    Nice to see a reviewer that does not try to destroy a tailgate just to prove that there is no dampening. I would say your reviews are up there with the best. Thank you !!!!

      That's exactly what I was thinking 😂 They slam the tailgate and then they say proudly : if you want dampening better get that F-150😎. Like no...the point of this truck is being budget friendly.

    Great comprehensive & detailed review. I enjoy your video reviews. I ordered the Lariat FX4 & loaded it up with all the goodies!! As a previous owner of F150's & Rangers, now that I'm retired I really dont need a full size truck so the Maverick fills my needs!!

    The A\C turning on right away is because since 1997 or earlier vehicles have been equipped with a cabin air filter that's paper just like the engine air filter. It holds moisture but keeps out pollen and dust and other things you don't want in the HVAC system. So the A\C will dry the air so the windows don't fog up as bad.
    My 2017 Focus allows me to turn on the HVAC system with any button press or even temperature adjustment ... but I have the dual climate control so it's all electronic control. The XLT Maverick has a single climate control, it might work differently but try pressing the A\C button to turn on the HVAC system and see if that will turn the system on without the A\C.
    I use the A\C all year long to dry the air even if it's 20°F or less

    My first tuck was a power wagon/360 auto. It had 180 hp. I did cost 4500$ at the time. But this maverick will be a much more practical all around truck
    . Better mileage more ponies, more room, probably tow more than the w100. Carries more people comfortablely too. Ford Henry would be proud of this one and the price too!

    Thank you, Sam! Great review and look forward to your hybrid review too. Almost bought a Ridgeline last year but glad I waited and put in a Maverick hybrid order instead…just want a simple, straightforward small truck with some modern stuff but nothing fancy and this really hits the spot

    Nice honest review! I always enjoy your reviews. This vehicle is built to a price and that is a great way of putting it. I think people forget, if you want something more rugged for rock crawling off-roading, you can buy a Ranger FX4 or something bigger. This truck isn't intended for that. Again, great review!!

    Just found this channel, and I really appreciate how straight forward the review is. No comparison that no one asked for, no complaints that the tailgate isn’t damped when it way .1 pounds. Really appreciate the no BS review and the best part is, it’s an actual review of just the vehicle, not the segment, not if the vehicle will succeed or fail, none of that.

    Really good review. Reference the concern with mpg and upgrade niceties. I own a 2022 Cyber Orange Maverick XLT AWD with FX4, Luxury pkg., drop-in bed and tailgate liner, sliding rear window, and a few other things. The optional Falken tires have pros and cons: Pro - better off-road grip. Con - they will drop mpg. My truck has the Perelli Scorpion tires and I get 29.9/32 mpg highway and 24/26 around town. The Luxury pkg gives you a power driver seat w/lumbar, two 12v/110 outlets, and several other niceties.

I'M SORRY, SAM, I DID NOT KNOW THAT THE HYBRID HAD AN INSIDE RELEASE; I HAD SEEN IT "POPED OPEN" ON OTHER REVIEWS, AND I JUST THOUGHT THAT'S THE WAY THEY WORKED?? ( so then, they all must work that way, and I just be the victim of "editing" ) THANKS AGAIN SAM, I ENJOY YOUR VIDS!!! CHAS ORVIS, PLAINVILLE, CT.

    HI SAM,GOOD JOB!! YOU'RE THE ONLY GUY IN SEVERAL DOZEN MAVERICK REVIEWS THAT MENTIONED THE LACK OF REAR A/C VENTS!! And did you notice if the center a/c vents were so low that they may blow cold air on your right hand when it's holding the steering wheel?? What about that damn center screen NOT BEING CENTERED over the radio knobs and center controls?? IT LOOKS GOOFY FROM HERE!! Also, although you didn't care for the gear shift knob, it could be great for me, because I'm big, 6'3" , wide, and wear size 16 shoes, and the low console should let me "flop" my right knee ( which currently bangs on all consoles ) over, because it's so low!! I also don't like the non lockable fuel door, because some bad kids could throw sand and stuff into my gas tank when I'm parked out somewhere!! BUT I LOVE 42 MPG CITY!! IT'S
    DEFINITELY A HIT FOR FORD ALREADY ( ESPECIALLY AT THAT PRICE!! ) AND I THINK THEY'RE GONNA HAVE TO MAKE A LOT MORE!! Thanks SAM!! CHAS ORVIS, PLAINVILLE, CT.

