I literally have an entire section of my thesis dedicated to him and his guerrilla warfare strategies
Real Star Wars fan right here.
The Twilek resistance were a lot more capable than people realize.
There's a reason the empire had to send thrawn
Cham really got some well needed expansion of his character during the bad batch and rebels. Not to mention Numa, everyone’s favorite kid turned freedom fighter. I love how Dave Filoni built on some of these one of characters, and really gave them personality.
Agreed.
Filoni is a decent master at using all the tools in his toolbox with his characters. More writers really should be like that.
too bad he couldnt do the same with the Ahsoka series
Wait,
Isn't numa that little twelex kid waxer and boil saved?
@@theromanorder yes
@@theromanorder Yes sir, the very one.
I remember when in the Rebels series where Hera was talking to her father about being part of bigger whole she was speaking with her Twi'liek accent which meant she was very emotional at the time. And it was an awesome moment that showed her character.
I'm spanish and in that scene Hera talked normally. Intresting to know that
@@amn0940---Really I didn't know at all. Thanks for commenting.
@@amn0940---I once saw a video about the types of accents various species in SW were speaking. And it seems that the Twi'liek mostly speak with a French accent. Although throughout most of the Rebels series Hera doesn't have her accent. So it really meant something when she spoke in her accent to her father at that moment.
Scary thought, an adult Jacen Syndulla; with his mother's piloting talent, grand father's tactical mind, both their stubbornness, and his human father's Force potential. All of this in a man who (somehow) survives Ben Solo's purging of Luke's academy. Imagine him hooking up for adventures with Rey, after co-piloting The Ghost with his aging mother at the Battle of Exegol.
Finally some regonition for Cham Syndulla! A caracther who I have long wanted fans to give more attention to.
I love Cham syndulla he is a very good leader who cares about his people home planet and his family he is a true leader l will definitely fellow him
I’d Argue that there’s something he REALLY shoulda known all along.
That being: YOU DON’T DESTROY SOMETHING YOU CAN USE UNLESS YOU ARE FORCED TO.
He shoulda recognized that the Empire is a threat to everyone and they were stronger together. The rebels needed everything they could get. They DIDN’T Need sabatage from people they should be working with.
"Sacrifice is a noble thing to do, but it becomes far less admirable when innocent children are made to suffer in the name of a good cause."
This is why I subscribed.
The issue with focusing on a single planet is that the Empire spans the majority of known inhabited space.
If they decide that your planet is too much a problem, they have the ability to blockade it and then bombard you from orbit until you stop being a problem, so backstabbing the Rebel Alliance is kind of ridiculous.
It's interesting how he had bigger picture than many of the earth's heroes, but still much smaller than average Star Wars hero.
Because they're all fiction
“Chad” Syndulla or no?
Missed Golden Opportunity to use:Sith it to the man! Oh well maybe next time.
The novel lords of the sith is amazing and shows him and his methodology
The Twilek's resistance saw everything the CIS threw at them and really said ''cowabunga it is then''
Cham's Resistance movement is like the equivalent to the Yugoslavia Resistance, but with a mix of American Revolutionary War type of attitude.
They are more like the chetniks (Serbian nationalist resistance) because he didn't think beyond Ryloth his movement was doomed to fail. His top priority is saving Ryloth and its people but in a Galactic conflict he is doomed to fail without working together with other resistance groups. The yugoslav partisans on the other hand operated in all of yugoslavia and accepted Serbs, Bosniaks, Croats and even Italian/Bulgarian/Romanian defectors making them much more efficient in the long run.
You either die a hero or live & be a villain.
I mean if you’re gonna be constantly fighting for your freedom from brutal regimes then you gotta be a little brutal. War is a messy business and asymmetric warfare even more so.
Cham got off lucky, one thing cant recall Saw ever doing was DELIBERATELY selling out his loved ones that he shoulda been Hell bent on trying to protect most AND ABOVE all else
Chan Syndulla would have gotten absolutely SMOKED by the Senate.
People like him are in my opinion why thrawn in canon is more of a hero then a villain. He tries his best to serve his people, but he doesnt want any innocents to get hurt and cares for other species a lot aswell. We can see how much he tries to not harm innocents in rebels, if you really pay attention, and in "his" books. On the other hand we see how rebels terroristically attack imperial institutions no matzer how many civillians it housed. Obviously i understand what made cham like this, but thrawn as a person got dealt worse and took it anyways.
