Surprised nobody mentioned how visually impressive the movie was for its time. Practical effects and sets were not just state of the art but they were at least 10+ years ahead of their time. Probably my all-time favourite movie.
No, the effects were not ahead of their time. 10 years later everything was going CGI. Matte paintings, miniatures, rear projection were all standard for years at this point.
It still stands up because they don’t actually show much in many of the actions scenes. You see gun fire, people screaming and shouting, closeup of people’s faces, quick flashes of the aliens. Short clips of alien parts getting shot to peaces, or a quick few seconds of a marine being killed with a closeup of the alien teeth and hissing sounds. Sometimes you just hear the aliens screeching and gun fire but nothing is shown. It’s brilliant because the viewer’s imagination is left to create a lot of the horror. It also means that Aliens stands up very well today. If they had tried to show the action scenes with the technology back then it would have looked very fake and dated as it is some of the scenes in Terminator 1. With the technology and cgi that exists today many directors get lazy and simply show too much, robbing the scene of its intended horror and taking away any need for the audience to imagine and take part in creating a more visceral experience in their mind.
Ripley doesn’t know about the nest because the theatrical release did not show her discovering Dallas in the nest. So no one would question Ripley saying nothing on release of Aliens. This scene was all new to most people and got added many years later to DVD release. The version you saw of Aliens was also different to the theatrical release. It didn’t have the scenes of the colonists and newt’s parents for example. The gun turret scene was cut, too. But were added to later director’s cut versions.

Great reaction! This was definitely a great sequel and so well done. Alien 3 is kind of divisive, and a lot of people don't like it, but it's not bad, and it completes the story of what happens with Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop.
The Assembly Cut is a far better movie than many would have you believe. The theatrical version doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The cgi is appalling, it has a weird green cast to it, and there are some things that are unfinished, but it's a decent film overall.
@@davida7153 Luckily, Alien and Aliens are too good to be tarnished by any of the awful and disappointing sequels. It's the same with The Terminator and T2. But Alien 3 couldve been great. We couldve seen unique Alien hybrids. We couldve seen the franchise go from being about Ripley to Newt, a character with even more potential. Instead, the producers decided to replace beloved characters like Newt and Hicks with vicious murderers and rap***s. I mean, the filmmakers didnt even show enough ambition and imagination to give the ox-Alien hybrid a set of horns. That wouldve at least made the Assembly Cut interesting
you know i was in the theatre watching another movie when the trailer for this particular movie appeared and i thought to myself that at any cost i gotta see this movie!!!!
I think it would be great if you reacted to Prometheus and Alien:Covenant which are prequel movies that establish some of the backstory of how the Alien creatures came into being. Ridley Scott, the director of the original film made them and they are way better than the Alien 3 and 4!!! In my opinion 😂 I'd love to see you watch them because nobody else has!!! Thanks for your hard work - I really enjoy your reactions ❤
No, sorry, _Prometheus_ is literal garbage, with a laughable plot where all the main characters act like brainless idiots. (Okay, the ship's captain and his copilot are the only ones with some smarts, but they're mere side-characters who die sacrificing themselves.) The only interesting character is the android Adam, because heis more than a stereotype and he has a goal and sticks to it... to bad he's basically insane and so very obviously evil that he's the antagonist for the first two-thirds of the movie. _Prometheus_ rivals _Alien 4_ in how unwatchable it is. _Alien 4_ tries hard to be a surreal horror comedy(wtf) with _5th Element_ aesthetics; the only good thing in it is the underwater scene and Ripley's clone, but in the end she dies anyway. _Alien 3_ was at least an effective horror movie if seen by itself, with characters who act smart and try to survive (but still die). Its setting of a prison colony and the use of just a single alien in a place where people only have improvised weapons harkens back to the claustrophobic atmosphere of the first _Alien_ movie. It's so disliked as a movie because it retroactively ruined _Aliens_ for many people, as it threw everything Ripley had won at the end of _Aliens_ into the garbage bin.
