    Hey Jimmy,
As an owner of a 2004 XT225, I love my bike, and I would definitely replace all the parts for only about $250 more! And because you do not know of you are selling it or keeping it, either way it will have a good outcome. Also you will not have that feeling of worry when riding it on long trips. Plus, you will have that accomplished feeling knowing that you can sell it for a good price, or ride it for many years with no troubles.
    Take care, and ride safe.

I'd have to rebuild it if it were me. Want to thank you for your videos on Yamaha sr250! Got one, did it up completely stock, with the trunk! Your videos helped me to rebuild the carb and fix the front brake, plus tons of little things. Love the bike, love your channel. If you were wondering who was watching that series so much, it was me! Love your channel, rebuild this and film it for us!!! That would be amazing. Tyvm:)

You love that bike sooo rebuild it while apart and KNOW that it WILL be darn reliable for however long you own it 😁👍 other wise every time you get on it you always have that though (is it going to get me home)
Keep well mate and ride safe 😉🍺🍺

Okay Jimmy, rebuild with minimum spend but thorough clean, place your order for a CRF250F (OR BUY USED)yes the F, convert to dual sport for the road. You will like it, more power, great handling and not too tall, no mods needed other than road conversion.

Thank you for your video. I have just discovered today I have lots of metal flakes and bits in my engine today on my Honda CBR250RR. I really appreciate the info. I want to rebuild my engine and will be replacing all the bearings even if they appear ok just in case a slither of metal has contaminated them. Good luck with what you decided to do. Happy riding.

Yep, it's getting the whole treatment. It's all in except for a cam chain guide...video update to follow soon. Thanks!

Sorry to hear the bad news. Surprised to hear the gear is giving up at relatively low mileage. Personally I would go through it all while the engine is apart. It always sucks when you have to revisit a big project because you cut corners the first time.

Just picked up a WR426 drain. The oil and loads of glittery must be aluminum because it's non-ferrous in it and the filter looked like his filter the first one. Well I rode it for a half hour so far. Not sure what to do

Hi Jimmy! So sorry to hear about your situation! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I don’t have the same as I have a 2004 with 5k and a 2006 with 16k like yours. I’d take a little different route than fix it. You say parts run $500 but what about your time? That’s worth something. I’m guessing another 700? That’s 1200 total. With that, I’d be looking at two options. Sell as is and add that to the $1200 and go buy another used XT….or use the money as a down payment on a xt250 or something else…that’s my thoughts. Or you co you could keep it for parts and find another xt and buy it. Cause I would also have to add in a visit to the ER room when I smash my knuckles on something during repairs! Hahah

Side note: bought my xt 2006 new. Noticed speedometer red lined at 55 mph. I never rode faster than 55 cause I didn’t want to over rev it. Come to find out, back then, top speed here was 55 on any hiway and speedometer red line was just for that and not because it was its max rev limit! Live and learn.

What kind of oil do you use in this bike? Modern automotive oil really doesn't have enough ZDDP anti-wear additivies for minimum wear of gear teeth, tappets, sprockets, chains, etc.

Ah what a pain that is .for me i would do the extra engine bits while its all stripped down as you gone so far in to it now and can sell on later when its all bedded back in meanwhile the vintage yamaha will bring smiles hopefully and not too many parts delays too.! Good luck with it all keep us up to date along the way D

Fix it so you wont feel guilty when you sell it. You won't have to lower the sales price because you saved $200 on parts now. ( I worry about things like that )

I saw you sponsored Gabe and the SP500 over on Torture Test Magazine. As a fellow supporter I decided to check out your channel. Great vids! As for the engine, I would rebuild the whole thing while it’s apart. Good luck!

At $250 more I’d do it especially if you don’t plan on keeping it unless your going to let it go for a low price and full disclosure.

At least you Have an oil filter. My 150cc scooter only has a mesh screen. I'd Love to put an oil filter on it but it's not possible. I'm still breaking in the engine and have to rely on a magnet to help catch any metal shavings from the break in. Btw, How do you "Flush" the engine for metal shavings without tearing it apart? I may want to do something like that to my scooter after the break in period.

This has been an issue with top gear on XTs since the beginning, really. The primary cause, other than the gears being a bit weak, is lugging. Allowing a single to pull a tall gear at low to moderate rpm tends to send shock waves through the transmission that over time cause stress pitting in the gears.
If the engine was mine, I would just clean it out and salvage as much as possible, and replace just what's needed.

So wait what 17000 miles is that normal been thinking for awhile getting used bike but that would crush me. At least you know how to fix. Should I reconsider getting dual sport after reading so many bragging on Yamaha this is quite disheartening

Interesting irony that I would be finding this video soon after passing on a '05 XT225 with less than 1k miles on it. The dealer OTD was $4000 on a 17 yr old putt putt. I had every intention of buying it, and one of the main reasons was 6th gear! Had that price not pushed me away, it would be sitting in my garage right now, I would have a large lump of buyers remorse in my throat. Oh well guess everything happens for a reason. Cheers.

Jimmy, I guess the question is what were you going to purchase at the 20,000 mile mark? Were you going for an EFI xt250? Older xt 350? Newer crf? Klx? More questions than answers in this scenario LOL.

Hey Jimmy - That's too bad about your 6th gear. If money's tight I'd just do what is absolutley necessary... Clean it up and put it back together. If the extra bucks aren't a huge issue it may be worth it to do it while you have it torn apart. I had to do "The Walk of Shame" last night pushing my little Virago 250 around the block when the battery died (I knew it was on its way out but kinda pushed my luck)...switched it out tonight with a new one. Hopefully it's all good now. Took it for a little ride and seemed to be okay.
Looking forward to more on your little Yamaha 100!
    Kelly

If the top end is good... leave it. The lower end must be done right. Flush the whole oil system, and check the pump.

  • @dualsportjeff423
    @dualsportjeff423 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Why you have it apart I would just do it right and replace all that's broke. Not fun when a bike is broke. But you got the 100 going and that's great

  • @doobielew5439

If you can get a better bike for $500 with a rebuilt engine then do that but otherwise fix it to the highest standard and if you come to sell you should get strong money.

    Hi Jimmy,
Yes, I would at least do the minimum replacements... the most critical parts, if money is an issue.
Also, what's the deal with the clutch? Several times I thought maybe it's was slipping a bit watching you're prior videos. But that may be just your clutch action.