Cham was indeed a cold MFer, but that's exactly what Ryloth needed at the time.
The last stand is one of the most emotional scenes of the whole season, maybe one for the series, and it’s not that long
Riddle me this: is sacrifice truly worth it if your family and friends have to suffer for your crusade?
Loads better than Orn Free Taa. He actually did something.
Even if cham had succeeded in liberating ryloth, the empire wouldn't just leave the planet alone, considering the planet's resources and the imperials practicing slave labor. The empire would have returned to ryloth eventually, still at least the twi'lek fighters and cham would keep fighting.
When Tarkin made his codex, he pointed out that most people react to an ISD's sheer size with fear rather than thinking logically on how to take it down.
Cham Syndulla is not most people.
You are being too harsh. Chan Syndulla was a man who had a lot of responsibility and expectations put onto his shoulders. The fact that he only wanted to fight for his home world and the fact that he spent a lot of time away from his family is the result of this.
Now that the war ended until the First Order arrived, will Cham attempted to compensate about how he treated Hera by spoiling his grandson, Jacen?
P.S: Cham Syndulla most likely will be completely okay with the Rumbling on the galactic scale if it means Ryloth is safe.
I would say he is a figure worthy of more than usual criticism, but I’d also say that he’s a figure of more than usual tragedy. His cultural background and losses make it clear to me at least that he had difficulty seeing anything but the fight. Like a man bent on revenge.
Now this is thw Star Wars ppl want to watch. Not all that preaching for politics
The galaxy underestimated the Twi’lek race.
If his plan had worked I wonder about the timeline of operation cinder or if it was even set up at the time
"Why Luthen was Actually a lot Colder than MF's realise" When?
I’d love to see a video like this one about Saw
Chad Syndulla
“Thanks to plot amour”
Everytime I swear
Hard to blame Cham for only fighting for his people. The Twi-Leks got screwed repeatedly throughout SW history.
In the novel Lords of the Sith he doesn't come across as very likeable. There's a huge contrast between how he's represented in the cartoons. I get the show is supposed to be kid friendly but the guy is, in the novels COLD
Pretty sick how the Empire is still using V-Wings during Cham's Vulture Droid assault in 14 BBY
On an unrelated note: why can't there be some consistency in how Twilek ears look? I guess I'll have to look into this...
Female ears always looked different from the male.
I don’t think Cham is worse than Saw. We all know that Saw never gave a damn about anyone or anything if it meant dealing any kind of blow to the Empire. He’d willingly target a civilian populace numbering in the hundreds to hit an Imperial target behind them. Men, women, children, elderly. Didn’t matter. If you were in Saw’s way, you died. Cham at least recognized the difference between valid military targets and civilian ones. He would be willing to sacrifice those who actually fought in the struggle for freedom and independence but never threw away the lives of those who didn’t.
I'm not mad at Cham people act like the Galaxy was in a big rush to help Ryloth they were already being enslaved by the Hutt before the Empire was even thought of
how much do you want to bet that Orn Free Taa's sellout might have impacted some of Cham's choices
Some glorious lore
I think you're being a little too hard on Cham, he isn't as bad as Saw. Saw killed innocent civilians in firefights with the Empire, seeing them as nothing but collateral damage, as we know Cham never killed innocents, he mainly focused on Imperials and tried his best to protect his troops and people because he cared about his planet and wanted his people to stop suffering. Not to mention as seen in Rebels Cham was at least willing to compromise with others and try to be better, whereas Saw only got worse and worse with how he acted. I'd follow someone like Cham into battle, Saw, there aren't enough credits in the galaxy to make me follow that lunatic.
Also, to partially defend Cham only wanting to help Ryloth, it's his home, and if the Rebels weren't going to help it quick enough and just let it suffer then he'd do it himself. We saw this with Ezra in season 4 of Rebels, his planet was suffering, but the Rebels weren't helping it, so he did it himself, you'd think after how a big help Ezra was to the Rebels, what with him being a Jedi and thus playing a pretty decent role in many operations, they would pay their debate and help him, but no. Luckily, he had friends who understood loyalty, honor, and paying one's debts, even Hondo helped him, a pirate helped him more than the Rebels who were supposed to be all about helping and freedom. There's an even worse example of this, the New Republic not helping Kashyyyk so Han and Chewbacca went to find smugglers on Maz's cantine to help them free the planet instead. Han and Chewbacca played an even bigger role in the fighting the Empire than Ezra, they were instrumental in the defeat of the Empire, and you'd think the New Republic would want to repay them by helping Chewbacca's follow Wookies on Kashyyyk, especially since the Wookies themselves played a decent role in stopping the Empire with their continued resistance, as well as helping other survivors like the Bad Batch and surviving Jedi who would go on to play even bigger roles in fighting the Empire.