    Great review. I've watched a lot of video reviews before ordering mine. You are the 1st I've seen to report a significantly lower MPG than the the EPA estimate. If you did any significant miles on the dirt trails, that would lower the efficiency for sure.....but most people I've seen that tested on road reported consistently closer to EPA estimates.

    Great review and by far one of the most innovative new offerings from Ford in a very long time. Two disappointments for me: it seems (where I live anyway) you can't get the max tow option with the FX4/235 tires and the lack of any manual shifting is also quite lacking on a vehicle capable of towing. The rated fuel economy is surely with the 225 A/S tires so I am expecting a drop there with the FX4 package but it would also be nicer of a little better.

    @6:54 a climate control defaulting to A/C is good design. Some owners hardly use A/C and a lack of use can cause issues with compressors (think of grease or oil settling to the lower areas of a unit failing to lubricant the unit).

      I had a 1994 Chev Silverado pickup and it had hard plastic everywhere, including the dash, center console and door panels. It lasted well though, until I finally sold it when it was 24 years old. (And I believe the plastics in 1994 were not as good and UV resistant as the new vehicles now.)

    • @citizenjoevotes
      @citizenjoevotes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. My 1998 Wrangler had hard plastics that were in near perfect shape after 17 years of abuse. They were a selling point for the Maverick and , honestly, look better than some soft materials because Ford did such a good job with them.

    In terms of the climate system, defaulting to AC does not necessarily mean cold air. It's just kicking the air compressor on to make the air in the truck dryer

    • @TestDrivenTV
      @TestDrivenTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It means cold air when it comes out of the vents before the vehicle warms up. Point is, AC is on when you did not choose it to be (regardless of how warm you have the temperature set), every time you start the car. It's annoying. One extra thing you have to do pre-flight every time you get in, like turning off the auto start-stop system.

    It's odd that the Honda Ridgeline, a unibody constructed truck like the Maverick, gets such a bad lip game because it is a unibody but the Maverick and new Santa Cruz get raving reviews. The Honda Ridgeline is still more practical, reliable, more comfortable and much more versatile than the Maverick or Santa Cruz. Go figure.

    • @TestDrivenTV
      @TestDrivenTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Size and price point pit the RIdgeline against mid-size trucks to which people will automatically measure it against. Maverick and Santa Cruz are much smaller and less expensive, thus the unibody characteristic is not seen as a "difference" from the norm.

      @@jaredbaratono897 Yeah. I have a wife, baby and hopefully another baby soon. So I just need something economical, roomy but not obnoxiously so, nice but not overly nice, a bed to put camping gear and bicycles in, as well as a bed that will handle the occasional washing machine and such for rental properties and home life. It’s an excellent choice, but needs tweaking in the seat area and a slight upgrade in technology. Especially if I’m paying $38,000 for the top of the line model. No excuses for why it can’t be premium and updated with top of the line tech features at the price point of the equivalent of almost two base Mavericks. I think I’ll hold off and see about a AWD hybrid model with wireless CarPlay. (Hopefully The newest sync model for the super high price.)

      @@RobustArid379 From what I've seen for Maverick news in the last few days, and as KB2020 said, Ford this week has released the Hybrid Mavericks for shipping this month for customer deliveries beginning in January (although a few may sneak into customer hands at the end of December). Early hybrid orders from June/July/August likely generally will be built first. My ,assumption is that my October order (like you) will be built a couple months later in March or April. Since Ford already filled their 2022 model year production capacity of hybrid Mavericks, they closed the 2022 model year order books in mid-November for hybrid Mavericks, and anybody who did not get their orders in yet will have to wait until next summer to order a 2023 model year Maverick hybrid.

      For the money the maverick is going to be a sweet spot for alot of people who don't need that extra capability. I was thinking the same thing comparing to what else you could buy for that $30k that this maverick costs. For another $4k you could get a nice ranger fx4 but it would be a super cab vs 4 door. You could get a bronco sport badlands for that extra money too. But if you don't have extra money to throw at it this is going to be as good as it gets value wise.

      Maybe we could just have a twist knob on the steering column instead of that huge steering wheel, or maybe a thumb lever on the console instead of that clumsy brake pedal. It's about intuitive haptic controls that work, over cost savings (which is what the twist knob is all about). Interestingly, Ford published a huge press release celebrating they kept the shift lever in the new 2023 Ford Ranger because "customers asked for it".
