Some food for thought: I have a 2018 M8 heritage. Using an FP3 to monitor engine temps I found that using soft lowers on the crash bar increased temperatures by 40 degrees on a 60 degree day! The fork fangs raised temps 15 degrees. And very surprisingly, purring my feet up in the crash bar also increased temps by 10 degrees. Also, 20 mph cross wind dropped temps by 10-15 degrees. This shows how much a little change in air flow affects these air cooled engines. (Btw engine ran at 235 with no wind blocking items).
Great to hear you are doing a lot of the same experiments/exploration that we have done and getting similar results. Really good info, thanks for the comment. 👍😎👍 Engine at 235 F is really good, we have not been able to achieve that on a stock M8 Softail on a warm day at interstate speeds. One of the most effective things HD did on the M8 Softails is the larger oil cooler. Here is our test of it- th-cam.com/video/h7EdjR8l8Ag/w-d-xo.html
i've owned harley's with shovels to M8's, and the 2017 M8 twin cool has been by far the coolest running from the rider seat than the rest. not to say that the oil temp doesn't run hotter. but ive never noticed burnt smelling oil or any visual issues from inside during motor upgrades. i do run dual breathers. one at the motor intake and one at the oil pan/tranny. that helped reduce oil level in crank from 4-5 oz. to 2 oz. oil pressure with S&S pump cold is 50+, at operating temp. holds steady at 40 even running highway for 12+ hours cross country. i do know that motor oil has proved to make significant differences and i'm extremely happy with one certain brand. but i'm not gonna start a oil war here so i won't mention it. but, it isn't amsoil. Lol but i will be diving in to this deeper in the future. i'm working on turning my RGU into the most reliable, longest lasting bike i've had. not the most powerful. thanks for all the info. i may be talking with you in the future concerning cooler upgrade.
Yes, HD made a big improvement on the M8's of shielding the rider and passenger from engine heat. Sounds like you have your ride set up well...and yeah, oil is pretty dadgum important. Here's a fun video we did on The Great Oil Debate- th-cam.com/video/bNHgNThrqQo/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the comment and good to hear you are enjoying the videos.
Make a crash bar cooler.. I did it and it was common back in the 50s and 60s... Put a oil filter adapter in and run it into a fitting you install on the bottom of the crash bar. Then on the other end of the crash bar install a fitting taking oil back to the filter adapter.. I made my 88ci Deuce into a 124" hottie and never had oil over about 220f on the hottest days.
Yes, that is something that more then a few people have done. I seriously considered doing that back in 2005 on my Road King. I chose not to for the following reasons. -Did not want to get burned or other folks get burned if touching the crash bar. -Could not find any data that showed if they cooled better or worse than a traditional oil cooler -The cost of pulling the bar, pressure testing it to make sure there were no leaks at any of the weld joints, thoroughly cleaning the inside of the tubing, drilling and tapping the inlet and outlet ports....This would cost more in time and money than a traditional oil cooler - If you lay the bike over and break the oil cooler you would be stranded. It is not protected being attached to the crash bar. Even so, I almost did it...just to test it out and have something different. In the end, I did not want to take the time to do it.👍😎👍
In my humble opinion you guys are spot on. Run an oil filter relocation kit with an oil cooler. Route the oil lines so the hot oil from the engine goes through the oil filter first then through the oil cooler. Run a mesh cleanable oil filter and also install a cylinder head cooling fan like a Jim’s force flow. Replace the dip stick with a digital dip stick so oil temps can be monitored. Just my two cents.
Thank you for the good words, and we appreciate our business. Glad you are liking the parts. Very good point on running the oil thru the filter, and then the cooler. Less parasitic loss equals less heat and more power. 👍😎👍
After riding Harleys for 50+ years I solved All the overheating issues...I bought a Honda Valkyrie. Runs 180-190 degrees all day long. .... In Arizona.
Glad that you found a bike that makes you happy! Some of us do prefer the sound, looks and feel of a Harley, but to each his own! Thanks for commenting! 😎MB
I had a short discussion with my dad regarding thermal heat exchange properties (he is an engineer). 1st: Air is a bad conductor of heat. Oil or Water is a medium and can be efficiently used to exchange heat transfer. 2nd: Heat exchange is directly related to the surface area. E.g. Car head do not have any fins. The heat is transferred via water to an external large radiator and it works perfectly fine. When it's stationery the air blower is throwing hot air onto the engine heads. Yet it works perfectly fine because we have taken the heat from the engine, expanded it to a larger surface and lowered the temp. Laws of physics - Hot air will fine ways to rise and escape, can't stop it. It will eventually be replaced by cooler air. So essentially to cool the H-D motors down we need to approach it with these primary 2 factors in mind.
While I don’t have any official numbers I will say during the summer in 80 degree weather my 2018 ultra limited ran extremely hot. So much so that I would have to stop and let it cool down a bit just because it was so uncomfortable. I installed your oil cooler and filter relocation kit a few weeks ago so I am pretty excited to see how it feels this summer.
I believe you will be well pleased with the reduction in oil temps with you installation. 👍 Thank you for your business, we appreciate it. If, during the summer, you are still getting more heat than you are comfortable with, take a look at this video for low and no cost ways to cool down the engine. th-cam.com/video/o3T3yA9BKwE/w-d-xo.html Also, if you still have a cat in your headers, removing that will reduce radiated heat from the exhaust.
i have a 2015 ultra limited. took it out this past weekend in 100 degree and road it at around 70 mph for 20 to 30 minutes on highway and the hottest i saw it get was 230 engine temp.
Sounds like your bike is running at a good temp. The engine temps you want are 230* F everyday warm weather riding, with no more than 240* F in extreme circumstances. Just got back from a 7000 mile trip on a 21 Road Glide Limited with 98 degree days. Installed the temperature dipstick and noticed oil temps consistently 270. Was very surprised the twin cooling system couldn’t keep up. Lots of clutch on the down hill to cool it down.

