Difficult to tell, when you give us only the final movement. Seems this is DG’s business model: Advertise with one extract from a performance, and then wait for us to purchase the whole recording. Unethical; unfair. And, because of this, I no longer buy DG. There are plenty of excellent recordings available. Handing us just one movement is like giving a person one chapter of a book and expecting him/her to know the entire story and how “good” it is. This is an egregious sales tactic; not to be pandered to.
This is why I love Miss Hélène Grimaud: she's secret, discreet, almost erased in our social world, but she shines for the music she performs ! Her universe is classical music, and she enjoys it ! Thanks for sharing this performance.
.......and that was without a conductor....the communication between Helene and the orchestra was wonderful to behold.....a magnificent performance ....sometimes the conductor inhibits the musicians. Helene is highly underated....a wonderful pianist!
A real elegant woman never loses her charm, even when she grows old. It's not because she uses the best cosmetic technique to preserve a youthful look. It's because of her wisdom, her humanity, and the beauty emerging from her every smile and every gesture - and in this case, every note coming from her finger. Hélène Grimaud is one of such ladies.
For years I've been thinking classical music can and should be played among friends in casual attire and sitting around each other. But could never find any artist doing this. Until now. Wonderful
I was wondering about what happened to this amazing pianist. Wow what a wonderful recording. Clearly able to see how much she is enjoying playing with this orchestra.
Ni signe of this argentinian on the web. She married her photograph, got a cancer, adopted two children... In summer 22 she has lots of concerts in Germany. ....?
@@lemokolyon,….what is the source for the info you just posted? To my knowledge, Helene Grimaud has no children, did not marry her photographer companion. And finally, what Argentinian soccer player?
I have only recently discovered this piece on TH-cam. It's become my absolute favourite. It's crisp, melodic and almost jazz !! What I love about it is the way she communicates the exuberance of the piece to the orchestra who clearly react and love playing with her. The thanks and love she gives them at the end and their response is a joy.
I am no connoisseur or expert, but the joy and passion of this performance is truly uplifting, especially in these times. Sometimes I wish we could all just listen to the music, and forget about the many pretensions that seem to suffuse the world of classical music, all music, actually. Wonderful and uplifting performance from both pianist and orchestra ❤️☯️🙏
I agree entirely..... it's uplifting and sparkles. A Lot of people get so wound up over this soloists interpretation, or that persons. Listen to it for what it is, a great piece of music played by a superb soloist. She probably interpreted in style of Beethoven, as we are told, he wrote the cadenza.
Meravigliosa..
I've heard oodles of recordings of K466. Though this is just the 3rd movement, I loved the way Helene played it. With lift and effervescence. There is plenty of love in her playing. Now, I want to hear this whole recording. The Camerata Salzburg Chamber Orchestra sounds wonderful. They play it with wide-eyed enthusiasm and plenty of skill. Nice clip!
In the multitude of so much "Piano Stars" on Classical Music, she is a really Piano Artist in the deepest sense. Sensibility is a rare comodity in this days of marketing musicians...
Quelle prodigieuse artiste....
She is one of the few truly virtuous pianists of this current day even as we’re living in a golden age that eclipses the first renaissance, so there are simply “more” gifted geniuses and better media to amplify them.
Helen Grimaud is my favorite piano player of Mozart's piano concertos. Mozart's concerto No. 20 is wonderful. Also her playing of Piano Concerto No. 23: II.Adagio. I must have watched the video of her piano concerto No. 23 at least 30 times. Both the music and her playing are magnificent. So is the videography.
Dear Mrs. M° Grimaud, I have listened with great pleasure to your Mozart piano concerto nr. 20 in D minor, K.466, a wonderful interpreter you and immense Mozart. I admire you very much and for your technique and for overcoming difficulties. Congratulations and cordial and friendly wishes. Giovanni
Jesus. This is on fire. A great tempo and some really fine orchestral playing. Mozart is best when there is some real intensity. Too often it is played like people have wet dishrags for hands.
