If you are curious the lick starts out on the 2nd chord of the bridge and moves through a series of Maj7th chords: Dbmaj7 Dmaj7 Bmaj7 Cmaj7 Amaj7 Bb7 Gmaj7 You can hear the chord change each time he moves the pattern up I guess? Great video Ben!! Nice nice!
Holy shit. I like How I know both your TH-cam channels and you two know each other. I think I'm on the right track on who I should take advice from on TH-cam
Allan dies. Ben Eller creates a brilliant tribute showcasing Allan's unique style of playing in a lick and talks about his pioneering of the instrument. Exactly how it's supposed to happen. Brilliant video and RIP Allan Holdsworth.
Can't "thumbs-up" this enough. Holdsworth needs to be recognized. I was fortunate to meet him briefly at the Carvin factory. Nicest guy. Very humble despite his tremendous accomplishments. He created emotions all his own with his music. Other-worldly nostalgia, if you will. I like to think that he just went back to his home galaxy and planet. Gonna miss you, Allan.
Thanks, Ben. Holdsworth has always been the ne plus ultra of guitar playing for me, and I've been emotionally devouring his catalog since hearing of his passing on Sunday. I only wish I could have seen him play live
I have to say that you show a ton of class when you give respect to other players, especially those who have passed. You do a honorable job of it as well as do your best to showcase their ability. Well done and thank you
thanks for this lick breakdown ben. holdsworth was such an iconic player..even if you weren't a fan you've more than likely been indirectly influenced by his style through other great players
Hey Ben, watched a few of your "you suck at guitar" videos, and have to say, they go over some of the finer key details that have helped my playing improve a lot. Was wondering if you could do a video on rhythmic displacement? Seems I really like hitting the second phrase on the beat, rather than the off beat.
I didn't use this lick because I didn't see or look for tabs or music notes for any of the licks in Allan's version of this song at the time I was practicing this as a personal song choice for an audition video I did, but it would have been cool if I used this lick but this video was not even uploaded at the time hahaha. Anyways you can check out me covering Inner Urge in an audition video I made.
Great video man, Iove that you’re working with Andy wood right now! Is this a free profile on rig exchange? Can you give me some EQ tips that i can use to get close to Holdsworths lead tone with other profiles?
I found this profile on RM and it sounds nothing like the great tone your getting. I can tell the audio in this is in the room so I'm sure it;s even better in person. How did you tweak it?
Marvin Seegers thanks! Got it for free on the rig exchange! Holdsworth Nights 2 or something like that. You HAVE to turn the reverb mix down, though, it's at 100% when you get it!

Great video Ben!! Nice nice!
Jens Larsen I knew I could count on you for that! Thanks Jens :)
Haha! Thanks! Glad to be of service with my very narrow jazz guitar skill set 😀👍

We humble TH-cam guitarists must stick together! I'll join the club soon enough, too.
I JUST came over here from Jens' video on Holdsworth 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nice tribute Ben, well said.
Patrick Mameli from Pestilence is an outspoken worshipper of Holdsworth

Ah cloud good times great tune
Exivious is so sick. Nice to give them a shoutout basically.

Metal Fatigue has a killa lick near bar 3 of the solo? If you ever have the time. Thx for the rad channel!
I knew you would mention Exivious!

Great video once again, RIP Allen. Can I ask what was the band playing at the beginning of the video??
Hey Ben, where did you get your Kemper profile for this lick? It sounds great!
Marvin Seegers thanks! Got it for free on the rig exchange! Holdsworth Nights 2 or something like that. You HAVE to turn the reverb mix down, though, it's at 100% when you get it!
I, like most metal fans discovered Allan through Fredrik Thordendal's leads. Absolutely inspiring player and a real great loss to music.
B Thomas same here!!!
Per from Scar Symmetry has very similar legato.
Please do a 'your legato (hammer ons/pull offs) sucks!
RIP Allan Holdsworth
Please do a necrophagist lesson or two
RIP \m/
Meshuggah would not be Meshuggah without the Holdsworth lead style. RIP

I deeply worried for Allan...
Sombre.