30:27 Burke: "This installation has a substantial dollar value attached to it". Jyn: "This guy!" Ryl: "You're a robot!" :I don't know why I found that so funny x)

This A2 baby!!! Ale-ee-inz, plural. I actually got to see this in the movie theater when I was a little kid, and it blew my mind. I had watched the first movie on video and was like, "Wow, we're really doing a sequel"? Back then, the only sequels I saw to horror films were trashy cash grab slasher flicks that were rarely ever as good as the original. But this changed my entire outlook on horror sequels, that thye could not only be as good as the original but surpass it.
46:18 that’s exactly what makes Ellen Ripley, a bad ass. so many movies these days try too hard to do the quote, “badass female” trope the wrong way, whereas this movie does it correctly. she’s not some invincible warrior, she’s not perfect, but she has that maternal instinct to protect children and make sure they are safe and is willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen.
The funniest thing is that the charachter "Bishop" has a mager sit-com "Mad About You" and they want to enjoy a "Friday Night Movie" and he says get an alien movie but not the 2nd one because it scares me...fantastic actor
Just leave the Alien franchise there ladies. Part 3 is considered an abomination, so much so it was almost retconned a few years back by Neill Blomkamp.
Vasquez also played a vampire in a very underrated movie with the actor who played Bishop, called Near Dark. The last vampires you would ever want to meet.

If I am not mistaken, on the alien ship there is a protective barrier over all of the eggs that I think would have prevented anything from the eggs from getting out. It didn’t prevent either man from slipping in under the barrier though. So, when they were pulled out with the alien attached to their face, that is how the first of the aliens got out. Refer to the first movie to see what I am talking about when I speak of the barrier. The guy who slipped under it in that movie even mentions it before he slips.
Good point! Just guessing here, but as the Alien eggs seem to respond to the proximity of a host as at least one of the factors in when they open (which is similar to a lot of the eggs of the insects Aliens are meant to invoke, which can often sit in a condition of almost-impervious stasis until the environment around them becomes conducive to the survival of hatchlings), I'm thinking the mentioned "mist layer" may have been a shield to prevent the presence of the Engineers from triggering release of the facehuggers. Once the humans crossed that barrier, though, the eggs could detect them. Of course, the Engineers also weren't exactly perfect in their failsafe designs, assuming we grasp their intentions accurately. If they were trying to keep beings from the derelict/crashed vessel and its dangerous cargo, creating a repeating beacon with a single source was probably the worst way to go about it, as presumably any life that could master technological space-travel (as the Engineers had done) would be curious enough to find such a signal irresistible. You'd think that, at the least, you'd want to couple such a signal with a variety of potentially-deadly radiations in order to discourage unwary investigation. Nothing says "there's danger here" like a bunch of x-rays that'll kill you regardless of whether the cargo gets an opportunity to do so.
When you guys were talking about the eggs, saying it needs a host and asking why it needs to attach to us, and mentioned maybe it takes something from us. Actually that is partially correct. Really any animal or human or even other aliens can be attached onto by a facehugger. And it uses that host whatever it is as like a platform to build off of. In alien 3 the alien attaches to a dog or cow or something I can’t remember. And it looks very different than these aliens. This can lead to the alien that comes out being extra dangerous and having special powers and abilities depending on what the host was.
51:31 James Cameron intended for Bishop’s nature and motives to be suspicious and suspect to the audience, from the very first meeting. All of that was to set up the sense of doubt, fear and suspicion for Ripley and the audience basically living through the film, through her… it’s only after this part where we are supposed to be truly convinced of Bishop’s character, but also to intensify the reaction the audience in this sequence.
