    Ford Maverick: All the truck 90% of people actually need. Most people don't tow or don't tow something truly heavy so 4,000 max tow is fine. All wheel drive gets most people to that cabin in the woods or the campgrounds they like. Most people don't off-road on anything worse than a forest road or two track.
    I loved my old Ranger, but this has twice the doors, twice the power, twice the drive wheels, adjusted for inflation is almost the same price, and still gets better mileage. Next time I'm shopping for a new vehicle the Ford Maverick is on the short list.

      @jakes5530 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I’d agree except about the towing. For people who do tow regularly, boats and travel trailers make up a huge percentage. The majority of boats/rvs are over 4000 lbs, and even for ones that are lighter than that, the aerodynamics of towing such a physically large bulky thing behind the Maverick’s tiny footprint by comparison would make me uneasy. It’s unwise to argue with physics.

    • @jameswitte5676
      @jameswitte5676 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I disagree, I think it’s meets 95% of what pickups actually get used. But if you tow regularly this is not the truck for you. If I can’t open and close a 4.5’ un-damped tailgate, then it’s time to put me out to pasture.

      @@jakes5530 if someone has a trailer/boat/camper over 4,000 lbs then they have a dozen other choices for buying a truck. No one vehicle is perfect, but if many people are being honest with themselves the Maverick fits their needs perfectly. Why pay for capability they'll never use?

    To me the dampening tailgate is nice but no big deal especially on a small tailgate. Having grown up when no trucks had that feature I know how to open one up without letting it slam down. I see it on many reviews to make a point that a tailgate isn't damped so they just open it and let it slam down and it bugs me. If someone did that to my personal truck there would be repercussions. lol

    It's funning reading the comments on what modifications need to be made in order for it to be more truck like. It's like people buying keyboard cases and a mouse for their iPad to try to make it more laptop like lol. That's not what the original intent was in the design. If you want a proper truck you have to pay up. I have a hybrid Lariat on order and I have no illusions of it being a real truck. It's going to be a kid hauler with better gas mileage and reliability than our 2017 CR-V. The Tacoma may be more durable than this Maverick but if you are using it as a DD the price difference plus the fuel efficiency in the Maverick will make it come out on top. Plus I don't know if you saw the news where Toyota has started allowing previously rated substandard parts to be ok for for assembly. That can't be good for reliability. I have a feeling my wife is going to be volunteered to haul a lot of stuff since the RAV4 and CR-V don't have a bed lol. The Maverick was introduced as the entry model as they no longer will be making sedans and they knocked it out of the park. Truck like utility with great fuel economy priced cheaper than a Civic. People on a budget now have an option besides the standard econo boxes.

    Don't need the tailgate damper on a tailgate this size, height, and weight. Bigger and heavier tailgates need them, but then again I don't just let my tailgate drop like you did in the video. Sometimes the dampers are a bit slow to open, which can be annoying too. The most annoying thing Ford missed on this truck for me is a split rear seat. You have to fold the hold seat up, so I can't have someone sitting in the back and fold up the other side for extra storage space.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those dampers are very slow to open, and when its cold, they're even slower....in the summer they get to the point where the tailgate just drops anyways. Just another thing to fail, and not something needed...if you can't open a tailgate you don't need a truck.

      Agree on the back seat not being split, missed opportunity for ford there, but who knows, maybe some company will address that in the aftermarket or maybe possibly ford comes out with it later and it would be as simple as swapping out the bottom portion of the seat off a newer model with the split rear seat

    IMO the Mavericks tailgate is light enough to not need a damper unless you have a shoulder injury or something. Even the full size pickups built today pretty light unless you get the fancy tailgates GM and Dodge are offering and those are powered anyways. Now my old '98 F-150 really could have used one 😄

    • @wildbill23c

      There's no reason for dampened tailgates period, if you ain't got the muscle to operate a tailgate you don't need a truck to begin with, as you don't have the muscle to load or unload anything from the bed of the truck in the first place. My 08 Tundra had it, I hated it, slow ass thing to open....my F250 tailgate will fall as fast as I let it, no waiting for those nonsense dampers to lower it for you. Same goes for those stupid power open and close tailgates, just more nonsense crap to go wrong.

    Additionally, some of the transmission internals appear to be different between non-4k towing vehicles and those with 4k towing. One would expect more durable materials accounts for that due to expected loads. I discovered that after another review mentioned the 4k having a beefier transmission, and had to evaluate the parts catalogue myself to determine if there was in fact differences. Yes, other than an additional external cooler, some internals are also different part numbers for all 4K towing models.

    The Maverick should be offered with the 2.3 270/320 sounds better for this segment. Just like now the Ranger has the 2.3 and 2.7 V6. If your going to tow then the 2.3 in the Maverick would work best. This truck and the Ranger are what most pickup truck buyers actually use their truck for. The F-150 and higher is for heavier towing and work hauling duties. I prefer a large truck like the F-250 but I'm a truck driver lol. But I get the need for trucks like these. Most of the trucks today are overkill for what people normally use their trucks for and now they cost insainly high. In a time where fuel economy and low maintenance cost is paramount for most people the Maverick is a great pick. Hopefully it will last as long as a full-sized truck typically does.

  • @erniearruda8861
    @erniearruda8861 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dampened tail gate, can take it or leave it. But what would be better is a dual opening tailgate, that’s the ticket what consumers want.Nowadays that’s what’s more important on trucks and the manufacturers should make it more standard on the business end. A lot easier to get your load in and out without straining yourself.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lower the tailgate and unload whatever it is that's in the truck bed, can't get any easier than that, why do you want something that swings sideways into the aisleway of a parking lot?
      What would be much better is to put truck heights back down to actual work truck heights so you don't need a damn ladder to load and unload them.

      @@wildbill23c you’re not wrong. Currently the Maverick is really the only pickup on the market where you can easily access the bed from the sides. Even the ridgeline, santa cruz, and every other midsize truck is way too tall to do so.
