I’m new to the hobby. I got the Granite a few weeks ago. Aside from the body, everything is in excellent shape. I’ve taken to skate parks, mud, grass, and pavement. I’ve tumbled, cartwheeled, lawn darted, and hit immovable objects. I can’t recommend this enough for a first big boy pants RC!
It's definitely a good and easy conversion to change the a arms on the granite to the bigger ones from the big Rock or Typhon 3s. That's what I did with my v2 Granite and it handles corners better. Also changed out my tires to some Duratrax 2.8 MTs. They are a bit smaller than the dboots that come on the granite. But way better traction.
Yes, Great comparison! I do wish they had roof sliders included. They are 2 of the best trucks you can get, I feel. I recommend shoe glue and drywall tape for the bodies. That is something any RC will benefit from. Great video.
*FIRST TIP* Definitely underspray your body in black or gunmetal....the flat black is on the OUTSIDE of the truck. So if you roll it the scratches and scrapes are show all the way thru the body shell. 😕
@@cjboots1115 The tape and glue are to protect the shell from breaking- It actually stiffens up the whole ride also (which is a good thing). Good tip to darken (coat) the underside too, to protect the body from the sun showing through the scratches on the skid plate/bottom, which are bound to shine through, shrug. They won't really hurt anything, but it doesn't help the appearance, wink.
For a new guy getting into the hobby, would you suggest the big rock or granite? I currently have an ECX torment ( its POS), which I'll be giving to my teenager. I am looking for an all-around fun truck for myself and an activity to do with my sons. But to be honest, I am more partial to the big rock primarily based on its looks...
Yes I was wondering same thing on tire swap with the granite tires on the big rock & if they even fit... thought I saw the granite wheels are 2.2/3.0...great videos!!
Moving the rear driveshafts to the front? Didn't think it was possible assuming how they are "specifically labeled" 🤔 I also added black fortress MTs to mine right out the box.... the handling is perfect. Definitely more controlled (especially in the turns) doesn't wheelie as much and you actually can get some "BRCC drift action" going on. 😁👍🏾Lol

Jaytee have you had any issues with the ESC on either of these? My big rock has started to do an odd stutter from a dead stop. Works fine from a roll. Was running fine on Sunday, but last night I changed the punch to 4 and it started doing the stutter. Changed back to 3 ok punch and still doing the stutter. Going to try calling horizon today if it still does it today. Running 2 and 3S 5400 70C lipos. Like I said had been running fine until yesterday with those batteries.
Thank you for the video! I have the granite about to get the big rock. Question please?? Are the parts compatible from big rock to granite? I can't find metal sliders anywhere for the back end of my granite
JayTee can I ask if you have ever converted either the Granite or Big Rock from 14mm hexes to 17mm hexes using the Arrma Typhon 3s BLX parts? I'm considering doing it on my V2 Big Rock at the moment and it seems all I need to replace is the axles in the end of the drive shafts and add the hubs, pins, screws and wheel hubs from the Typhon. I think this is the kind of upgrade you might do on your models and seems like it offers better wheel and tyre options for the Big Rock while using Arrma stock parts. Thanks sir.
@@cacanjacowans540 I have just fitted HR adapters on the Big Rock already but on the first run out the front left locking barrel unscrewed, the wheel came off and I lost the pin and the outer wheel bearing so wondering about sticking with Arrma stock parts as I own the Typhon 3s BLX already and have never had a wheel come off that car.
@@ALexD-ck5fi both are good. the typhon is best between the two. Big rocks going to be faster and can run a little bit better off road but between those two I like typhon better
I've had my granite about three weeks now... What a disappointment. No oil in shocks, spur gear stripped on first run from the motor coming loose from its "adjustable" motor plate, pinion gear broke on next run. My unit does run hotter than my Kraton (not sure of actual temp, but too hot to touch) and drive shaft on rear broke yesterday. I have yet to be able to even run a full pack through it. Its been on the work bench more than 90% of the time since I received it.
@@JayTeeRC upgrades are coming sooner than I planned. It is a good truck, just suffering from some poor assembly issues. I upgraded esc to the BLX 120 runs way cooler now.
Don't give up on it yet bro! I bought Serpent 811te RTR last month (1st 1/8th scale truggy) and had few issues out of box---too much red loctite on wheel hexes. Caused jammed wheel nuts when changing wheels/tires for another basher MT set I bought; resulted in 3 bent cvds. Then my front & rear diffs stripped out after 1st full bash. Older, non-shimmed V1 gears were in there. Shimmed V1 gears are in center diff and performs very smooth. Serpent America mailed out 4x cvds (free) but I had to buy new diff gears. Updated V2 gears (require no shims & have deeper tooth design) now all diffs are very smooth. Heavier oils 50/300/30 she runs BEASTLY!! ARRMA sells legit, probably the best RTRs in all of RC....
I'm new to RC Trucks and I've ran those exact batts back to back checking the heat of the motor and it felt luke warm on a 60* day. As far as power goes it's not too fast it just can't keep the front tires on the ground, but makes for some badass 100' wheelies.
If it's a V3 - 3S batteries SHOULD run fine without presenting a heat issue. The mah doesn't really matter (it just has to physicallly fit) just the voltage: 2S are 7.4vdc and 3S are 11.1 vdc. Heat is mostly caused by current flow, but motors are really only designed to run at certain voltages without overheating (of course, without proper cooling, the longer it runs, the hotter it gets) THAT'S where mah comes in...
Depends who you talk to, some say the Big Rock has 12mm hex's and some say it has 14mm hex's. At Amazon it says take the M4 adaptor (which is actually 7mm with a nylon locker). Anyway, since they both take the same adaptors, the Granite tires SHOULD fit on the Big Rock (as long as both are "stock"...), shrug...

No you can order a solid blue body, that is made for the Big Rock.
Think the Outcast 4s shell will fit the big rock?
I’m thinking a big rock v3 with granite v3 wheels and a Outcast 4s shell
🤔
I think the outcast shell will fit the granite cause of the wheelbase is longer on the big rock.