I don’t have a water cooled Harley, but it looks like a hell of a lot of engineering to water cool the heads on the M8, when there’s so much space for a decent sized oil cooler with fans. Harley logic is sometimes hard to follow!
Yes, and if they were cooling the entire heads on them it would be better...as it is, it is just one water jacket going around the exhaust valves. Going even further, how great would it be if there were some water jackets in the cylinders!
Really is mind blowing when you consider that the HD engineers didn’t see a problem with 300deg oil temps! Absolutely unacceptable IMO. HD needs to hire you boys as consultants
Has anyone thought of separating the radiators? Make one cool the heads, and make the other cool the oil? Both doing the same job, removing heat from the motor. Just a thought.
I have, and discussed it with some engineers. On the Twin Cooled bikes, up until the Gen II M8's, the radiators are too small to have much efficacy running solo for either the coolant or oil. We are still testing temps on the Gen II M8's....they have a MUCH larger radiator. Here's a video on some of the differences between a Gen I and Gen II M8 that you may find interesting/useful. th-cam.com/video/HZLy_lH9cz0/w-d-xo.html KP
Amazing difference's , my 2018 FLTRU M8 Dual cool seems to run a lot cooler than my 103, 2013 Road King did. (according to my wife riding the pilon) I run syn 3 in all holes and we can get over 100 degrees in summer...must admit I don't ride much in those days, but took it across the prairies in Canada in 2019, 800 miles/day with no issues, outside temperature was about 80 degrees each day. Maybe I'll buy a temp dipstick just to see. Didn't realize temps were that high.
Yes, HD made big strides in reducing the amount of felt heat on the M8's. Unfortunately the heat is still the same in the engine...too high. The difference is that the heat does not radiate out as much as it did on the Twin Cam's, even the Twin-Cooled Twin Cam's. Look at this video to see what HD does when the temps get up on the M8's- th-cam.com/video/5PxJ8PvcVtc/w-d-xo.html
I'm mixed up. I miss my Twin Cam 103 Street Glide but I love my twin cooled M-8 Tri-Glide. I had Love Jugs on both and when I use them, the motor stays cool.
Yes, HD has done a good job on the M8's to reduce the amount of heat radiating out to the rider and the passenger. Unfortunately the engine is still just as hot and that results in accelerated wear and gradual reduction in power. You may find this Written Report useful/interesting- www.dkcustomproducts.com/why-how-to-cool-down-the-twin-cam-engine-part-i-dk-cl-tc-dn-1.htm
I'm a big fan of Love Jugs engine fans. My wife says they look like Mickey Mouse ears on the engine but I don't mind the look when they are keeping my cylinder head temps down and thus the oil temps down. I also run an upgraded oil pump and cam plate from S&S. Remember, what you are actually measuring with oil temperature is how hot your heads are getting. If you keep air flowing across the cooling fins then the oil temp never gets high in stop and go traffic. Also, the higher volume oil pump and cam plate definitely keeps the oil pressure higher at idle on a hot engine, so even hotter, thinner oil is keeping the bearings protected and the piston oilers doing their jobs. I think if I ever find the need for more cooling I would go with a upgraded oil cooler that has a fan built into it but so far haven't needed it.
i have used an oil temperature gauge for 20 years on my twin cams and m8's. The twin cams & the M8's were water cooled. The difference was not lower oil temps. They remained about the same. The biggest difference is no predetonation at high ambient temps (85F+)and high altitudes (5000'+). Zero. Before that, the combination of high altitudes and temps usually brought on pinging.
I agree with you ….mostly. Part of the twin coolings feature’s is that when stopping In high temperatures the ecm makes changes to the air/fuel mixture to compliment the cooler exhaust valves enhancing the acceleration leaving from the stopped position eliminating sputtering and coughing that some if not all the air cooled bikes experience however I would have to lean towards having an oil cooler being a benefit rather than a waste of money. I have a 2015 fltruse that I did install the remote oil filter kit from DK however I don’t monitor my oil temperature. I know it’s hot but not too hot and I don’t want to stress myself out it by reading a temp monitor. That being said they’re correct about what the twin cooled bikes are actually cooling, just the exhaust valves which it does well along with the ecm correction at idle but that seems to me there’s a lot of plumbing for the purpose intended.
The Twinkies used an ION Sensing to help eliminate the pinging. The M8's use actual, automotive style, knock retard sensors, mounted on each cylinder. For an M8 to ping, something is seriously awry, whether oil cooled or Twin-Cooled. Technically there are no water cooled Twin Cam's or M8's. Look at this video to see what HD does to eliminate the knock/ping/pre-det on the M8's- th-cam.com/video/5PxJ8PvcVtc/w-d-xo.html