You all don't have to worry about a fancy studio because you're doing the other things right; people visit to see you watch a favorite movie for the 1st time - you enjoy the movie and say what you think without putting on a performance, that's perfect. If you brought a cup of coffee to the review, it can be good because that's a picture of relaxation, having coffee and seeing a movie, I relax because in my imagination I'm doing the same :) keep doing what you're doing lol
I would hardly call a laptop a "fancy studio". No doubt they could do more reactions with a reasonable computer to work on. They should put up a tip just or "buy me a coffee" link.
there is a clip that was not put on film where burke was stuck to the wall with resin and ripley gave him a grenade and took the pin out for him to hold so he could blow himself up . i do have the clip.

Wonderful reaction ladies!!! I hope you enjoyed it at least as much as I enjoyed your reactions : ) Thanks also for watching the Director's cut. Now that you've seen it, I can tell you the directors cut added only two scenes: 1: The scene where we find out Ripley has a dead daughter. 2: the first scene with Newt. I am not sure why these were ever omitted after being filmed, as they added a lot to the movie. I've heard a rumor that there are four more Alien movies after this one. No, let me re-phrase, I wish the four crap movies that followed this one never happened.
During that hearing at the start when he said that no criminal charges would be saught towards Ripley. It was basically "shut up,stay quiet, and you'll still get your pension".....
Just an FYI, if you look up the deleted scenes you can watch what happened to Burke. It's a scene imo should have been left in because it's satisfying and continues the theme of Ripley being the better person.
This is how you create a strong female character. She doesn't have to have super powers and be OP from the get go. She is a competent and sharp woman who relies on her wit and has a strong motivation as a mother. Her female perspective compliments the marines instead of mocking them for being toxic males. This is a perfect movie
The terraformers didn't even get a signal from the xenomorph ship because the beacon in the ship was shut down by Marlo and his crew between the Alien and Aliens in the Alien Isolation game.
This is one of the few sequels which surpass the original. Near perfect film imo. I just love Ripley, she's so human and scared and just doing what she has to survive.
I watch this reaction just to see these 2 lovely woman react to what we teenagers saw in those times. They are about to discover the ultimate female hero mother E. Ripley ❤❤

Great reaction ladies! Thank you for a fun time. Here's some more: Alien3, Alien Resurrection, Prometheus, Alien: Covenant
Corporal Hicks is so cute and sexy in this movie and in The Terminator. Also, so funny when Jyn said the aliens look like "octo-snakes" and "scorpions." LOL
I recommend skipping 3 and jumping ahead to Alien Resurrection.
You two are terrific reactors. So much expression and so much heart!!!! Thanks for sharing your reactions to Alien and Aliens.
This movie is almost 40 years old and the stills ,effects , sets, computer and electronics gear, etc., are still all amazing to look at. So u can watch all the Alien, Predator, Alien vs Predator movies, Bladerunners, the Things, plus Prometheus!
6:05 The lady in the picture modelling as Ellen Ripley's deceased daughter is Elizabeth Inglis, Sigourney Weaver's mother. 😂
55:30 It is a total of six movies but only the first two films are good.
Great reaction! This was definitely a great sequel and so well done. Alien 3 is kind of divisive, and a lot of people don't like it, but it's not bad, and it completes the story of what happens with Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop.
The "Assembly Cut" of it is pretty good.
Completes?? By taking a huge crap on the legacy created by Aliens??
The Assembly Cut is a far better movie than many would have you believe. The theatrical version doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
The cgi is appalling, it has a weird green cast to it, and there are some things that are unfinished, but it's a decent film overall.
More like "erases". Nah the first 2 movies are too good to be disappointed by a worthless sequel.
Jyn's terrified shake was hilarious. I love you guy's.
you know i was in the theatre watching another movie when the trailer for this particular movie appeared and i thought to myself that at any cost i gotta see this movie!!!!
I think it would be great if you reacted to Prometheus and Alien:Covenant which are prequel movies that establish some of the backstory of how the Alien creatures came into being. Ridley Scott, the director of the original film made them and they are way better than the Alien 3 and 4!!! In my opinion 😂
I'd love to see you watch them because nobody else has!!!
Love your channel ladies, glad I stumbled on to you folks.
