It's amazing how resilient she is even after being abused.
Is she a malinois, which I think she is, that is UNUSUAL because they r shy/skittish and for her to bond that fast is AMAZING and as others said it shows what a AMAZING man he Is and she knew right away she was protected, had a strong leader, could trust him. Dogs of all breeds bond hard but malinois are like SUPER GLUE when they bond lol you have a shadow 4 life

When she layed on your chest at the end of day #2 it brought tears to my eyes. Thinking how she endured abuse at the evil hands of a man and here she is responding to the tender loving hands of your hands... Xena reminds me of my neighbor's dog, who had originally been found beaten in a junkyard in Florida and my neighbor broke in after hours and rescued her and brought her back to Michigan. For the first months, the dog was skittish and scared of men and any loud noise. My neighbor's dad had knocked a Coke can out of the refrigerator and she ran up the stairs and tried to hide under the bed, so sad. The first time I met her I sat down on the ground and talk really gentle and my voice was slightly raised so it wouldn't scare her. She came right over to me and I petted her and praised her. She eventually came around and put her fears aside.
Oh by the way, her name was Ginger and she lived to be an elderly dog. In loving memory. 🕯

For the breed I think her eyes are actually rather recessed. I wonder, if she was starved since birth she could have vision problems from underdeveloped eyes. I'm sure Lee will catch any issues and he and the Vets will help her the best they can. But sad eyes can become happy eyes!

I agree 100%. Dogs are also a gift from God. What is dog spelt backwards? Who has always been man's BEST friend? Sound familiar? Didn't fly in Theology class but I'm still going with it.
I dont understand how anyone can be so cruel to a puppy and to keep them locked in a cage all the time so they never know what running is, or playing outside with a toy or even a full meal. Why would anyone get a precious dog who only wants to be loved and love back in return and keep them locked up and starved for food ,affection, & play. It breaks my heart and makes me sick to my stomach at the same time. I'm so grateful for the Asher house and everything they have done for these precious souls that were forgotten about. They have been given such a beautiful gift at a second chance at a happy life. I just hope the Asher house can expand all over the country to help as many lost and abused and scared dogs as possible. And a shout out to all the amazing rescues and foster people that have hearts of gold and will do everything in their power to help protect these beautiful dogs, Thank you.❤❤❤🙏🏻👏🏻
I will never understand how humans can be so cruel. I don't know you Lee, but I have so much love and respect for you. I've never seen anyone sing silly songs to their pups like I do, or celebrate and take notice of the small victories the pups go thru as they transition from scared timid pups to happy carefree pups. I have three girls I have rescued and that is one of the most beautiful things I've experienced in this life. Cheers from Texas!

Thank goodness 4 people like you. I remember saying when I was young, I would save all the lost & abused animals. Unfortunately, I grew up with health problems that made me unable 2 do so. But I have rescued & taken in what I could. So thank you 4 doing what you can.

What an amazing pack. They're all so chill and welcoming to new members. My rescue Jack Russell was emaciated and nervous when I adopted her, she too was terrified of men, wouldn't let certain areas of her body be touched, not even for belly rubs. But now she's the Belly Rub Queen and she adores meeting new people and other dogs, she's so so sweet natured and loves to snuggle. I'd be lost without her. Dogs are incredible creatures. Seeing them happy makes me happy too. You all are what the world needs.

The rescue community needs all the help it can get! Anyone with a loving heart can foster and many more animals could be saved if more people became involved on the front lines like Lee. I foster pitties despite living in an apartment, so I know anyone can make a little room for a bit, esp when it gives a deserving animal a long overdue chance at a good life. New volunteers and fosters are always desperately needed, there just aren't enough homes opening up for them in time. Please spread the word, people! Always always adopt, don't shop... and... Fostering saves lives. Many more dogs and cats deserve the happiness Xena will now have.

My friends and I also rescue pets and wild animals. We've seen the same abuse. The only thing we can figure out so far is that some people enjoy abusing others (we feel for any small children in the home!), so they'll pick someone who can't talk/ tell about it.

The problem is often by law if you rent you not allowed eighter cats or dogs!But i help different ways to RESCUE or SHELTERS to promote Adoptions! I was donating to one shelter from little i have ...but they instead..start KILLING HELPLESS ANIMALS! From now on I donate stuff and promote Adoptions, shares,and fight to ban puppy mills and Strickt Sanctions for animal ABUSERS! Petitions to POLITICIANS and Awareness...but Criminals animal ABUSERS still get slap and Not much changes been done to POOR HELPLESS ANIMALS to be PROTECTED! I remember this is how I got my dog Angel.
Her previous owners kept her locked up pretty much 24/7, letting her out just to tie her up outside for hours on end, no matter what the weather was.
My sister was good friends with the previous owners and when she seen her she grabbed a leash, opened the cage and took her without saying anything.
Previous owners called the cops on my sister but once they arrived and seen the state she was in the previous owners were both arrested for animal abuse.

