FansToys Trailbreaker: Established adult, has spending money, single, active. Takara Trailbreaker: Spouse, mortgage, 3 kids, 2 car payments, over 40 years old.
@@beatrixwickson8477 I would reckon that the XTB is the fresh empty nester, all the kids are grown and have moved out, house & car payments are done. Leaving the MMC as the cranky old grandpa type who's ready for the nursing home.
Every time you interact with your children and I hear them laugh, I get a goofy grin. I love that. When I hear that, the rest of your comparison becomes background noise.
This one is very interesting. Even though Takara wins points wise, Fans Toys wins where it counts: Build, Materials, Hardware, Sculpt, and Presence. Of the 4 options we have, I honestly don't feel like any of them knock it out of the park, but the Fans Toys definitely is the best in terms of quality (my opinion of course). For reference I own all of them except the XTB, but I have handled it. At the end of the day FT is going in my bot mode display, Takara is going in my alt mode display, and OM is going on the chopping block.
Takara wins in transformation, alt mode, accuracy and price, which can very well be what really counts for someone else. I have the FT Outrider and like it, but without bias, I can see why Takara Trailbreaker won this vs.
While FT makes some of the best looking and solid- built figures, I just don't like their approach because of the transformation. To me, if the transformation is not fluent, it's just a former figure, not a transformer figure.
@jkliao648 I was thinking about that when Bobby talked about the alt mode and how even tho FT uses better materials and just feesl better the transformation process isn't fun or easy (this goes for other companies also). So, in order for FT to accomplish the firmness and good quality feel, the figure loses articulation and how fluent the transformation is. In the end, FT will continue doing what appeals to their target market.
I like both of these options and have them both. I typically try to keep my collection to Fans Toys and Official with the exception of characters neither have done yet. Between these two figures, I like my FT better but I do appreciate Takara.
XTB filled that spot for me for silver Trailbreaker and silver Hoist, and I don't see any reason to waffle, now. Onward and upward with the collection...
@@Scro10m no im not I'm aloud to like what I Iike not everyone has to like the same company I seen some who like the takara one over the other 3 and I think its the worse myself
Very accurate VS again Bobby...I have both XTB and FTs, but TT is putting up a great fight here. The Perfect TB would be TT Alt mode and frontal chest with XTBs portions and FTs build and paint. In the end all 3 are winners here, it may just come down to price.
It'll come down to how much toon accuracies plays into it. I got the X-transbots Aegis over Fans Toys because I thought it looked better in both modes. Fans Toys wins aesthetically but, it's the worst of the 3 when it comes to accuracies. Having said that, I prefer build quality and paint over toon accuracies hence X-transbots Aegis won. I would had gotten Fans Toys but, given that I have Aegis, I went with Takara Tomy's version for the alt mode.
It's a shame Bobby's output will become more exclusive. He's the smartest and coolest TF reviewer on YT. But times are too tough to be spending money on Patreon.
We all have to decide how we spend our money, but Bobby’s $5 Tier (which includes sit-down Saturdays and a ton of other review content) amounts to only $1.15 per week. It’s an incredible value. Hell, I’m in the $10 tier and I feel like I’m ripping Bobby off!
I wish something is done about the inflation soon. Or else the only people that will find it affordable is the rich corporates. Even though this affects everyone. But not in the most positive sense.
I think this comparison's about as fair as fair gets. I'm not blown away with any of the Trailbreaker options, but I still find it amusing that we've got five moulds and none of them are a home run (though I'm aware people would have you believe otherwise, especially for Takara's). I still haven't bought a Trailbreaker but now that they're all out, I'm going to get Outrider... but XTB's toy version is getting reissued with the mould improvements, so I might pick that up too just to compare. I agree that Outrider just looks better overall. The only time I like dumpy proportions are for characters like Seaspray and Cosmos, and sometimes Brawn.