Just simply solve what Harley couldn’t do: Ad an oilcooler to your Twin-cooled HD yourself ☝🏻, I mounted a DK Oilrelocation Kit and a JAGG Oilcooler to my FLHTK and with Redline 60w20 my Engine couldn’t be more pleased. Steady temperatures around 230F. and my S&S Oilpump kit sees that the pressure is 40-50psi. with that oil temperature. ✊🏻☠️
Great information, I’ll be installing one of your relocation kits on my 2021 Ultra Limited CVO. I’m also thinking about installing the Mighty Mites cooling fans.
I discovered the water pump when I was checkingnit out for an oil cooling system. It sucks that they let bikes out there that burn the Hell of the oil.
Here are my temps.from 3 91 degree days.Front head temp.219 front cylinder 227 rear head 239 rear cylinder 244 oil temp.190.Day two front head 229 front cylinder 226 rear head 248 rear cylinder 244 oil temp.190 Day three front head 222 front cylinder 225 rear head 236 rear cylinder 225 oil 191.I use a laser thermometer like you guys use.I am going to put a oil cooler on my trike tomorrow to see if that makes any difference. The only thing i have done so far is put one of your lift kits on it and now waiting for the relocation oil filter kit to come in which will be tomorrow. My trike is a 2017 tri-glide which is twin cooled. The fans don't kick on unless i am sitting in traffic for a bit but other then that i haven't noticed them coming on.Oh and I made a special bracket for a after market oil cooler that fits between the down tubes on the frame. It ended up looking like it came from the factory that way.
Nice. It's good to hear you're getting your TG dialed in. We appreciate your business, and I believe you are going to be well pleased with the results. 👍😎👍
My oil temps are around 215 on a 85* day but engine temperature on the power vision is at least 230 or more. This is cruising at 65 -70 2015 road king with 10.2:1 compression. I’ve found using engine oil that is not to be used in the clutch runs cooler

