Thank you so much UNIQUESQARED for your help and quick responses. I'm going to use the desktop for now and get back to the laptop issue and apply what you suggested when i can put some more time into it. right now, just need basic mixing stuff. i plan to get into loops/ samples/ sync in next mth or two. here's my first house mix w/ s4 kontrol, titled 'direct drive'. cheers, dattrax

@hau5lover I think you can absolutely rock the party with the S4. I use the S4 at every gig because I can have a more dynamic performance than just with turntables or CDJs. I'm used to using turntables with Traktor Scratch Pro and a Kontrol X1, but with the S4 everything is right in front of me and I can use 4 decks. I think anyone that learns the S4 will fall in love and never look back. I hope this helps.

@DJafferiK Thanks for the comment. The S4 is definitely worth saving up for and we have excellent pricing on our website, but you have some other less expensive options in the Vestax VCI-100, Mixtrack Pro, Reloop Jockey 2, and Vestax Typhoon. I hope this helps!

@07dcali The DN- MC6000 Comes with VDJ Le which is the free version. You can upgrade to the full version for 149.00.You will then have the ability to do all the things traktor does & more.You can sample, record your mix to cd, harddrive, even broadcast your mix live or through video.The DN-MC6000 can also be used with the Traktor software, you just have to purchase it seperately, which is 229.00. Traktor s4 software is now called Traktor Pro2, the upgrade is 79.00. If it is not included n S4.
@Bonchanoize Yes, you can. The mix records and files to your recordings folder in the software, very easy and convenient.
@g4mmo Yes, you can. You get the upgrade free with purchase till August 23rd.
The deck selection buttons are at the top of the controller. The color changes depending on which deck is selected.

i ve the s4 since release and i can just tell u that i m unbelievable happy with it. it allowes u to do EVERYTHING u want with great feedback and its not to big or to heavy to carry around. i use it together with 2 f1's what makes the whole pack unbeatable - in my eyes. aswell its not that expansiv (dont know if that counts for u). u can put all of that in a magma case (or the one of nativ itself) open it and start playing. in my eyes ---> awsome:
but of course 2 1200's look much cooler....
@aidske All 3 are definitely our best sellers, but the S4 and NS6 have been the most popular. The major difference between these is that the S4 is Traktor Pro and the NS6 is Serato Itch. We did do a mapping for Traktor with the NS6 so it could actually use both. My favorite is still the S4 because I favor Traktor. I hope this helps!

@TheBlakeBuselt Either is great depending on your budget, but I highly recommend going for the S4.
Physical channels, and accessibility due to the extra knobs and cues on the S4. I highly recommend it if you have the means and want to do live remixing with the extra decks. I hope this helps!

@NightStrikeKill Yes, you can in Traktor Pro which comes with the S2.
I'm thinking about purchasing this as my first piece of DJ equipment.
The S4 has aluminum plating over the two decks and a plastic case. There is also rubber and brushed metal so its really a combination of plastic, rubber, and metal.
@biancamatic No, but they are adjustable in the software. I did switch out my knobs and fader tops via Ean Golden's. You should go for it, seriously. Cheers!

excellent review. clear and concise. just got it a month ago and seem to get static pops and clicks all the time even after adjusting laptop for digital dj'ing according to NI's direction. any thoughts about that? dattrax

@arkona1337 I own the S4 and it's been a champion. I like the crossfader and and the cues because I like to do a lot of scratching and live playing with loops. I really like the DDJ though, too.

@07dcali You don't have sample banks and recording capabilities in Virtual DJ that comes with the DN-MC6000. It's more about the software than the contoller and the S4 comes with Traktor and it has more capabilities and functionality than Virtual DJ. I hope this helps!
@zvrts It depends on how much you rely on the jogs on your Otus. If you are using Traktor the X1 maps perfectly. I'm unfamiliar with how the Otus maps to it and if you will have the same flawless functionality that you would with the X1. Let me know, maybe you can use both. Thanks for the comments!
@ElMaco97 You don't have to uninstall it. You can put Traktor 2 on multiple computers. I hope this helps!
@BboyPh8 The deck is part of the controller.
@dattrax7 It appears that the laptop processing is having a difficult time with the software controller. Aside from from NI suggestion I would just adjust the buffer in the preferences until the pops are gone. If they don't go away or you experience latency with the software, try purging any non-essentials on your laptop that might be hindering your processing. You have plenty of horsepower on your laptop and you shouldn't be experiencing any issues. Please let me know if this helps.
@tranjohn The level was hot when I crossed over to the deck, and it's a high freq sample at the beginning of the track.
@Uniquesquared Great! :) Read your blog on it too with DVS. I was sold on this...but realized its faders aren't replaceable right?

