Whats so maddening is that Baije had accepted his banishment and had moved on to be with his human wife. He didnt cause a fuss despite not being in the wrong. The Jade Emperor was cheating with the Celestial Goddess and got mad he got found out. Baije could have been left to live out his life in peace but no, those jerks added insult to injury and turned him into a pig Guai and ruined the happiness he found. I was so hurt for him. Even his relationship with Chang'e was doomed because they would have never known peace.
You are wrong, Baije doesnt have power like Píngtiān Dàshèng (Ox King) or Wukong (Monkey King). Even them died under The Empyrean. He had to accept his fate, he always knows his love is waiting, but return means he can harm his beloved (Chang'e). He loves them but he can't do anything.

Zhu Bajie finds out that the Jade Emperor is having an affair with the goddess of the moon and the Jade Emperor, in order to hide his affair, banishes Zhu Bajie into the mortal realm. Seeing this, Chang'e willingly gives up her godhood to be with her lover and gets sent to the mortal realm and transformed as a yaogai (spider). After Zhu Bajie was banished to the mortal realm, he wakes up in Gao Village and sees Gao Cuilan (a different person; she is not Chang’e). He chases after her thinking that she is his lover (Chang'e) but after seeing his true form as a pig, Gao Cuilan gets freaked out and he runs away in tears. This is not Chang'e as she would recognize Zhu Bajie immediately. Fast forward a bit, to the cave/hot spring scene (this is during the Journey to the West). He comes across some spider yaoguais taking a bath. He turns into a catfish so he can get a better look at the ladies (yes, in the novel he is kind of a pervert). He swims towards the spider lady (Chang'e) who immediately recognizes the catfish as Zhu Bajie. The Violet Spider's afraid that Bajie cannot recognize her in her each reincarnation, she put on the same make up in her every life, so Bajie won't forget her.

You are wrong, Baije doesnt have power like Píngtiān Dàshèng (Ox King) or Wukong (Monkey King). Even them died under The Empyrean.

In the game's plot, Cheng'e was also a witness to that adultery (notice the first several backgrounds in her face shots are the same as when BaJie was busted). Their relationship is doomed not because they witness the scandal, though. BaJie refuses to acknowledge their relationship because once he did, she would become his weakness, whom the Celestial Court would use/hurt to threaten him into deference (just like how they use the Ox's wife & child, or how they use WuKong's fellow monkey kins).
For those looking for some clarification for the cutscene,
Zhu Bajie was originally a Grand Marshall of the celestial court. He admired the white-haired lady (goddess of the moon) and chased after her. He bumps into a maid-in-waiting (Chang'e) and she falls in love with Zhu Bajie. Zhu Bajie finds out that the Jade Emperor is having an affair with the goddess of the moon and the Jade Emperor, in order to hide his affair, banishes Zhu Bajie into the mortal realm. Seeing this, Chang'e willingly gives up her godhood to be with her lover and gets sent to the mortal realm and transformed as a yaogai (spider).
After Zhu Bajie was banished to the mortal realm, he wakes up in Gao Village and sees Gao Cuilan (a different person; she is not Chang’e). He chases after her thinking that she is his lover (Chang'e) but after seeing his true form as a pig, Gao Cuilan gets freaked out and he runs away in tears. This is not Chang'e as she would recognize Zhu Bajie immediately.
Fast forward a bit, to the cave/hot spring scene (this is during the Journey to the West). He comes across some spider yaoguais taking a bath. He turns into a catfish so he can get a better look at the ladies (yes, in the novel he is kind of a pervert). He swims towards the spider lady (Chang'e) who immediately recognizes the catfish as Zhu Bajie. The two reunite as lovers, however the Jade Emperor has decreed that their love always be destined to end in heartbreak (Zhu Bajie was sentenced to 1,000 lifetimes of love tragedies).

Gods are there to do their jobs, and mortals care about whether they do their jobs well. And beside, Journey to the West and Investiture to the Gods shows some of the gods personalities long before western mythology influence China. It is just unlike western mytholology where the whims of Gods is above all, in Chinese mythology even Gods are bounded by rules and are forced to behave in a certain ways. Most story then talks about either the gods' corruption or how being god is shit.

If there is ever a sequel or dlc, I hope they face retribution. Where's Kratos when you need him.

A little fact
The reason why Chang'e reincarnated as a spider is because she overheard other girls in the Heaven said Bajie has become "a pig" (一只猪), and she thought they mean "a spider" (一蜘蛛) since they sound exactly the same, so she decided to reincarnate as a spider to be like him as well.
Though, it fit well with the ideal couple model in the old China, husband to tend the fiend (Bajie and his rake), the wife at home weaving clothes (Chang'e and the threads)

For those who don't know, Bajie was originally the Tianpeng General of Heaven and just because he harassed Chang'e {a metaphor for the Moon God} and Jieguo was found out by the Jade Emperor and was demoted to the mortal world. He had bad luck and was reincarnated as a pig.

The story reminded me of my ex... We loved each other but due to different religions I had to let her go knowing that if she was with me our life would be filled with more challenges. I left...with a heavy heart while her parents arranged a marriage for her. Her last words to me where if we ever get reincarnated pls be my husband in the next life... Even though we love each other she could never fulfil my needs...I was suffering silently, I'm just glad that she is happy.