Excellent performance!!! I truly enjoy this album. Each time I return to listen to it, there is always more I hear. Absolutely gorgeous with so much heart & liveliness from Hélène & orchestra! 👏👏❤️
My beloved Hélène you are back! This is absolutely fantastic! Stay and never ever leave! Favorite Mozart Piano Concerto + favorite Pianist: what else could I ask for? Epic.
Took me a really long time to realise that the cellist looks left-handed because she's being reflected in the piano (0:54). I had all kinds of questions about the practicalities of bow collisions and thinking she must have her own desk etc.
Have for long been an admirer. Yet in such a can't-wait-get-it-all-over-with an approach here so that the Mozartian spell is lost, that am regrettably unable to compliment but her ever-impeccable technique.
Just one year ago and in the middle of COVID. Maybe she needed Mozart, a re visit with a whole set of new feelings. So many brains are rewired now (unhappily). A performance at this level deserves notice and an audience. Let us be that. Brava and many more such.
Hélène is one of my favourite contemporary pianists and I cannot decide between except when listening to them and then the one I am listening to is my favourite but both appeal because they combine intellect and passion and musicianship, and they are immersed emotionally. Of the concert platform they are both articulate, have a sense of humour and are delightful communicators about their art.
There are dozens of very good recordings of Mozart's incredibly brilliant late piano concertos... but there was only ONE Mozart... that's what's important... when I listen I don't hear Grimaud... I hear my friend Mozart who gave ME, personally a great gift for which I can never repay him. ----- to me the pianists and orchestras are reproduction machines. We're lucky there are way more than we need.
Generally I find the slow movement of a piano concerto to be the most emotionally affecting, but in the case of Mozart's No. 20 it's the third movement. I love those runs toward the end.
Always been a big fan of Helene, especially her Brahms. But her Mozart really blows me away. My go to performers for Mozart in the past were Brendel, Uchida, Kovacevich. Now after hearing Grimaud’s version of K466 and K.488, hope she can record more Mozart. K.467 and K.482 would be awesome. And especially K.491 but there for me Gould’s idiosyncratic one will always be my fave.
I apologise for adding a further comment. This is so much of a favourite. I have two favourite pianists of all time: the first is Jacques Loussier; the send is this lady. I was very lucky to hear JL play live at a concert in Worcester; I should love to be present to hear HG play - as well as Mozart as well as jazz !!
I can totally feel what she is feeling as she plays this. It's a very visceral feeling. We also have some similarities. Her mother was also always singing in the house 😂🏡
After this very long break between the recordings - what are your thoughts about Hélène Grimaud's interpretation of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20?
I love how romantically she plays classical repertoire. very appealing
All I know is that at 0:15, you can tell she was happy!
Simply sublime. Can't wait to buy the album and see her perform live again!
This is not Mozart, she's hammering the piano pure garbage.

The greatest introduction to a musical movement that I know.
I have always thought the same!!

Fantastic camera works. He understands the music and the dynamics of the play. Not to mention, foremost to Mozart and to the pianist.

What a great cadenza... splendid finger movement and optimal tempo~!! Bravissimo~ Hélène Grimaud, what a respectful pianist~!!

Thanks God, Mozart is played by one of the best female poanist. I like it so much! So intense, vivid, graceful...
Big fan. Never miss her concert when she is in town.

Helene plays Mozart so well. She amazes me!
Mozart unlocks something in her! Ive never heard her play this way!
It's fantastic as you can see that the musicians have just as much fun as the listeners!

It's an awful tempo - it sounds like fairground music!
If you listen to mozart onperiodic instruments it definitely has an epicness to it
I have wondered why sometimes I don't love Mozart. Now, I think I may know: wet dishrag hands!
What a joy to hear and see with that gorgeous smile which illuminates her colleagues!
Your happiness is pure gold. I cant wait to see you playing so vividly and passionate. True gift
Wouldn't be surprised if Mozart himself performed it that way - perfect (and the orchestra too). Well done Helene and Camerata Salzburg !