In 2009 I bought my Heritage was running cin3 Harley-Davidson motor oil every time I stopped at a light I live in Florida where it's real hot every time I stopped at a light rear engine cylinder with shutdown switch to a little never does it again think about it
Thanks for the comments, but unless you have done a lot more to cool down the engine, than change to amsoil, the EITMS is still going to activate in the conditions you describe...IF it is not turned off. I would check that if I were you.
Yep, that is the conclusion that many have come to. Wait til HD is only making EV's, no more internal combustion engines. Evos will be in even greater demand! 😱
We will not be at Laconia. We generally do not do shows, we keep pretty busy making parts, shipping them quickly and always answering the phone and emails in a timely manner...makes it difficult to get to shows. We are considering going to Sturgis this year. If we do, we will be announcing it on the site and on youtube in the next month or so.
Yep, that is correct...and because of no oil cooler it runs even hotter than the Twin Cams. HD did do a better job of reducing the amount of felt heat by the rider and passenger, but the Twin Cooled engine is more likely to suffer heat damage. :( KP
Hi guys great information. My ? is iam still deciding on buying a 2023 tri glide Ultra Trike or 2023 The Road glide 3 Trike so in your guys opinion which bike would be better off to buy with less bullshit engine problems in the future riding 2up all the time..also i had a 2014 triglide ultra with a 103 motor, when my fans or water pump took a shit on my trip home to Sunrise Florida to Alligator Alley,i was told it was ok to keep riding and i got home, but my ride home was very very hot engine,i could feel the heat more than i normally did when the bikes fans and waterpump was working normally, also i had back then i think they were called the juggs dual fan system that was on the bike by the horn side..i dont wanna experience that again, thank god i had the HD WARRANTY BACK THEN!! So guys what bike would you guys recommend and iam 63 and retired with limited $$$.. .....thanks Norman....😊😅😂
Ni Norman, Good to hear you are finding the videos useful. Thank you for the comment! 👍 The RG 3 will cost less, and it will run a bit cooler. It will also ride rougher because of the low profile rear tires. The rougher ride can be dealt with by either changing out the rear wheels and tires, or by upgrading the rear shocks...or maybe the ride quality will not bother you. The bigger considerations are, will you both be comfortable on it. It has a different seat, no Tour Pak (which doubles as a backrest for the passenger). Another difference is that the trunk is accessed from the top rather than the back. Some like that better, others not as much. Test riding both models, back to back, may help in the decision process....remembering, you can change the seat on the RG3 if it is not good for you, and you can also add a passenger backrest to the RG3. Hope that helps. KP
I installed the Vance & Hines FP3 Programmer/Tuner on my 2017 M8, it allows you to check all kinds of Live Data while riding including ofcourse the oil temperature. I highly recommend this, you will never have to guess about your Bikes condition again 👌🏻
We use Oil Temp dipsticks from JesCustoms. In the past we have used HD digital dipsticks, but they are hit and miss on how long they last. You can also get a temp sensor that you plug into the engine and then run wires to a gauge that you figure out where to mount. Much more expensive, and you will get warmer readings as the oil in the engine is hotter than the oil in the tank that is measured with the temp dipstick. All of our testing has been done with oil temp dipsticks.
My question is, why didn't harley put a fan behind the oil cooler on my 2018 oil cooled electraglide. It's wired for it down there. So when I put a fan on it I have to take to.the dealer and have them flash the ecm to turn it on.
We cannot answer for Harley. Sometimes they do really good things (see first video below), and sometimes they do really dumb things (see second video below). They do not come with one. They Sporty 883 usually does not need an oil cooler. If the oil temps are staying at 230 F or lower, you are good to go with no oil cooler. If they are going past 230 F, definitely should add an oil cooler. HD has oil temp dipsticks that you can use to monitor your oil temp.
Will this modification affect the warranty ? even if it is for a better running engine . because some guys lost it just for simple engine mod like a house made stage 1 .
Yeah, and Harley got spanked by the FTC for such bogus warranty denials. Pulling a trailer or using an aftermarket tuner are the only things that are warranty red flags now. Of course, if you install something that causes the engine to fail, that will not be covered. Here is a video of the FTC cracking down on HD's illegal warranty practices. th-cam.com/video/M-QdwkZ3_RQ/w-d-xo.html
Gday Kevin, is the cooler kit able to be put on the right hand side of the bike still giving access to the oil filter from the left, i have a 2020 Ultra Limited wet head,
The bracket we make is for a left side mount of the oil cooler. We recommend doing an oil filter relo, then you can mount the oil cooler on the left side. Additional benefits are easier, no mess oil filter changes and it is more in the wind, so additional cooling. There is no reduction in lean angle, and the bike can fall on its side and the relocated oil filter will not touch the ground. Here is a link to the package- www.dkcustomproducts.com/oil-filter-relocation-oil-cooler-combo-pkg-harley-touring-dk-ofr-dcoc-2wh.htm If, for some reason you do not want to relo the oil filter, you could take our bracket, that comes with the kit and fab up a mirror of it yourself. We have tested the Ultracool Oil Coolers, with fans and without fans (we were considering running some on our own bikes and offering them on our website). They definitely cool the oil a significant amount. They do Not cool the oil as well as the Jagg oil coolers. They are around 80% as effective as the Jagg units. Additionally, they do not make their adapters, coolers or fans. One of the reasons their coolers have so many counterfeits (see their homepage) is because the factories that they have used in China are knocking them off. They only have a 1 year warranty...and if you have a new Touring model with lower fairings they want you to cut the lower fairing. If it was the only oil cooler available, we would run it. But it is not. Jagg makes their own and if you have a problem with one 5 or 10 years down the road they will take care of you. I have a 2021 Harley Tri Glide M8 114. If I decat. stock header do I need to add tuner to protect engine from too lean a condition? Which lift mod. do you recommend, 1, 1 1/2, or 2 inch, if I add your wing kit.
No, you do not need to retune if you remove the cat. M8's do not run too lean, and removing the cat will not make it run too lean. See this video on the OEM tune for the M8- th-cam.com/video/Lb_57Z_Ipms/w-d-xo.html A 1" or 1.5" will work well with the cooling deflector wings on your Tri Glide...as long as you do not have some lowered adjustment to your bars, or things hanging off your bars. It is easy to check for clearance...steps are in this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/touring-model-tank-lift-kit-dk-trg-tlk.htm
It does not work as well as it would with a fan assist, but it still gives quite a bit of surface area for the heat to dissipate as it is flowing thru the cooler. Also, the oil filter being out, away from the engine, also adds to the cooling, whether stopped or moving.
This bike was an M8 that does not have an oil pressure gauge (yeah, crazy). This is what HD shows in the manual regarding oil pressure and Oil temps- www.dkcustomproducts.com/image/2021_Dyno_Pulls/M8-Oil%20Manual.jpg
@@DKCustomProducts I'd be replacing that idiot oil light with an oil gauge, and more than likely increase the oil pressure by filing the clearances of the oil pump say from .011 to .04 of an inch to get 20-30 psi at idle and 50 psi when running especially on an increased compression ratio from the factory 🏭, and a lesser cooling system that they decided to wing it with the customer base for trials. The oil pressure gauge is good to measure when it's time for an oil change as well as a daily driver, adding more flow to the remote oil cooler than the stock pressure as well. Harley is going to abandon the riders with electric there corporates and will sell you out just to look at you.