That is funny, that there have been 5 moulds and not one homerun. I have Outrider, and the only thing I would dock a point for is the fact that if I mess with him for a while, like doing a lot of dynamic poses, his ankles will get lose. Luckily there is a screw to tighten them, but it's still inexcusable. (In fact, my Apache had loose ankles, but no screw!). For me, without this issue, I would classify Outrider as a homerun for Fans Toys. Enjoyable transformation, great build, and looks awesome. If it wasn't for those darn ankles. ...And still, I love this figure.
I feel similarly, none does it for me as "the best", each has their cool things, at one point I was going with the Ocular Max, but then I say the color difference on the parts and that ruined it for me.
Like you have said, it's interesting that none of the figures look exactly like the reference material. FT is definitely doing their thing with the more heroic look and I'm almost tempted to get it over the Takara. However, the two little squares on the chest that don't seem to do anything kills the look of the figure for me. I know there are less forgivable angles on the Takara, but when it's the front of the figure, I can't let go of it. Also, the tolerance issues reported on the FT going into alt mode is the nail in the coffin for me. I'll probably end up getting the TT, but this has been one of, if not the most, competitive figures in the space and it has been really interesting seeing how it turned out.
The FT has better heroic proportions but Takara actually looks pretty darn good side by side with FT. Yeah FT comes with an extra face but it's a wasted face since it's almost the same as the other extra face. Am i the only one that doesn't mind when a figure isn't 100% painted? FT always kills it on paint but very often it seems that paint chips or transfers while posing or transforming.
It will be really interesting to see how Takara differentiates their Hoist release from Trailbreaker, when they get around to doing Hoist. Aside from the obvious different head, and tow truck parts, I would imagine a proper screen-accurate version would be shorter and fatter, with rounded forearms and cylindrical legs. It would be nice if Hoist got the much-needed different robot parts that Hasbro didn't give him during Earthrise.
Man. Ya know, it’s like… I’m good with my vintage, blue, “Trailbreaker” that I got at Hook’s Drugstore back in like ‘83-‘84. So, that settles it, I like the OG toy design over any Sunbow/Marvel design.
I haven't been so impressed with any of the car bots that Fans Toys have released so far, Mirage, Trailbreaker and Jazz. TE Mirage, X-Transbots Trailbreaker and Maketoys Jazz were all good releases.
I'll keep my FansToys for robot mode because he just looks better and my Ocular Max for alt mode because he was my first and I'm not about to spend more money on another Trailbreaker. 😁
I like the transformation of Outrider (and Hitch). For a Fanstoys figure it is simple and intuitive. I could call myself a FT collector as much as a 3rd Party collector. I have some MMC, Iron Factory, Make Toys, Toyworld, DX9 and XTB, but FansToys just comes closest to delivering what I want, and as a result they account for half of my MP collection. The premium feel, and the expertly balanced mix of toy and cartoon look are just what I desire. The transformations can be a bitch, but I haven't transformed most of my FTs more than once or twice anyway. Unlike my abused childhood G1s, I repose my 3P figures gently and seldom. They are treasures to be coveted.
It’s not just HIDING THE FIGURES that’s the problem… The strip itself just destroys the aesthetic … The shelf has to be treated like 2 separate displays or it just looks dumb … IN MY OPINION
One of the big things that I don't understand with Takara builds is why they don't go for the chrome/metallic and rubber wheels? If you are going to make the chrome grill and get the official brand licencing why not spend the little extra wheels?
Whoo. Didn't think this was gonna be as close. I stunt really have a dog in this fight, but if I had to pick one, I would've gone with the Fans Toys. That mid section and that glossy paint makes the Takara look weird and cheap.
Crazy... personally the bot mode I like FT over all... but I think both Tak and XTB have a better alt mode...and then there is the muted toon color :/ So many ways someone could prefer one over another with all 3. Another bot on the shelf, no matter what I pick they could potentially be a place holder but... good enough to make me happy.
Glad I waited for the Fanstoys Trailbreaker, to me he just looks better than the rest. Glad I didn’t wait on hoist and got the xtb. It’s nice takara went fairly reasonable on the price, but I’m glad not to give them my $ as I don’t feel they haven’t had a real quality and reasonably priced release since sunstreaker.
