If there's one thing I don't like about the look of the FansToys figure, it's that the chest looks too flat. Even in the animation model, we can see some three-dimensional detailing, and I think the BadCube figure just does that piece a little bit better.
I'm getting the FansToys one just because of the legs and because I never got the BadCube one, but it's honestly quite impressive how well the BadCube one holds up. It's certainly not something I'd recommend swapping for most people. I'd probably give it gimmicks too since it has the removable tape in the chest. If BadCube could improve their engineering (and their feet), I think they'd have some much better figures, but as it is, it seems they're finished aside from some reissues. A shame, because I think they had some good ideas. 100% agreed on that person who commented on the metallic paint though. I saw that. At least don't take that away from us, FansToys.
Uncle Skelly…just constantly reigning as most consistent and prolific content provider for toys, collectibles, discussions and podcasts. Best dollar for dollar patreon available for the amount of content you get practically everyday.
I agree 100% with the outcome. FT is definitely an upgrade. But... BadCube's went down honorably. It is still a great figure and will go down in 3rd party history as so. I just got my FT Gears, but my BadCube will be repurposed for an original 18 in alt modes display. Along with MP-10, MP-21, BadCube's Brawny, MakeToys Downbeat, Ocular Max's Sphynx, etc, etc. All great figures that were replaced by other great figures that were just more updated. I'm hoping that FansToys keeps doing the minibots. They are doing a great job with them. I hope they tackle Bumblebee, Windcharger, Cosmos, Tailgate and even Wheelie at some point.
While it is a slaughter I think this is a case for the numbers don't tell the whole story. Some equally scored Vs scenarios make the upgrade for owners of one to the other a sure thing while I don't think anyone who owns badcube has any need to upgrade. The losses are minor in each category and both toys do a great hob of representing the toy. So unless one is a huge Gears fan and already owns the older toy then upgrading is simply not necissary.
I won’t be swapping out my bad cube as he was one of my first 3rd party figures I ever bought and I love him to this day. That being said I definitely get he’s certainly out of date comparatively. Still I’ve got a soft spot for him.
That they made distinctly different models/transformations for the identical toy molds (swerve/gears & pipes/huffer) is such an incredible flex over a more efficient, albeit lazy, repaint. I could just imagine that discussion in R&D: “which will we go with? Why not both?”
I'm not disagreeing that it's cool, but aren't they supposed to be simple repaints with maybe minor changes. Like Ironhide and Ratchet are basically identical with different personalities and paint jobs. I always viewed it like the seekers. They're essentially the same design with different tweeks. Of course it doesn't HAVE to be that way. I just don't see following that blueprint as "lazy" either.
11:37 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 You still crack me up. You are right though about the metallic paint. IDK why I prefer matte paints, but I cannot deny that the metallics from FT hit hard.
I think the way FT is somehow able to get the thighs, legs, and feet to have almost no seams and show almost none of the engineering beneath is what really helps push them above the competition usually. It just looks so much cleaner and like the characters we know and love.
Its more interesting as a showpiece on where MP has come from and to for me. Its a fair score, FT just makes too many incremental improvements, lots of little wins gives it a big win overall. Should be some good deals on the BC on 2nd hand market
Off-topic: are you going to review the new MMC Proditor Nimbus (Doubledealer) and compare it to Double Agent B? I've seen some reviews of Nimbus but yours are usually so bluntly honest about it, I'd really be interested in hearing what you think.
I got the Badcube to swap out my SXS which is probably the worst 3P figure I own. Would like to get FT for bot mode but I just hate the alt mode. So I'll be keeping Badcube for that either way.
Ditto. FT is objectively better in 'bot mode, but I prefer realism in my alt. modes and the FT alt. is just plain terrible. Bobby mentioned that he likes to see vehicle parts in 'bot mode, and I like that too; however, the reverse is not the same... I hate seeing 'bot parts on alt. modes. Apart from the janky proportions at the front, Variator from the half-way point is clearly just a pair of folded up legs. I'l take Grumps less clean legs and feet all day long if I get a nice, clean(ish), realistic vehicle mode out of it.
Haha actually no bullshit, it’s from some of the podcasts we’ve been doing on patreon. We’ve been going to some emotional places and enough people have lost it, where I have to keep them down there now. Some of the most important shit I’ve ever done man.
Good VS. It went about as I expected. To me, Gears is such an ugly character design to begin with, I will save my money for a better character and keep Badcube. I don't feel like paying $130 to put lipstick on a pig.
The Fanstoys is phenomenal, I just don't see justifying the switch for my Bad Cube one for a 120 bucks or more.
I picked him up on sale for $90 so that was a great deal for me. I was surprised he was still available as he was sold out at most sites.
This one was over before it even began, geez.

Totally agree, I love Gears, but the FT is just a bit too expensive to switch it for my Bad Cube one.
Badcube has the face rotation gimmick that wouldn't have changed a darn thing, but I thought I would throw it out there.
Since it does change the results of a category (assuming it is counted as a gimmick) I feel it is worth bringing up.
Best Badcube is STILL the sideswipe!
Because it's that good, or because the lack of competition for the character? I'm being sincere as I've considered picking it up about 100 times.
@@GibDozer1 I've owned it for many years now and have no regrets. I really like him and he fits in with mp so well
Not that it makes a difference in the points but the face on the badcube flips around

I definitely think the FT is better. I will be keeping Grump too though. It's just not worth it to swap out, it's just Gears. One and done.

Thank you for the review! This one is hard for me because they are so close. I have them both in hand but wasn't sure.

Agreed, if I came across a deal I might jump on it
I like Kong on the toilet. Give him some a box of matches to hold.

excellent comparison. can't wait to get Variator.

I knew I would be switching out my Badcube but I couldn’t have predicted this slaughter.
I just got my notification for FT Gears today. Cliffjumper's on preorder.
Now we just need Windcharger! The most overlooked G1 Autobot!
Absolutely Perfect Vs...
Awesome analysis 😊
💯 Metallic paint and design should BE the Gold Standard when it comes to all MP bots… I’m paying for quality not meh.

I actually like SXS alt mode better than FT, but yeah that toy... I'll stick with Grump. FT is better, but at the end of the day it's just Gears.
Good to see Ft for the win! Though Ft no longer in there glory days.
If we consider which one belongs in your trash can, the badcube definitely gets the win.😅😂
I wouldn’t call the additional faces for the FT a win cuz all the faces including the stock one look really off and bad to me.
He didn't say FEEEET!!
so, uhhh...what're the tissues there for? Bobby Tissueface ;)

The same person who didn’t like metallic paint also likes black wheels on their car 😂 js boring 🥱 people
What is wrong with black rims though?