Enjoyed content Can we assume that a water cooled engine will run at a lower temperature than an air cooled engine? Also re water cooled vs oil cooler engines-does oil dissipate heat better than the coolant? Your views?
Thank you, glad you enjoyed, and we appreciate your comment. Did you watch the video? I thought I was pretty clear. The Twin-Cooled (even Harley does not dare call it water cooled) only circulates oil coolant around the exhaust valves. And there is NO PLACE for the oil to shed all the heat it is absorbing. On the oil cooled bikes they have a very large oil cooler that is one of the best things HD has done in the last couple of decades. Here are a couple of videos that go into more detail on Twin-Cooled vs. Oil Cooled. They both show testing and results...one of them of both bikes riding side by side and showing temps of oil and engine heat. th-cam.com/video/h7EdjR8l8Ag/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/6AhPqVlvE-w/w-d-xo.html
You ask “why” Harley Davidson can’t figure out how to put an oil cooler on their twin cooled bikes? You know good and well that Harley figured that out years ago, but johan or johon or whatever his name is, isn’t about to spend the extra $100 per $50k motorcycle to make the product right. Not when people will buy the bikes anyway lining his pockets with cash on top of cash while the everyday, hard working, man gets sold an inferior product because of corporate greed.
Oh my goodness...that is just not possible. There is no doubt that many folks find their engines running cooler with Amsoil than many other oils...but most bikes (Twin Cam & M8), from 2007 and later will run 270-325 F. Changing to Amsoil is not going to lower the oil temps by 95-110 F.
Makes sense! don't underestimate your Mississippi operation, you all have brains and a lot of common sense. Good work again.
Thanks Man! We appreciate you watching and commenting on the video's!
Engine at 235 F is really good, we have not been able to achieve that on a stock M8 Softail on a warm day at interstate speeds.
Here's a fun video we did on The Great Oil Debate-

