Hearing the wonder in William Shatner's words while others are celebrating as if it's a bachelorette really makes you realize that he's the only one who really gets what this experience means for humanity as a whole and confirms that in his heart he really is our Captain Kirk! It's a shame we could barely hear him as the others were screaming and laughing so much.

@@raven4k998 Thats not how spaceflight works. They shot them rather straight up. Everything that goes up is gonna be pulled back by gravity. Your ship would be way more expensive if it was to stay up longer. You would need way more fuel to bring it into Low Earth Orbit (>200km), where a circle takes ~100 mins.
@@sodaaccount not necessarily they just have to burn a little longer so they went a little further up not enough to break away from earth's gravity but more to get longer hang time up there what a little larger fuel tank capacity

He's so absolutely lost for words and so overwhelmed by his experience that he simply can't find the words to describe it. I was gobsmacked to learn that he's 90yrs old, I genuinely thought he was in his early 70s'. Seeing him experiencing this, along with his other crew members, genuinely brought a tear to my eye. After 60 years of being the leader of one of the world's greatest space stories he made it to space. His words brought tears to my eyes and can't imagine a better person to go. The spirit of Kirk truly lives inside shatner.

Blue Origin should have installed Kirk's Captain's chair in that capsule. That would have been epic. And Shatner's comments after touchdown were heartfelt and very moving. He's a good man.

he's got his weekly educational show at RT America channel. He'd appreciate more viewers. Not too many people are aware he's still active.
He just made it sound so much more of a life defining moment then any other individual who takes part in this. His expression was more of a life changing one then any of the other people; with more of a party kind of reaction.
It's probably because some of them have gone up there before in test flights. I am sure the first time is always very emotionally moving as well as exciting.
That was a beautiful human moment at the end of the video. Brought tears to my eyes.

He's doing awfully well physically and mentally for his age! He might be able to live to be 110 if he's doing this well at 90!

I have always thought that when Shatner stepped through the hatch, somebody should have called out, "Admiral on the bridge!" You really have to admire William Shatner. I was so glad William Shatner made it into outer space. For decades, he portrayed a character within Hollywood's outer space, but this time he finally got the opportunity to travel into real outer space ... the final frontier.

Kind of says something about the kind of people they are. It was an almost spiritual moment for Shatner looking at space and then seeing the fragility of life. While the extremely rich were screaming and partying on. As if that was just another toy they have access to for fun. He was just awe struck looking out the window. Mr. Shatner gets it and proves he truly deserved being Captain Kirk.
Calling civilians astronauts is a slap in the face to decades of REAL astronauts who spend years studying math, various sciences and aeronautics to become one. Enough is enough!

During the flight Shatner became concerned when at about 50,000 feet they ran into some severe turbulence. Shatner kind of panic for a moment at yelled, "RED ALART, SHIELDS UP!"

Shatner, as Captain Kirk, has connected fiction with reality and whether he realizes it or not, with this flight, he has brought us all along with the crew of the Enterprise, like he said then and exemplifies now, "Risk is are business, it's why we are aboard her." Couple things to keep in mind. Their booster always has a shakey landing and their capsule landing is very hard. 15mph is like a fit person running at full speed and than coming to an immediate stop with a wall.
Blue Origin is like getting a 70 grade. 1 point away from failing.
Not quite that bad since they're sitting in reclined seats on suspension and there are landing rockets that fire right before touching down greatly reducing impact.
Hi. The landing looks quite a bit more rough than it is. There is a jet of air blown out of the capsule right before landing that kicks up all of the dust, and the actual landing speed is like 2-3 MPH as you ride in on a cushion of air. It's fairly similar to a hovercraft or air table for vibration isolation.
@@jareddbh unfortunately it doesn't look like those air jets fire before landing. I know they are supposed to be there but both landings have looked very rough. I know on the first launch, there was a lot of question about if they were used.

How is the booster able to touch down gently but the capsule (holding more valuable cargo ie the astronauts) slams down to the ground? Seems priorities are backwards

Even as a space enthusiast, I care very little about Blue Origin and New Shepard. However, hearing about how much this launch meant to William Shatner suddenly made me interested, though only for a short time. I'm very happy for him.
Why? That booster landing was amazing. Didn't realize we had anything that could do that already. Plus, I didn't know the capsule would touch down on land.

Since we are talking about emotional moments, I would guess that he also felt utter fear realizing the vastness of space and its own size compared to the cosmos. Probably he visually experienced the fragility of own existence.