I actually prefer toon accuracy to a fault. This video helped convince me that the Takara is the one I want. I love Fans Toys quality, but their excessive use of die cast just for weight tends to result in chipped paint. I want to be able to transform it without worrying about chipping paint. The greater articulation, more accessories and most of all, toon accuracy wins me over. Fans Toys has also done toon accuracy to a fault before, their Huffer, and that is a great figure. That superior alt mode really nails it, too. I really dislike how Fans Toys will use a combination of both translucent and painted windows, it looks super cheap. FT Trailbreaker does indeed have better and more heroic proportions, but it just doesn't look like the character in the toon. I refuse to believe that X-Transbots can make a figure that doesn't break itself in under 5 transformations (I got burned on Drag Strip and Kup). Not sure how they would win anything regarding materials and build quality. If not for their upcoming exclusive figures, I don't see how they even stay in business. The notion that XTB and FT are competing in the same arena is a bit of a joke.
The worst thing about Takara favoring screen accuracy here is that it sticks out like a sore thumb compared to literally almost *_EVERY OTHER TOY_* of Trailbreaker (and by extension, Hoist), INCLUDING the recent mainline Hoist & Trailbreaker duo released in Earthrise. Like I said I still think that FT's still 1 of the better looking Hoists out there. I'm just not that impressed with a lot of the more current figs that Takara has put out.
Honestly they both have irritating things IMO. I hate the gigantic kangaroo pouch the FT version has with the windshield being so far back from the hood, but I hate the Tak version's profile look with how messy it is as well as the odd proportions... I hate the Takara version's little nozzle thing because there's just plastic on the extended part instead of chrome like the rest of it, but I dislike the FT's more simplistic look (which lets face it both are guilty of)... I know the Fans Toys one is easily better in terms of hardware and materials, but honestly I think either the Bad Cube or XTB version is the definitive version of the character.
You’re 100% correct. My bad on that. I definitely recorded a separate bit for that but must have used the wrong clip in post. Good catch. Surprised you’re the only one that caught it lol
Intersting result. I wouldn't buy the Takara if it was the only option as I don't like the way it looks, the head sculpt is awful and toon accuracy is not my thing. The way the sides and back look is terrible, and this continued approach from them that makes me rate it as a weak effort. I don't want a figure that can only look good head on.

It's a shame BS is moving more stuff over to pay places. I get it, Good Luck to you and wishing you well and prosperity.
It's a shame as you will be missing me, one of the Legion that made you who are today through patronage over the formative years.
The BIGGEST problem with all these pay places, is that they are designed to force you, the consumer to choose a very narrow bandwidth.
Still plenty for free. But if people don’t value it at one dollar a week, I’m forced to ask how much they value it at all.
You could not be further from correct on this one. I pay for a lot of monthly streaming services and for the $10/month I choose to spend on the top tier for his Patreon, it’s legit the best value for entertainment and content that I consume per month. The most consistent quantity AND quality on a Patreon I’ve ever seen.

It's ok, you can feel that way. Each to their own, everyone has an opinion.
I, and especially BS, appreciates yoru passion in defending him.
Good for you.
Everyone seems to have their hand out these days.
You like it, you pay for it.
Just don't forget BS, is a business person and is looking to increase his profit.
That's how a Free Market Economy works.
But also, don't forget , he makes money right here as well, maybe not as much, but he does, and it's Free for you to peruse as you see fit.
At the end of the day, if you, the consumer sees Value in it, then you win.
However, you couldn't be closer to wrong than you already are ;)
Thanks for the reply.
Everything he said is pretty accurate. Fwiw. I put a ton of effort in over there. Posting everyday. Sometimes multiple times a day. A fair amount of the content over there is over 2 hours long. Etc.

I really dislike the official. I never envisioned Trailbreaker as a tall lanky basketball player. I always saw him as a tall, strong, athletic build -More football or boxer physique. FT destroys the official except for altmode.
He is more a linebacker that plays for the Chicago Bears
Love my ft tb, will check out TT mp tb laterz