Thanks for the comment and good to hear you are enjoying the videos.
-Could not find any data that showed if they cooled better or worse than a traditional oil cooler
-The cost of pulling the bar, pressure testing it to make sure there were no leaks at any of the weld joints, thoroughly cleaning the inside of the tubing, drilling and tapping the inlet and outlet ports....This would cost more in time and money than a traditional oil cooler
- If you lay the bike over and break the oil cooler you would be stranded.

Thank you for the comment and info! Agree 100% with you and your dad. 👍😎👍
I actually liked the later V-Rods. If they still made them i'd think about it.
Yes, there were a lot of folks that liked them...just not enough for them to keep them in production. 🏍
I will be calling tomorrow. Thank guys.
Thank you! Yeah man give us a call
Thank you for your business, we appreciate it.
If, during the summer, you are still getting more heat than you are comfortable with, take a look at this video for low and no cost ways to cool down the engine. th-cam.com/video/o3T3yA9BKwE/w-d-xo.html
Also, if you still have a cat in your headers, removing that will reduce radiated heat from the exhaust.
i have a 2015 ultra limited. took it out this past weekend in 100 degree and road it at around 70 mph for 20 to 30 minutes on highway and the hottest i saw it get was 230 engine temp.

@@DKCustomProducts There have been hybrid water/air cooled car engines in the past. The fact that they no longer exist may be a clue!
You have a good point there. HD is in a catch-22, as we talk about in this video- th-cam.com/video/N0kLaVQhbW4/w-d-xo.html
@@DKCustomProducts Thanks for the link. A water cooled Harley would be a hard sell!
Yeah, they have not found the secret formula yet, we'll see if they do in the future.
Really is mind blowing when you consider that the HD engineers didn’t see a problem with 300deg oil temps! Absolutely unacceptable IMO.
HD needs to hire you boys as consultants
They are in a bit of a catch-22. Here is a video where we discuss that a bit- th-cam.com/video/N0kLaVQhbW4/w-d-xo.html
Here's a video on some of the differences between a Gen I and Gen II M8 that you may find interesting/useful.
th-cam.com/video/HZLy_lH9cz0/w-d-xo.html
KP
Good information! I am glad that you are able to keep your bike running cool with what you are doing!
Thank you for commenting! 👍
i have used an oil temperature gauge for 20 years on my twin cams and m8's.

The oil psi having cooler thicker oil for better psi is a good point.
Sounds like you have your bike set up well.
Thank you for your business, we appreciate it, and are glad to hear you are enjoying the benefits. 👍😎👍

The leg fairing s block a lot of air from the engine. So Harley felt the water cooling would be better than the oil cooler.
It might have been better at cooling if they would have had it cooling in more areas. 😎👍 MB

I discovered the water pump when I was checkingnit out for an oil cooling system. It sucks that they let bikes out there that burn the Hell of the oil.
Yeah, that was probably the biggest design flaw that HD has come out with in the last 20+ years. Right up there with the cam chain tensioners.

My oil temps are around 215 on a 85* day but engine temperature on the power vision is at least 230 or more. This is cruising at 65 -70 2015 road king with 10.2:1 compression. I’ve found using engine oil that is not to be used in the clutch runs cooler
That is a great oil temp! 👍 Engine temp on a Twin Cam should be able to be kept at 230 or lower.

