Very informative Lyle, I bet you have discovered a great deal more about using this lathe in the last 3 years! Thanks again and as always you got be pondering........
Just started watching your videos and saw this. I'm one of the Vets you help give lessons too, which I have learned a great deal from and re-watch them. Now I'm trying to figure out which lathe would best fit my situation. Thank you for your great instructions and enjoyed your classes at the Florida Symposium too!!
As mentioned I am a Robust distributor. I have a Q&A program I developed to help people evaluate their needs to get the right lathe. No obligation to buy Robust but the program will help sort out the benefits and features you might want to consider. At the end, you would have a better idea on what will will work for you. Give me a call to schedule the meeting time.
Nice video Lyle. I've enjoyed my AB for the last 3 years and have not regretted my purchase. I like your idea with the outlet strip and will borrow the idea if I may. Keep up the great work on the videos. .jw
+Mike Waldt Hi Mike, I dont know where you get the time to produce so many videos and comment on others and answer the comments. Thats a lot, thanks for keeping in touch
Hi Michael, thanks for the feedback. Did you see I am doing Live remote Interactive Demonstrations? See my web site for details, lylejamieson.com/product-category/live-interactive-remote-demonstrations/
Hi, Lyle. I'm still using your hollowing rig, and am getting close to pulling the trigger on an AB. The only thing I don’t like (beside the price!), is the lack of a speed readout. Why doesn’t this high end lathe come with such a basic feature?
Hi Fish, I guess you know I am a Robust distributor. I can help you when you are ready. I have an AB coming off the production line soon that could be yours. It is not expensive if you consider what you get, it is the best lathe in the world. Your information is not correct, the speed dial has a RPM indicator. Call me when you are ready to upgrade and I can make sure you get all the discounts, and features you want and need.
I like everything about the robust lathe accept the price tag is there a lathe you would recommend that's more affordable for new turners such as myself? I'm leaning towards the Laguna revo. Am I misguided? Is there a better machine for new turners?
Thanks for writing Joseph. You get what you pay for in the lathe marketplace. Check out any other 24-25 inch swing lathe and the Robust is in the same ball park on price, only it is much better, and made in USA. Lots of folks are getting the Laguna. Most will outgrow it soon and upgrade to a better lathe. It looks like a nice lathe at that price range. We will see what history says after some years of service have passed to see how they hold up. I have a Q&A program I developed to help folks find the best lathe for their needs. Give me a call and I can help you make decision on what lathe to go for.
@@Lyle thank you ill keep looking into it. Being a brand new turner on a budget is difficult and I've already outgrown one lathe. This can get spending I've looked at many more moderately priced lathes and I am sure you are correct in saying you get what you pay for, but there must be some middle ground for us new guys thank you so much for your reply there are so many of you guys here turning its like having a room full of professors to consult I really appreciate all the knowledge you folks share with us.
What is the worse case scenario? You buy a good lathe and you decide you would rather go fishing in a couple years. You can turn around and sell the lathe for close to what you paid for it. Spend more than you want, you will never be sorry.
good review but not sure this lathe garners more than double the cost of comparable lathes, some with more capability. These prices are getting crazy. I do like the built in America aspect but not for double the cost, is it truly worth it?
Hi TF, Thanks for watching. You get what you pay for with lathes. To get a lathe with only some of the features and dependability of Robust you will pay a lot more. Key word in your note "comparable". Do you really believe you get the Cadillac of lathes for half the price. I worked on Robust lathes as I traveled teaching around the country and loved it. It was not until I purchased one that I really realized how good it is. Nothing comparable. You can buy a cheaper lathe and wake up one day are see all the limits and learn to live with it. Or come see me to upgrade, or get a good lathe to begin with. I will likely see you sooner or later.
Hi Stephen thanks for showing interest and commenting on my video. Indexing is used for incremental measuring, could be for drilling, carving, embellishments, etc. An example would be drawing on a piece to carve a spiral. The indexing would allow you to measure the grid or quadrants for carving. Also, I am doing a Interactive Remote Demonstration on the 12th of June. I will be turning a Thin Walled Goblet, check out my website for details. lylejamieson.com/product-category/live-interactive-remote-demonstrations/

I don't understand the purpose of indexing.
