    Nice explanation with animation. It will be very helpful for college student studying basic electronics. Though the actual phone charger first converts low frequency ie. 50Hz to high frequency (in kHz) in order to reduce transformer size and increasing converter efficiency.

    Prefect.
    The input voltage to households is 230V instead of 240V.
    Although filteration is provided by Capacitor from the full wave bridge rectifier, we need Voltage regulation to bring it to 4.7V to 5.O V for charger to charge a device.

  • @Godi001
    @Godi001 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Modern chargers or all phone chargers don't use this topology. They use SMPS. Transformers are not to step down the 50hz or 60hz AC in the phone chargers (The suggested topology in the video will meet the requirement but is not the most efficient way to do it. Also size of transformer is bulky if we use 50hz or 60hz). Transformers in chargers are actually used in series to the switching element in fly back converters. Transformers serve both the purpose of isolation, stepping down and energy storage in these type of converters.🙂

    That coil is merely a coil and not step down transformer. The voltage conversion from 230 to 5 is done by switching action and so the mobile charger is nothing but switched mode power supply (SMPS). Anyway this is the first technical mistake I m observing from lmes till date and hope u l correct it in future

    • @electroboyIND
      @electroboyIND 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      exactly. and 230v to 5v conversion with transformer has gone a decade ago they are called Linear Power supply. Right Now cell phone chargers use SMPS. And You told its a "COIL", even you are wrong : its a fly-back transformer.

    Mobile charger not using AC to AC and DC ( 230AC 5VAC and 5V DC). This method of charge is very old technique. If using then the charger size and weight will be very high approximately 1kg to 2kg. and the voltage after bridge rectifier should be regulated to 5V by using regulator. Otherwise mobile will be bloast.
    Flyback converter is used in mobile charger and other adaptor.
    First AC voltage is converting to DC and this DC voltage (230VAC 360VDC to 5V regulated DC). is directly apply to flyback transformer and switching at very high frequency by using control unit at primary of transformer. To reduce size of transformer high frequency used. Currently 500khz to 1Mhz frequency is used to reduce transformer size. Size of the transformer Indirectly proportional to the frequency.

      Actually we can use both setup..
      For small component charge we can use without smps
      To have constabr volatge and current smps is used nowdays in cellphone charger..
      Normal bridge circuit does work but it result in fluctuation so only smps used...
      I tested in lab..
      For short term use without smps preferred.
      For long term safety smps preffered...
      I think lmes explained simple manner.. In engineering to first step they teach what lmes told no?
      Them only they covet smps...

    Name of the Charger head is also known as Converter. it contains STEP DOWN TRANSFORrMER & BRIDGE RECTIFIERS. initialy Transformer helps to step down the voltage ( say 230 to 5 volt) still the output would be A.C but we need D.C as output. So on connecting the output with bridge rectifier we will get 5V D.C as Output in the endtip USB 2.0 or 3.0 cables.

    Remembered, it was hard to understand when i was first taught about the electronics subject in School.. it made me not to follow Electronic Engineering specialization at the end of first year during the selection of field of specialization for Engineering degree.. though I know very well about these nowadays, I wished teachers should have explained the subject in such a way u have elaborated in just 5 min videos.. great channel 👍
