I was here when fruit roll ups were first introduced and still, nobody ever said to freeze them. I can't imagine that sharp shards of candy piercing my tongue and the roof of my mouth would taste any better than the same thing only safe to eat.

Meh, teeth issues truly are more genetics than anything. I've never had a cavity, but ate tons of candy and sweets as a child without brushing my teeth barely at all. Compare that to both my brother and sister who've had a cavity in almost every tooth despite brushing with special prescription toothpaste and flossing twice a day. I eat better today and brush/use mouthwash much more, but its still not close to enough to explain my perfect tooth health. Besides, it takes months or years of bad habit to wear down a healthy enamel layer from just sweets...

It works but it is excruciating to get it to work because of how long you have to have it pressed on your tongue and not eat it. Honestly I got it once but decided after that to never even try again because I'd rather just eat the candy and not sit there for 3 minutes tasting something I can't eat yet lol.
Another problem with the tattoos is having the right conditions in your mouth. Too little saliva? Won't melt the candy enough to stick. Too much saliva? Washes away the tattoo instantly. Some tongues also just aren't as easily dyed. Plenty of people can drink a blue slushie without stopping and have no coloration on their tongue.
