Hey man, I’m usually just a lurker on TH-cam never comment, please keep making more of these lore videos for the rest of the chapters. They have been super helpful in understanding what’s going on. No one else is making a no nonsense videos of the lore explanation and taking the subject matter seriously like you are, wonderful work!
Thank you! It's truly motivating to receive a comment like this. JTTW is a huge part of my childhood, so I'm really glad to see it reached such a large audience. Your support means a lot!
I love these videos, but I suggest you also check out AvenueX, a Chinese lady goes in depth on the lore of each chapter and also lots of background on the book journey to the west and its main characters
just to add to the kangjin star part: out of all 28 constellations, kangjin star is the only person who’s willing to come down to the mortal realm to help our protagonist with his task of gathering wukong’s scattered relics. she however encountered yellowbrow during her journey and was manipulated into serving him instead. i loved her character so much and this is pretty fking sad.
Yes, the game is worth 10seasons of the most well written drama series with lots of food for thought to offer. It’s extremely exciting and deeply philosophical.😊
This is the only video I've ever watched about chapter 3 that gives a detailed comparison between Sanzang and Yellowbrow along with his disguised disciples. It’s so interesting! Thanks a lot!
Great explanation. It took me several hours of research to figure out the story of chapter 2. This one video took care of all the questions I had on chapter 3. Will be coming back for chapter 4!
You know, I knew there was other meaning to the ending of chapter 3. At first, I thought it was just humans being greedy, but something was telling me that there was more to that story. Thankfully, I was right and thanks to your video, I have a much clearer understanding. Thank you. 🙏
yeah. from religion perspective, yellow brow represents heresy, wind mouse represents deviation, black bear represents secularism, spider represents 'not devoted enough i have a love life'
All of your Black Myth Wukong lore videos are fantastic! I just binge watched them all after I finished the game and I’m very excited for more lore videos on this game from you!
these videos you've been putting out really have been grabbing my attention. hope this series treats you well, i know i sure as hell have been enjoying them! o7
These videos are great! Thx so much and can't wait for the rest of the chapters. Please continue! They are top notch. I'm Chinese American myself but you really nailed a lot of stuff I wouldn't have figured out.
Keep up the good work! Though I am American I came across bits and pieces of JTTW through out my life through various media. Playing the game and watching your videos have allowed me to learn what I didn't know due to the original story being so big. Thank you good sir.
I really love the theme of this chapter: validation can lead to greed, anger and delusion. With today’s society and how it’s so focused on validation, you can see how much people crave it through greed (by applying too much ethnic and cultural diversity when it isn’t needed), anger (they cannot handle the argument against their action of over reliance of diversity so they resort to cancelling and sowing seeds of false bigotry) and delusion (the fact they claim so many false narratives and have an ego the size of Mount huaguo).
I think cultural diversity is cool only when it is genuine, but corporations and media are only feigning it for virtual signaling, popularity, and for monetary gain.
thank you so much for lore explanation. This reimagining of Black Myth Wukong's Yellowbrow is so much more evil and chilling compared to the original. I love how the creators and developers made changes but still stayed true to the JTTW lore somewhat and didn't stray too much.
regarding ending shortfilm, i saw another really good explanation - which adds on a few key points. human started out as good. thanking the god and erecting temples and devout prayers. governments form and organize proper distribution of wealth - assigning both accountants and guards for this. even when one person was tempted and pulled, guards tried to stop the frenzy, but is overwhelmed by the chaos -- this depicted weakness of man, spread of chaos, and inability to handle extreme human challenges.
Hey man ! Thanks for the video... I van finally understand the while picture! Could you please me tell me which episode of the 1986 series is the yellow brow episode so i can watch it too?
Man I’m fairly familiar with journey to the west watching the 1986 series multiple times and a lot of the other movies and tv shows reading the novel as well and there’s still plenty of things in this games themes I missed that these videos cleared up
@@Williamsweeb I love your videos and appreciate the work you put into them! If you could possibly explain how the music videos are connected to each chapter as well that would be awesome but either way they're great!
Thank you and sorry for the late reply. There are characters descriptions in English on Fandom.com which I believe they translate from a Chinese site about Black Myth Encyclopedia
in the game, press Esc, where there's a sector of background stories, every boss charactor and goon have a little piece of short story, putting up these pieces you can learn a relatively awhole story. and there's novel journey to the west, its settings are admit into black myth storyline by default
Thanks for making this video, I grew up watching that tv show you used for the lore and hardly remember the plot. Do you speak Chinese? Or how could you watch and understand such old tv show from 1980's in China? 👍
So good ! Thank you for making these videos !! I felt that the turtle Yagoai at the end was a parallel to Yellowbrow but besides the false worshipping from the villagers, i couldnt see the bigger picture that he was enticing envy and greed in their hearts - remarkable story telling
Okay, so I think I get it now. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong: I was thinking that one of the lessons learned in chapter 2 conflicted with the fox yaoguai's quest. Simply put, the overall idea is that it's understandable to not trust a yaoguai because of their nature potentially taking over. However, killing one out of fear for the unknown or potential outcome is unnecessary and wrong.
Better put more in game videos or just lore history photos and not the weird old movie, it kinda ruins everything. Apart from that amazing work and much appreciation for all the effort you put into these videos
nah, the 1986 tv show is a vital part of it that further explains the story. it’s an essential additional aid when it comes to explaining the game itself. it doesn’t ruin it, and instead adds a visual guide on what happened since it delves into the history of the bosses before they came to be in black myth wukong (which essentially places the game after the main story.)

the storytelling is now so much better than chapter 1 and 2. Amazing work. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! This means a lot.
just to add to the kangjin star part:
out of all 28 constellations, kangjin star is the only person who’s willing to come down to the mortal realm to help our protagonist with his task of gathering wukong’s scattered relics. she however encountered yellowbrow during her journey and was manipulated into serving him instead.
i loved her character so much and this is pretty fking sad.
True! The dev really embraced the meaning of "Black Myth"
wow - i didn't know that her initial intention was to aid the Destined One - really adds a layer of sadness after defeating her

I can't get over at the fact how good and how high quality this game and it's animated cutscenes are. It's insane

Are u gonna do lore on the lesser bosses like mad tiger non able monk from the sea or that fox chick ?
Thank you! I'll try to cover as much noteworthy characters as possible.
Now I realize I missed lots of areas in this chapter :(