But ome day she was over and they forgot to shut the door to the room, my sister saw the dog and took her.
They basically snitched on themselves and made that whole case easy asf! But I'm so happy your fur baby is safe with you❤ just like some people shouldn't have kids it's the same with dogs. Don't get a dog just to get a dog and neglect it

Honey, this grandma thinks you are an absolutely one of the most wonderful and inspirational men I have ever heard of. I love watching Asher House videos. The trust that Xena almost immediately developed with you and the pack is miraculous to watch. I call the “pack walk” the “Miracle Freedom Mile” because something miraculous happens on that walk as the dog realizes that she is free and safe for the first time in her life!

There are people out there who don't believe that animals deserve the best 'cos they don't feel the way humans do. You only have to look in Xena's eyes to read the fear & sorrow that's been left in the wake of her abuse.

It really is astounding. Not sure if it is forgiveness or a short memory, but these rescues can bounce back so fast. My grandparents adopted a poodle female that was rescued from a puppy mill, she never came right. Skittish and mean til her end. I suspect the young dogs have a better chance at calming down and socializing.
Love seeing all those dogs in the pack out exploring together, it’s what they are made to do.
The gift, the reward of doing this emotionally and physically hard work: seeing them relax, come alive, respond to the smallest kindness and biggest love, fulfill their potential for health, and be who they were meant to be. Well done! 👏🏻❤️

It may not be hard-hitting talk, but it's the kind of talk that let's the person know it is wrong they knew about the abuse and didn't report it.

@@ladyjade6446 thank you for doing that, my view is I don't care who you are, if you are capable of abusing an animal then those traights will follow through in other aspects of your personality, I've reported a family member for animal abuse previously and the rest of the family got mad at me but at the end of the day abuse is abuse, she had children to so God knows how she treats them behind closed doors :/

I adopted my new best friend 1 yr ago., just lost my girl of 16yrs. So many things we've done this past year that I could tell she'd never done before. She was never abused but never had her own bed, never swam in a pond, never went nuts at the beach before. It's a sad and happy moment when you get to show them what a life of love can do. She's sooo happy now! Adopting is always worth it.

@@joanrosado3355 I agree with you I don't understand for the life of me how any one could abuse and neglect or abandonment their animals poor zena she looks so bad I am so glad that lee has her now she will never be hurt again I wish we could find her old owners and lock them up in a filthy cage we will make them sit in thier own pee and poop and we won't feed them let's see how they like it no animal deserves to be treated like that my heart is breaking for her she is such a sweet dog no matter what she been through she is so forgiving and trusting with Lee I really hope he keeps her I don't want her to leave the sanctuary I think she is going to thrive there with Lee and the pack she is so tiny for a German shepherd she is so beautiful I love her lee has a heart of gold for helping so many beautiful animals he is a wonderful person do you know how I can donate to help him I would love to support him he is such a angel on earth

Even in recent videos, you will see Xena always look back to Lee and sorta "check with him." It's such a sweet, basic gesture, but it's so meaningful.

What he says about the mal-nutrition is so true. We adopted an Aussie/border collie mix in Aug. 2020. She was 5 years old when rescued from a horrible hoarding situation (over 100 dogs in a 1000 ft house). She weighed 16 pounds upon rescue, had pneumonia, and scarring across her muzzle, possibly from fighting for food. It was a long road to health and learning to trust people enough to be adoptable. Her foster family also runs a dog daycare and they readily credit the other dogs with teaching her to trust people.
Now she is healthy and sassy, happy and ornery, loves to play and sprawls on the bed and floor for belly rubs.
She's 27 pounds, about the size of a terrier or Shetland Sheepdog, although her DNA tests shows her weight should be 40 pounds, with no miniature breeds whatsoever. Many of the younger dogs who were also rescued from that situation are 40 to 46 pounds (we stay in touch). Same DNA, but rescued early out of that abuse, gave them a much better outlook.
So sweet, seeing her cuddling up to you on your shoulder....LOVE WINS AGAIN! Thank you, Lee, for your enormous sweetness and kindness to all the dogs you've ever met....the world is a better place because of you!

The way Xena snuggled with Lee was adorable. She sensed his kind and loving nature to feel she was finally in a safe and nurturing place.