@jameshillwarner1 S4 and a laptop. If there isn't a PA system at the show you would need to bring that, too.

@jonrotheneberger Scratching on the S4 does take a little getting used to if your strokes are long. However, the jog wheels are super accurate and the cuts and tears are well defined. Check out the Traktor S4 scratch session on youtube of Happee and company. It's brilliant.

MadFlip, I had a question because im making up my mind in what to buy, in this video you say that what u like about this traktor controller is that u can do remixing, dj, and producing, are this options alos available on the Denon DN mc6000?????

i have been researching for months now on what to get. i've had a hercules dj 4set for roughly a year and a half and im ready for a respectable setup. i've looked at the pioneer ddj-sx and the traktor s4. my goal is to get to club dj status and is that achievable through the s4? i've read other blogs saying to get 2 technics 1200's and a mixer and i am at a crossroad as to what to do. what would be best?
@joaoromeuferraz I still favor the S4 because of the layout, and the cue buttons are bigger than the T1.
if u dont have traktor scratch pro can u use 4 track decks. so deck A,B,C&D can play tracks or are C&D only for samples,loops,etc
With that budget, you should consider the Kontrol S2 or S4. Do you already have a laptop?
I might buy this unit but i also use cdjs at clubs, will i feel confused between using a traktor s4 and cdjs? Thanks
using windows7 w/ a dual-core laptop w/ 3g of ram. now using windows 7 desktop w/ quad-core & 8g of ram. no probs on desktop, but still get pops and clicks constantly on laptop almost everytime i move something on the controller. and this is after optimizing both computers for sound according to NI support suggestions.

What I'm asking is say if I only have a traktor s4 right but when I go to the clubs and i use cdj2000s, I'm wondering if I will be confused from the different setup and button positions or if it will feel the same. Thanks

I use Traktor Scratch Pro 2 with audio 8 and external mixer with timecode cd, when i record i have to use a spair channel on the audio 8. Does the S4 work on the same principal? Would be handy for a quick tutorial to explain if possible for recording with the S4

Isn't recording on many softwares such as vdj and djuiced and the simpler softwares?

Does the S4 have full EQ kill switches or push to kill? Its my understanding the Pioneer T1 doesn't and this is one feature I really want.

The s2 jog wheels can be mapped to 3 different effects at the same time. Can the s4 also be mapped like that?

Okay, I really need to know: which one should I go for? DDJ-T1 or S4. I don't like T1 that much because it doesn't have the volume levels LED. And the S4, it's too small for me to play with it and rubber buttons. HELP ME!!!! :(

@dattrak7 I had the same problem with mine. Mine was solved purely by switching off the wifi. Other problems maybe an issue with latency.

i just bought traktor kontrol s4 and it came with a licensing number,...i registered it and it was the traktor 2 software. i bought it off amazon. and i live in okinawa...i do believe that it was suppose to come with the traktor s4 pro,...which is "exclusive to the controller".! So my questiong is what do i do?

bought cdj800's and a ddm4000 and just last week bought a zero4. havnt used any software for mixing yet but saw my friends s4 and it has soo much that i want in my set up. i just am worried ill need to buy cdj's again or will miss my set up :(
You will have to get timecode vinyl so that Traktor can recognize your turntables.

so what you're saying is: is the traktor s4 similar to cdjs and a mixer? to some extent yes, but if u are gonna be using cdjs to make money at clubs then i would suggest using cdjs just so u can rock the show alot better at the clubs and not mess up as much
