Is there a new 12v King?

  • For a long time, Milwaukee's M12 has been the undisputed king of the 12v arena. With competitive tools in just about every segment, it's not surprise. But DeWALT updated their 12v lineup a few years ago and continue to expand it. In this video we examine the 12v hammer drill offerings and look to see who is the current king. But even if DeWALT wins... will it stay that way with next months Gen 3 Hammer Drill release from Milwaukee?

    I just picked up the Milwaukee M12 impact driver hammer & drill combo from Home Depot. It came with the bag the charger and two batteries. Plus they were running a promo so I got a third battery and the whole shebang was $179 delivered to my door. Now for me although I have a full shop at my house, I’m mostly tinkering around as a DIY Guy. With that said, every now and again I do some pretty big projects on cars motorcycles etc. and I’ve never had any issues with the Milwaukee. I think at this point between Milwaukee, DeWalt, Rigid I guess you could throw Makita in the mix, ( and then of course Ryobi which always gets a bad rap. Lol) if you’re a DIY person I think it just comes down to personal preference. This is just my opinion. Stay safe out there😉

      It's gotten to the point that most of the major brands have pretty decent offerings. While my preference is more on the Milwaukee or Dewalt side of things I know for a fact you still get the job done quite well without spending on top tier tools.

    Using a Milwaukee M12 4 amp or 6 amp battery will yield better test results for the M12 Fuel Hammer Drill! I would never run my M12 Hammer Drill with a 2 amp battery, especially for more extreme tests!

    Not to sound like a Milwaukee fanboy, but I do wonder whether the grip on the M12 line is purposely designed to give max control for most hand sizes or at the mercy of all stem-type batteries. I love the grip of Dewalt and Makita, but does a more comfortable grip always mean better control. As you said, 12volts tools are becoming more powerful, thus requiring two-handed operation like some of the side-handles you see in the 18v line. I gave myself a black eye when drilling a large bit into steel and it locked up and smacked the handle into my face. Before Milwaukee launched the M12 line leading to a multi-million dollar, long-term commitment to battery size, you got to think they must have asked the question, " dude, is the handle too thick"? So the question is, if not really bracing for it and you get a wrist-breaker, would a thicker tool handle give the user a little more control? Think of a thicker rubber padded screwdriver vs. those old Stanleys with just a small hard handle.

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know that more control is necessarily why the DEWALT grip gets praise but more so the comfort of using it.

But for reference, ive built computers, repaired hvac, changed engine oil, swapped stator and regulator on a mc among many other things exclusively with 7,2v tools. I have no idea why these doesnt seem to be a thing in the vest but in Asia they seem to be really popular going for 20 years or so now.
