The secret ending is actually the true ending: Sun Wukong was playing a big game against the celestial court. In the prologue, he loses the battle because of the Buddha's headband, which means the chain that holds him, like a dog on a leash. He cannot rip it off by himself, not in this life. But with his death and his mortal flesh gone, someone, the destined one years later, will carry on his will and live a life without the headband, a true “immortality” life.(That’s why he said to Yang Jian before he died: watch me rip it off”)
I understand why many players have difficulty comprehending the story endings since many hints were hidden in the character descriptions and dialogue throughout the game. During this journey, along with the Destined One, players will witness many examples of how it will end for yaoguais’ kind when they try to defy the Celestial Court. They either be consumed by their twisted desire because of failing on trying to help others or being punished or threatened by the Celestial Court until they have nothing left but a broken family. Is this what the Gods and Buddha proclaimed “immortality “? It's more like a life of eternal suffering.
Yang Jian himself hates the court as well as what the Jade emperor had done to his mother. He cherishes the freedom that Wukong had and thus, able to help Wukong to make this "big game" happen (help by killing his flesh at opening and sending YaoGuais to challenge/test the destined ones). That's why Yang Jian said he knows he (Wukong) will win this battle (against the court).

To quell his chaos in the mortal realm, The Heavenly Court decide to keep him close under their watch, and give him a low-ranking post in Heaven as Chief Horse Groomer, however, to satisfy his ego, they lied to him about his rank, calling this position lofty. Learning of their lies, Wukong takes great offense to them, and unleashes his wrath upon Heaven (the infamous "Havoc across the Heavens"), fighting and defeating many gods. He is eventually subdued only by the Buddha, and for his crimes, gets imprisoned under a mountain for 500 years. Black Myth Wukong adds here a bit that wasn't in the original story: during these 500 years, everyone who allied with Wukong during his havoc have been punished, those are the Yaoguai Kings we see in the true ending flashback where he's drinking with them in his Water Curtain Cave. Which is why so many of his old comrades, like the Bull Demon King, feel embittered towards him. Wukong is offered a chance to repent by Bodhisattva Guanyin: his crimes will be forgiven if he serves as a bodyguard for Tang Sanzang, a monk going on a pilgrimage from China to India to bring back the sacred Buddhist scriptures. He accepts the offer, and to make sure he won't shirk his duty and rebel again, a golden band is placed upon his head, which would cause him great pain if its chant is spoken. Wukong and the Tang Monk go on a long, arduous journey full of adventures, and even add two more repenting pilgrims to their party: Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing. They go through many trials and defeat hundreds of yaoguais seeking to eat the monk for immortality along the way, some of whom were old friends of Wukong, like the Bull Demon King. The Pilgrims succeeded in their journey and brought back the scriptures, even though some were accidentally lost along the way. For their efforts, they were rewarded high ranks in Heaven, with Wukong even being granted Buddhahood as "The Victorious Fighting Buddha", and removed the golden headband. However, in this retelling of Black Myth Wukong, this was all another ruse from Heaven: The headband was never actually removed, only concealed, and the Buddhahood title was only given to Wukong to placate him yet again, like when they named him Chief Horse Groomer. Heaven never trusted Wukong, in spite of his immense growth and change of heart during the journey. To escape Heaven's control once and for all, Wukong devises a plan with his sworn brother Erlang Shen, and the guidance of the next Buddha Maitreya: He would "fake" his death in a second, staged rebellion against Heaven, and his remains would be divvied up into five relics, to be given to five Yaoguai Kings of Erlang's choosing. One day, the sixth relic, his Mind, would reincarnate as a monkey of his homeland Mount Huaguo, and come to reclaim the five relics should he be worthy, so that he may reborn anew, without the golden headband controlling him. As for the bad ending, the Destined One here fails to properly reincarnate as Sun Wukong, as he has not reclaimed the latter's memories and experiences from Erlang in the Great Pagoda, becoming another Stone Monkey to be defeated by a different, future Destined One to come along and repeat the cycle, and hopefully, reincarnate properly. This is why no animation is played, as we don't have Wukong's memories for viewing.

The final boss was a cycle, a test if you become the Real Wukong. The 5 relics are like 5 horcruxes, each contains a part of Wukong’s soul, which shattered as he died. However in Chinese-Buddhism, one’s soul should have 6 pieces, the sixth and biggest part of Wukong’s soul fell into the circle of life, and was reborn as the Destined One. In the Bad Ending, the Destined One, (who hasn't done all of the side quests) doesn't possess Wukong's memories or 6th piece, that's why he does not wake after the fight because he is an incomplete vessel, 5 relics without the 6th piece or the mind. (you will hear the sigh of the old monkey as he proceeds to put the crown back, repeating the cycle for another Destined One to beat YOU as the final boss, the empty vessel). Now, in the Good Ending, the Destined One, (who has done all of the side quests, especially when you received Wukong's memories through Erlang's 3rd eye) has awakened the Wukong inside of him and receives all of relics as he now completes the 6 pieces of Wukong's soul (with the 6th piece or the mind), making you, 100% reincarnation of Wukong.