30:27 Burke: "This installation has a substantial dollar value attached to it".
Jyn: "This guy!"
Ryl: "You're a robot!"
:I don't know why I found that so funny x)
I remember not wanting to take a bath or sit on the toilet for weeks after seeing this . Lol saying to my mom “wait they eat kids?!” It became my favorite sci-fi horror and action film as an adult.
5:30 In this scene where Ripley cries over a picture of her daughter, Sigourney Weaver was actually looking at a picture of her mother.
Paul Reiser, the actor who played Burke, took his own mother to the movie premier. When Burke was killed, his mother stood up and cheered.
Great reaction and congrats on watching the special edition
Kind heart and good soul. this is why it is cool to watch your reaction vidieos
Lovely reaction
Looking forward to see more from you two
46:18 that’s exactly what makes Ellen Ripley, a bad ass. so many movies these days try too hard to do the quote, “badass female” trope the wrong way, whereas this movie does it correctly. she’s not some invincible warrior, she’s not perfect, but she has that maternal instinct to protect children and make sure they are safe and is willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen.
One of the best reaction channels imo
they really played up the fake out with bishop. james cameron knows what he's doing 😉
The funniest thing is that the charachter "Bishop" has a mager sit-com "Mad About You" and they want to enjoy a "Friday Night Movie" and he says get an alien movie but not the 2nd one because it scares me...fantastic actor
Girls . I love your reaction video :)
You are so intuitive :)
You addressed the heaphones 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Just leave the Alien franchise there ladies. Part 3 is considered an abomination, so much so it was almost retconned a few years back by Neill Blomkamp.
Awesome reactions
I actually met Carrie Henn (Newt) shortly before Halloween. Wish I could put my picture on here.
Part 3 please! Soon as you can!
Vasquez also played a vampire in a very underrated movie with the actor who played Bishop, called Near Dark. The last vampires you would ever want to meet.
She's a brilliant actress. The foster mom in Terminator 2 as well.
She was also the step mother in T2.
@@Cheepchipsable Foster mom, to be exact. Step mom would imply she married Kyle Reese haha.
"Newt" is probably the only kid in history that can screetch and scream and still not annoy me.
"Aliens": Third Officer Ripley has been found and taken to Gateway station with a Xenomorph-size case of PTSD. What will the Weyland-Yutani Suits make of her blowing up the "Nostromo"? Yes, A Laptop computer and proper headphones make editing videos So much easier.;) You are watching the Special Edition version, that appeared in 1990. I bought the SE Laserdisc(!) to answer a question about Ripley I'd had since 1986. 13:09 Actor Jenette Goldstein was a bodybuilder at the time, so Pull Ups were part of her daily routine. 16:09 Ripley has just shown Apone and Hicks that she's not a "front office paper shuffler," but a working class dog like themselves. 18:44 The Hamsters, like Jones the Cat are too small to be Xenomorph hosts. 21:10 Ripley is able to "get close, quickly" to Rebecca, unlike the female Marines. A reviewer at the time said" "Sisterhood!" The SE Laserdisc confirmed my suspicion that Ripley had been a parent. 37:41 The Manual of Arms It is unfortunate that Hollyweird has forgotten how to create an "Ellen Ripley" with their staff of postmodern/no-real-life-experience "writers." Find the Assembly Cut of "Alien3," which makes more sense that the Studio Interference version.
I really enjoyed watching a first time watcher figure out what was happening with the company and things trying to get the aliens back.
Notice Vaz did exactly what Drake did for the crew earlier. Last one holding the aliens back, same scars with the acid too. 💔
In the photo of Ripley's daughter (as an old woman) it's actually her mom :)
I think you walked all over Newt's 'mommy!' line at the end. Nice touch there. Might have to clean up those kind of errors down the road. Don't wanna see you miss stuff like that. The Family Man is a good one for you guys during the holidays. Enjoy!
each of the dates and films including magazines are date timed etc ,her daughter Amanda was in the game alien isolation my man cave is full of aliens , books and predator's ,glad you watching extended version .
