss the old announcements
I miss the old central line motors
I would love to ride this GWR train to Cardiff Central from Paddington Station.