Thanks for the comments, but unless you have done a lot more to cool down the engine, than change to amsoil, the EITMS is still going to activate in the conditions you describe...IF it is not turned off. I would check that if I were you.
Heck with all this. Sticking with Evos, sporty and BT lol
Yep, that is the conclusion that many have come to. Wait til HD is only making EV's, no more internal combustion engines. Evos will be in even greater demand! 😱
Hello Gentlemen. Will you guys be in Laconia this year?
We will not be at Laconia. We generally do not do shows, we keep pretty busy making parts, shipping them quickly and always answering the phone and emails in a timely manner...makes it difficult to get to shows.
We are considering going to Sturgis this year. If we do, we will be announcing it on the site and on youtube in the next month or so.
The wet head was not made to cool the motor it's made to cool the Exhaust guides/seats/valves
Yep, that is correct...and because of no oil cooler it runs even hotter than the Twin Cams. HD did do a better job of reducing the amount of felt heat by the rider and passenger, but the Twin Cooled engine is more likely to suffer heat damage. :(

Ni Norman,
Good to hear you are finding the videos useful. Thank you for the comment! 👍
The RG 3 will cost less, and it will run a bit cooler.

What's the best way to measure your oil temps?
Are you sure you are getting an oil temp on your FP3? Did you install a sensor that is sending a reading to the FP3?
My question is, why didn't harley put a fan behind the oil cooler on my 2018 oil cooled electraglide. It's wired for it down there. So when I put a fan on it I have to take to.the dealer and have them flash the ecm to turn it on.
We cannot answer for Harley. Sometimes they do really good things (see first video below), and sometimes they do really dumb things (see second video below).
One thing that they do that is pretty consistent, they do things that will bring them in the most dollars from their Customers.

Do you think the 883 needs an oil cooler? Forgive my ignorance, if it already has one!

Here is a link to the package- www.dkcustomproducts.com/oil-filter-relocation-oil-cooler-combo-pkg-harley-touring-dk-ofr-dcoc-2wh.htm
If, for some reason you do not want to relo the oil filter, you could take our bracket, that comes with the kit and fab up a mirror of it yourself. Make sure to put the angled holes in it, they are important for air flow to the engine.

Do Harley's have enough pressure and volume to run two oil coolers?
Yes, the oil pump will have no problem pushing the oil thru two Jagg oil coolers...you can see them here-
www.dkcustomproducts.com/secondary-oil-coolers-c613-197.htm
and here- www.dkcustomproducts.com/harley-davidson-softail-models-c151.htm
There is no significant resistance to the oil flowing thru these oil filters. The passageways are much larger than many of the passageways in the engine.
Feel free to email or call with any questions. Thank you for looking at our parts.

See this video on the OEM tune for the M8- th-cam.com/video/Lb_57Z_Ipms/w-d-xo.html
A 1" or 1.5" will work well with the cooling deflector wings on your Tri Glide...as long as you do not have some lowered adjustment to your bars, or things hanging off your bars. It is easy to check for clearance...steps are in this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/touring-model-tank-lift-kit-dk-trg-tlk.htm
How well does the oil cooler for 2014 limited work in heavy traffic with no fan assit
It does not work as well as it would with a fan assist, but it still gives quite a bit of surface area for the heat to dissipate as it is flowing thru the cooler. Also, the oil filter being out, away from the engine, also adds to the cooling, whether stopped or moving.
Just wondering what is the oil pressure on these bikes as a reference? from cold to hot conditions.
@@ApocalypsesandSurvival All good info. Thanks for the comment.
Too Much Heat ❓
Harley Davidson as far as burns were concerned. measured by degrees 🥵 the hands arms and passenger legs
Sounds like the engine is just too hot overall and needs some cooling down.

Kawasaki Vulcan needs to drop a new model/engine/weight to blow the doors off Harley!
Yeah, I don't think so. Might go faster, but it will not have the fit and finish, or that visceral feel that a Harley has.
I got a DRAGON T143 S&S ENGINE in my bagger on Nitrous, bring any of ur kawasaki out that r stock including zx14
@vtwinpower1897 That sounds like fun!
SO if I put an oil cooler on my 2019 RGU do I get rid of my might mite fans
Or keep them both? One cools the metal and the other the oil.
@@DKCustomProducts ok i'm in onthe oil cooler and relocation filter, now i need a video that shows me how to do it, I'll probably buy a kit from you guys in April 2023. thanks

Can we assume that a water cooled engine will run at a lower temperature than an air cooled engine?

Thank you for your comment and sharing your perspective.
Sometimes we are perplexed by the decisions made at the MoCo.
If you will run Amsoil oil in your twin cam motorcycle it will run 35% cooler guaranteed