Also, let's not forget how close Cham came to killing Palpatine. I believe the Lore Master went into great detail on everything Cham sicked on the Sith. Palpatine, Vader, and two Royal Guards(top tier ones mind you, one of which was somewhat Force Sensitive) came under heavy attack, including by vicious beast that Cham sicked on them, by the end of it all while Palpatine himself was pretty much fine because he's Palpatine, one Royal Guard was dead, and the other one, as well as Vader, were decently injured, Palpatine had to take an active role in the fight and if he didn't that other Guard would have died too and maybe Vader as well, or at least been so injured they could have captured him. The fact that Cham came up with a plan that manged to push some of the best Royal Guards and Vader tat far, is impressive.
I dont blame him if more people cared about only there home like him even in real life we would all be better off
4:36 Well it was more like Gobi and like 5 other people resisted for literally no reason, Rampart turned up and was being a little shit and Orn Free Taa kept calling everyone a terrorist.
Hera didn't leave for nothing
The real issue was the Republic, not the Empire. Had the Empire not been blinded by the Republic remnants like Free Taa and listened to Governor Syndulla then things would have gone better. Gobi is also to blame since his resistance work (which he had 0 justification for resistance) gave Free Taa evidence that he used against Syndulla.
Cham Syndulla may have been a hero, but he was also a monster. It didn't matter if you surrender or if you were unarmed-he and his resistance fighters will kill you regardless. Even your in a job like sanitation, engineering, medicine, communications, scientist or other jobs with little to no combat action, the rebels will kill you without hesitation. If I want to liberate a planet, I'd rather live as a slave than become a monster in the name of freedom.
Only thing I never liked about Cham’s story is that they retconned Hera to be his daughter. In season one he had a kid, but it wasn’t her it was an orange Twi’lik. That and I believe the name was different. Only thing that’s jarring watching TCW then watching bad batch
I swear at one point in Rebels it's mentioned that Hera had a brother or sister who died very young, and that nobody wants to talk about... could be the orange kid from TCW?
@@captain_hammer if so then I guess that works out, however the fact she isn’t mentioned again in Bad batch is questionable at best😂
this title
It seem like fre ta died in that attack
👍
250th like!👍
Awesome video!🤘
This sounds like the only bad thing hes done is not show his daughter 100% support/attention which honestly is the problem were having in real life were told to support everything its nonsense
He lost a son as well
Your video showed me how much of a jerk Cham can be and I thank you for that. He's still an interesting character to watch, but not the most respectable man in the galaxy. You also show me that even when he appeared to be redeemable, his previous actions can't always be justified.
Who's worse Cham Syndulla or Saw Gurrera?
I Guess I dont vote for him in 2024 "I Ain't Baq"?
Honestly that’s reasonable, you can’t help every species in the galaxy. Might as well focus on your own.
Wow Im early this time
Your being harsh on him if he would have helped the republic and help it Win against the empire, if he then wanted the republic to help him free his people of enslavement the republic would say no. The republic is as corrupt as Orn Free Taa. Just like how they denied help to find EZRA and not worry about Thrawn and many other things I imagine that I don’t now of. He sacrificed himself save his people because no one els would never do that. And that’s why people are to harsh on Cham Syndulla.
I actually like the guy for some reason, even if he's an Alt-universe exclusive whose existence violates how Ryloth should work due to prior Legends works.
Not a huge fan of his daughter, though. Terrible space warfare strategists who do more harm to good causes and murderers of X-Wing first flight hype are not good people in my perspective.
I think you’re being too harsh honestly. Cham is basically made this way because of the constant warfare with the Hutts, CIS and finally the Empire. Nobody is perfect and especially a man who is constantly fighting an enemy to protect his homeland.
There waddling mounts I always knew they were a joke