I thought it was so cool and really well thought out to have you play as her daughter in the game, it made it so much more immersive and invested in the story
@@CChissel one of the best games , i do have them all but alien isolation is so immersive including the control panels and secret areas ,hardcore was so hard to do
and the dlc where you have ten minutes to run amazing.
@@XENONEOMORPH1979 completely agree
@@michaelccozens I hadn’t tot about the mist layer being a shield to prevent the eggs from detecting them. Good point as well.
Damn! You ladies really gave Bishop a hard time. lol 😉
32:08
Now I realize Terminator 1, he says a Similar thing to Sarah
There's a fourth one as well...
I've been waiting for this one :)
You guys are very good with character names. After a few months, I decided to put a ring on it and subscribe.
there is a clip that was not put on film where burke was stuck to the wall with resin and ripley gave him a grenade and took the pin out for him to hold so he could blow himself up .
i do have the clip.
another great reaction, girls!
I hope you keep watching through the series. Will definitely be following along to see your reactions to them if you do. Thanks again for your great reactions. :)
Great reaction to a great film!
Thank goodness they never made an Alien 3. Two movies was enough.
Bishop is a good boy.
Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias are some films you'd love..Oh and "Grumpy Old Men" is such a fun film to watch this time of year. It's hilarious.
You do a great job editing on your phones. I'm impressed. Hopefully you'll have a laptop soon to save your eyes! Haha, I'm already going blind.
Wonderful reaction ladies!!! I hope you enjoyed it at least as much as I enjoyed your reactions : )
Thanks also for watching the Director's cut.
I really wish we could've seen Blomkamp's idea for a new Alien movie, disregarding Alien 3 and 4. Ripley, Hicks, and Newt would've all returned.
Great reaction! Now, the story ends here, everything's good, everyone is happy. Alien 3? There is no Alien 3.
During that hearing at the start when he said that no criminal charges would be saught towards Ripley. It was basically "shut up,stay quiet, and you'll still get your pension".....
why do all the movies you watch have a bunch of deleted scenes? What version do you watch?
Just an FYI, if you look up the deleted scenes you can watch what happened to Burke. It's a scene imo should have been left in because it's satisfying and continues the theme of Ripley being the better person.
This is my favorite movie. Too bad they never ever made another one
the best pure action film of all time.
Alien and Aliens created a lot of the tropes that are now predictable in scifi/horror but this franchise did it for the first time.
This is how you create a strong female character. She doesn't have to have super powers and be OP from the get go. She is a competent and sharp woman who relies on her wit and has a strong motivation as a mother. Her female perspective compliments the marines instead of mocking them for being toxic males. This is a perfect movie
Amazing movie
The terraformers didn't even get a signal from the xenomorph ship because the beacon in the ship was shut down by Marlo and his crew between the Alien and Aliens in the Alien Isolation game.
Prometheus is apart of the Alien movies too. I liked it, but some don't care for it much. You guy's should react to it.
the Robotloader Scene is my fav. in the whole Movie
Il vous reste à voir Alien3 de d fincher. Ça c'est la version longue de Aliens (2)
The alien movies are connected in the same universe as The bladerunner movies... kinda.
Alien is one of the best suspenceful scary movies of all time. Lets see young ladies how you fare with this movie...lol
There is no link to your Patreon here.
This is one of the few sequels which surpass the original. Near perfect film imo. I just love Ripley, she's so human and scared and just doing what she has to survive.
1 & 2 are the best. If you skip the rest you're not missing much.
I watch this reaction just to see these 2 lovely woman react to what we teenagers saw in those times. They are about to discover the ultimate female hero mother E. Ripley ❤❤
Fun fact the horror video game Alien Isolation takes place in between Alien and Aliens and you play as Ellen ripley's daughter Amanda Ripley trying to find out what happend to her mother. Its a really good game