However in Chinese-Buddhism, one’s soul should have 6 pieces, the sixth and biggest part of Wukong’s soul fell into the circle of life, and was reborn as the Destined One. The Destined One is the last Horcrux of Wukong. When the Destined One collects and absorbs all 5 relics, his soul will be 100% Wukong’s soul, he will literally become Wukong on earth. Bad ending: You did not finish all side quests, you did not learn enough about him, you, and the world. So you failed to awake the Wukong within you. You die, and the circle of life will bring the next Destined One to success Wukong’s will. Good ending: You finished all side quests, successfully merged Wukong’s soul and synchronized. He is awake. The ending animate, the Journey to the West runs backward, meaning all the memories of Wukong are coming back to your head. You were Wukong in your last life, he intentionally died so he can get rid of the binding circlet that stuck on his head. Now, you are him, you finally remember who you were, and your purpose. Now, what will you do?
@@ethanedward01 i mean lich is not a new concept. For example classic Slavic folk tales have "Koschey the immortal" who's death is hidden on the island in the far seas, inside the chest that hangs on a giant oak, inside the chest is a hare that will try to run away, inside the hare is a duck that will try to fly away. inside the duck is and egg. Inside the egg is a needle, Inside that needle is a death of Koschey (you need to break the needle for Koschey to die/become mortal. which is literally a phylactery/Horcrux)
I’m confused yeah I beat Erlang and got the secret ending but I heard to get the true ending yu need to beat the game 3 times to max out the all the relics?
In the true ending, the destined one is truly Wukong with the Firey Golden Star Eyes which he had got when imprisoned in Bagua Furnace of The Supreme Fairy Old Man before getting Buddha's punishment and assisting Tang Monk in his journey. In other words, Wukong is resurrected in the true ending, fulfilling his wish to completely break free from Celestial Court and Buddha's control.
I just realized this: Each ending has a different end credit song that is thematically appropriate. Bad Ending: Where Lies the Path Ahead? True Ending: Unfinished
For those who do not get why the normal ending is the bad ending it cause the golden filet controls wukong from doing anything bad or without the courts permission so the destined one wearing it will prevent for doing stuff he wants if he does something bad when the golden fillet activities it will become more tightened and make his head hurt which is why wukong lost to Erlang at the beginning of the game cause the golden filet

The true Journey to the West is the journey of oneself, journey to becoming a better person, self-improvement and moral integrity. In the end, the mischievous monkey achieved true freedom and immortality, not by means of defying Gods or cheating death by various mischievous means, but by enduring his punishment for his past actions and embracing the dharma, becoming a better version of himself. He is Wukong Reincarnation... without hus memories. The memories return and he declines to wear the headband.... The cartoon symbolism of his memories return backward.... Start from the last day he lost his memories.
Yes. The Destined One gains Wukong's memories, which means he now has all 6 pieces of Wukong's soul in him. These memories likely include knowledge of all of Wukong's spells too. However, it's not clear that he gained Wukong's immortality, since that mostly came from consuming peaches and pills.
so the true ending is when the Destined One is finally free, something Wukong didn't achieve because of that crown and will now what? hunt down the other deities of the court as an act of revenger?

I’m so mad I don’t know what I could have missed I went out of my way to do everything 😢

😢I hate TH-cam bgm copyright.
You have a choice! That’s why bajie says “you don’t have to do this! You can run away!” In the bad ending where you basically choose to be once again imprisoned to the headband
but why the "real ending" is so hidden? you literally have to look this up
@@grossartus if you explore well enough you don’t gotta look it up lol. I found the great pagoda in chapter 3 and figured it would mean something more, especially when I couldn’t for the life of me find a secret area in that chapter
I just came back to the great pagoda after every chapter and eventually it let me in to fight erlang 🤷 also it’s hidden, because each secret area is clueing you in, and leading you towards Erlang, when you defeat erlang, you get ALL of wukong’s memories, almost 100% reincarnating wukong, except now he can choose not to be imprisoned by the headband
The Old Sun Wukong is dead and with his reincarnation he became a better one - achieved Buddahood. Whether you are sound for Buddhism and its teachings, the lesson from the story is about the follies of humanity and the strive for becoming a better person. :)
So basically this game was about Wukong trying to reincarnate himself as many times as it took until he was reincarnated fully???
No, reincarnation will always happen until Wukong breaks the cycle of Samsara and reaches enlightenment. The true ending he does this.

In the true ending, when fighting Erlang, Wukong's successor realizes about the headband... and when Old Monkey wants to wear it to Wukong's successor... he realizes that the headband is a restraint. So a flashback appears during the journey and at the end Wukong prepares to live freely once again without a headband. the essence of this game is freedom... and it will continue in the next game. will wukong live free? Or will the gods interfere with his life once again? or wukong challange the heaven once again, because heaven kill wukong friend ? u can see this ending in youtube

If you are a devout buddhist / daoist, then it's a "good" thing that he puts on the crown to stop him from doing harmful things. If you aren't, then he has every right of "freedom" away from their control as it is to live his life peacefully under the Flower and Fruit Mountain. It's all about perspective.

Yes. The Destined One gains Wukong's memories, which means he now has all 6 pieces of Wukong's soul in him. These memories likely include knowledge of all of Wukong's spells too. However, it's not clear that he gained Wukong's immortality, since that mostly came from consuming peaches and pills.

I do not like the ending in which Sun Wu kong actually died, that is, his Mind really died. For bad ending it's pretty simple. Just keep going straight for main bosses in each chapter. Don't do any secret areas nothing.
NG + is just a new game with all the armors, spirits, skills (you got in first run) unlocked from the start. Eveything else is same except bosses are a bit buffed up now.
