Great video man! My 16 CVO Street Glide got the overheat red light and check engine light this last weekend while riding the dragon and the surrounding area in Tennessee and North Carolina. Second day and had to cut the trip short. I have the Harley ESP so I will take it and see if they will put the upgraded pump on if I pay for it. If not I, like you, I'm mechanically inclined to can do all this stuff myself. But it is BS for what we pay for these machines. Thanks again
I got lucky when I bought my used 15 Ultra Limited while under warranty the old one failed not long after I bought the bike and it was covered and no problems yet..finally HD did something right for once.
So, I am just now having issues with my 15 cvo s.g. I have 3 codes, engine light goes off & on briefly, and repeats constantly. Cooling light came on. Changed coolant relay & fuse. Now coolant light stays off. But codes still come up. 0691-Fan cooling relay output low/open. 1691 & 1693. Cooling fan left & right low/open. I am lost on what to do next. Would this possibly be because my water pump is bad?? When I do the throttle test with bike off, no fans or pump comes on. Any suggestions or help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Howdy. If you have not done the water pump upgrade that is the first thing I would do. The water pump becomes an on-demand pump rather than a constant pump. I haven't heard any issues with the coolant temperature sensor so I doubt that's the problem but I would definitely start with the pump upgrade. Let me know how you make out. Good luck
Okay. So I got the water pump & put it on. I had trouble putting the cover back on so I just drilled a couple holes & zip tied to the grommets. I did the manual bleed. But when I rode it today about 5 miles, I noticed liquid by my bike when I got on it to leave. So I checked the fluid and the little plastic resovior was empty. Why? Because when I bled it, it was full and there no bubbles. So I am lost. Any suggestions?
I own two HDs that have HD's famous cam chain tensioner design flaw that can cause plastic pads in the cam chest to break down which can cause engine failure at 20K miles. A prime example of HD not standing by their product and passing the problem to the customer who paid top dollar for their product. HD has lost all of my business. I do not trust a company that does not stand by their design misses. Good luck and enjoy the ride.
Did this water pump upgrade do the trick? I have a 2014 ultra limited as well and have had nothing but trouble with the coolant system since the day i bought it! I have gone through the recalls for the neck filler, cap, hoses, etc for the constant coolant boil over issues and coolant loss, and still have the issue of coolant loss and boil overs. Bled and purged numerous times to release any air in the system. Doesnt boil over as many times as before but still an issue occasionally and still seem to lose coolant even when there is no boil over Now on a recent trip to Smoky Mnts in November the doggone temp light wanted to keep coming on even though it was still full of coolant at the time and was about 55 degrees outside temp while riding..lol.. So I have been trying to research this water pump upgrade but not too many people have info or reviews on it. I am looking at ordering one this week in hopes that it will solve the temp light issue, and hopefully maybe that could be part of the issue the 14's had with the boil over and loss of coolant too...fingers crossed!! Well Mick, how is the new set up working for you? I'm going tomorrow (2-9-19) and pick up the kit for my 2016 ultra limited. I bought an infrared thermometer and one of my riding buddies an myself rode just to do a test to see the difference in the engine temperature. He was on his air cooled 2013 ultra classic. After a few miles we would stop and I would check the temp of both engines in several places. Even without coolant my engine temperature was usually 12 to 15 degrees cooler. I don't want to dish out $377, but I don't want my check engine light and Temperature light on, especially when I try to sell it.

I have a 2014 flhtk. so far I've replaced 3 coolant temp sensors, 1 thermostat, and last year while riding cross country, the coolant pump kicked out on me in Mississippi. $667 later i was back on road. Harley did reimburse me the $, BUT i dont need this B.S. happening again. did you video the installation?
Fixing to tackle this. The instructions say to use a cooling system refiller to remove air. Did you use one and if not, how did you bleed the system? Thanks
Do you think if it were a repair it would be covered by the extended warranty? Or should I just pay for it. I can do it myself, just would like to save the 3 and change. Great video
@Charles Mckinney Yes, engine light did come on. Harley covered the repair as it was under "extended" warranty. Otherwise the bill was going to be $850.00. Crazy !
Hank Hamelin have you had anymore issues since you did the upgrade? I’ve had my temp light come on a couple times. Harley put a temp sensor in it and it just happened yesterday again. I took it back and they told me they couldn’t find anything. I asked them to do the water pump upgrade and they did. I don’t have extended warranty but I didn’t mind paying if it takes care of the problem. Hopefully you’ve had good luck since you got yours done!

Unfortunately I did not record the installation. It was very simple and straightforward.
I have doubts where they are going the 2 rubber washer.

I didn't bleed the system at all. I filled the system and ran the engine at 1500 rpm while topping it off as needed.
Do you think if it were a repair it would be covered by the extended warranty? Or should I just pay for it. I can do it myself, just would like to save the 3 and change. Great video

Definitely covered. Just had mine done out in S Dakota. Total bill, $842.00. Cost to me fifty bucks. Nice !
