Legend says that Mad Max movies take place in present day Australia, it's about people who got lost in the wild outback.

People kept saying they dubbed the voices for the U.S. version but I saw it with the Australian voices and hadn’t heard of the dubbing until recently.

The original series of Mad Max is among my absolute favorite movie series. Growing up in the US a lot of people I knew were not aware of this series and I couldn't understand how. Max is such a complex character! The perfect idea of the anti-hero before it was really defined.

Hey guys, speaking of Mel Gibson, I'd love to see y'all maybe review _Lethal Weapon 1_ and _2_ in the near-future, those movies are awesome, I love them for the energetic Riggs/Murtaugh chemistry and the batsh*t insane action. ;D

A great review guys on one of my favourite films. Mad Max wasn’t Mel’s first film - he did one called Summer City (surfers in Sydney) also with Steve Bisley (went to film school together). He may have also done Tim as well (or it could have be straight after). Also not surprising about the Saw thing - James Wan and Leigh Whannell (writers of Saw) are Australian and would have grown up watching these films. Leigh Whannell worked as a film critic for a show called Recovery before getting into film making.

I love that Mad Max has become a trope for any film set in a post-apocalyptic world full of bikers in weird leather gear.

Sound was done in the kitchen. Cutting of the film was done in the lounge room or the other way around. Mad Max films are always a stand alone. A reinvention of it self. As it should be.

Great review. One thing I will say is that Max doesn't get the same type of car as the Nightrider. His was a Holden Monaro. Max drives a Ford XB GT coupe.

Great review guys, only one thing....Max's car isn't the same one that the Nightrider had. Max's car was built from spare parts, plus the Nightrider's car blew up in the crash. On top of that, the blowers on the 2 cars are completely different. Thanks for pointing out that Goose was the lead until killed, he had always been my favorite.

I agree that all 3 Mad Max films are a progression of the disintegration of society. In the first, law and order are breaking down, there is no more justice. Resources are running out, and that leads to nuclear war, and then finally a new 'society' emerges in the third, out of the ashes, which is really awful, but stable (sort of).

that's not entirely fair to say he's completely lost it and doesn't go anything good anymore, he made Apocalypto which is probably one of the greatest action movies ever made. And his current output is as good as Liam Neesons. :D both of whom still sell less DVDs for me than Bruce Willis's recent films, and those movies get negative scores. It's sad.

Brilliant review guys. I love Mad Max. But I do have a little something to add about the biker gang. When Max gets revenge it seems that most of the gang have disappeared? What do you think? He only gets to kill about half of them. Where did the other bikers go? Could their scenes have been cut? Also, I heard rumours many years ago about the rest of the cops getting slaughtered by thre biker gang (which may have been fantasy). I would truly love it if George Miller mad this original again but filled those gaps. Please review Mad Max 2. I am a Thunderdome hater. It doesn't exist in the series as far as I am concerned. I though it did not feel the same as the others. I thought it was more of a Hollywood hopeful blockbuster and designed to be more accessible to a younger audience. BUT... Mad Max is an adult horror road movie. Tina Turner reminds me of Grace Jones in Conan the Destroyer. Very bad casting. I especially hate the theatrics of the desert children. I vaguely recall that George Miller didn't direct Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome due to his friend Kennedy being killed in a helicopter crash whilst searching for an ideal location to film it. I seem to remember that he only filmed the action sequences. I am grateful to George Miller to bring back the Mad Max universe in Fury Road. I hope he does more. I reckon Mel Gibson could come back as Mad Max in a story that leads on from Thunderdome. If this were to happen I might watching it again.

It isn't really an apocalypse. The world is running out of oil and the system is collapsing. That is why each subsequent film portrays world that devolves more from the last.

I was fortunate to hear Mad Max in the Aussie version rather than in Yank the first time. Years later, I was watching the Yank dub and it was hilariously bad. God old Mel - a decent actor but a real asshole. The scene where The Night Rider has a mental breakdown was amazing - and then we see Max! Brilliant opening. I enjoyed this review - keep up the good work.

I feel like its implied in either the first or second movie that the collapse of society is an Australian specific problem? you never really hear about the rest of the world-and Im not sure how that would apply to Thunderdome and Fury road since by that time its so far into the post apocalyptic stuff. I had actually never seen these movies before and decided to watch them because Fury ropad had just come out and everyone was raving about it. Personally-while this movie is impressive given the time and budget and limited technology-I still think its the weakest of the Mad Max movies and I find the middle of the movie tends to be a bit boring. Fury road is probably genuinely the best ( even if you cant understand what max is saying half the time) And Mel Gibsons careere took a nose dive not necessarily because of bad movie choices but because there were a few incidents where he got reaaaaaal drunk and said some anti semetic shit
