It's a representation of how much someone cares about something. Rolls Royce cars are hundreds of thousands of dollars because the engineers at Rolls Royce put their heart and soul into designing a car that will give their customers the best experience possible. Back to Kaiki. He's given hundreds of thousands of yen to Nadeko when he was worshipping her (for reference's sake, 100k yen is roughly 1k usd). However, this much money doesn't mean a lot to her because she's 14. What's she going to do with that much money? The money has no value to her, so she's just stuck with it. However, her manga has value to her. That's why she keeps it locked up in her closet. Kaiki used a 10 yen coin (1 cent) to open the closet. Since her manga has value to her, she can't possibly comprehend the fact that someone just so blatantly uncovered her deepest darkest secret with such a ludicrously low amount of money. It was almost like stealing. Ironic, how hundreds of thousands of yen mean almost nothing, but the simplest, smallest 10 yen coin can have such a large impact.

Plus he took down a black belt in karate

It was something that there was literally nothing to go off of that would even so much hint that interest. Finally it was not that no one could understand her that was the issue. The issue was that no one else could sympathize with her. In the end he even admitted that he does not understand her. What he said was truth from his own perspective as a liar.
***** In the beginning of Medusa, when Nadeko is listing off her interests, she says things like retro games and 80s manga, which appear odd for someone like her. While the reveal did throw me off, it's interesting how there were hints a long ways back.

This scene is a masterpiece. The fact that she doesnt use the snakes to kill Kaiki... gets off her mighty pedestal... runs off to him, almost trips... just to hit him like humans hit each other. Gods cant be embarassed. Embarassment is a human only quality.

Actually,(SPOILERS FROM THE LN'S AHEAD) Kaiki isn't killed,Ougi just hits him and makes sure he becomes "lost" and can never return to town.Why?Because Ougi is similar to Hanekawa's Neko,a apparition created by a human.Just like Rainy Devil,or "Monkey's Paw",Araragi created Ougi out of his self-hatred and wish to be "punished" for his deeds which he deemed evil.Back in August when Araragi fought the First,the materialization of many small aparitions in the town and lost Hachikuji he started wondering"If Hachikuji is punished for not being a lost cow,why am i not being punished aswell for not being human or vampire?Why doesn't the Darkness come to me aswell?"In a way,Ougi is indeed just a pseudo-darkness,but with the power of many apparitions Araragi encountered,that's why she was able to keep Yozuru Kagenui and Kaiki away from their town and made them "vanish".If you remember,Ougi knew absolutely everything about Araragi"It's not me that knows,it's you that knows Araragi-senpai.".She's the one that forced Araragi to remember and ponder about his huge mistakes with Sodachi and she's the one that instrumented Nadeko's rise to be a god if you remember well.

I absolutely love the double meanings in this show. They’re talking about peeking at her secret hobby hidden in her closet while the visuals indicate something entirely different.
I have always liked Nadeko, but I used to dislike Kaiki (though I laughed when he trolled Araragi at Mister Donut for information about Kagenui, after which it turns out that he was the one who informed her about his sister in the first place). But after this arc he instantly became my second favourite character in the entire series, followed by Nadeko in third place. First place is and will always of course be Shinobu.
Masane17 Well Shinobu is the best girl (and character in general) in this series and this arc proved that Kaiki is awesome (much more so than Araragi imo). And even though she kinda went evil/insane in this arc I still believe that it made Nadeko a more interesting character.

Kaiki's self introduction save me from black company. I forget the line but it's something like _"You don't have to face your problem to solve it. Maybe you can just run away from it and it solves on its own. Run away might be the magnificent solving problem."_ I run away from my previous job and now have better job. Thanks Kaiki.

During Renai Circulation you can see Nadeko drawing manga in the scene where she's sitting at her desk, and notebooks are piling up beside her. It was in plain sight for us the whole time.
As funny as this scene is, it is way funnier within the context of the whole arc. They led us to think there was something really weird in that closet, then left us hanging, and finally blind-sighted with the closeted manga artist gag right here. It was hilarious.
People don't like Nadeko? I mean, she's the villain and antagonist. She's in the wrong. It makes sense for people to not like her. I just haven't seen that. At least not at any sort of large scale.

If the other girls were in possession of a talisman, they could've easily turned out much worse. Let's all not forget about the genocide timeline triggered by Hanekawa. Senjougahara probably would've should've use the talisman too if she had it. I mean, she was willing to trust multiple con-artists, so she was clearly pretty desperate. Hell, the first thing Kanbaru did was put four kids in the hospital. She would've lost her shit if she was in possession of such an item.
It was here I realized just how much foreshadowing the opening had in them. The lyrics and everything. if you know someone who has overly doting parents you can probably understand nadeko a little better
sengoku truly wanted to become manga artist but was afraid to accept it as she was treated as cute girl which she hated. and effect of snake curse gave a deep scar to her mind affecting her choices like her love for koyomi though in real she never loved him. kaiki understood this and analysed that what she needed was adult guidance which will help her to move on.
Easily my favorite arc. Got best girl Kaiki in it as the main (anti)hero, and the way it handled the situation, this scene in particular was so fucking cathartic and satisfying. I wanted nothing more than for basically exactly this to happen to Sengoku. The first time I saw it was such a perfect experience.

You can actually read the manga she made because they released it at some point. Its unsuprisingly pretty terrible, but its fun to read knowing that in-universe, nadeko wrote it.
this is actually the only scene where i found her really cute , i mean that in this scene she looks like a real girl and not like the stereotype of "the cute girl"/ yandere (after becoming a god ). Also , thanks to how good is her character developement in this arc , now i can't help but like her , not best girl but not bad either
It's because of people who judge her only by her adorableness that she is hated. She is the epitome of a moe blob. She is nothing but adorable. She has no substance, no depth. The best scenes with her are when she gets absolutely verbally destroyed by Shinobu. It's as if Nisio's regret of making such a bland character to begin with shines through that dialog, and Shinobu becomes his direct vessel for this. To be fair, she gets spiced up a little in the Medusa arc, where we see some character development... but she have always been and will continue to be a dumb and vapid girl to the core whom no amount of cuteness can redeem.
+Beastly That's actually part of her character development. Nadeko herself mentions that she's just a cute face and nothing else and that everyone treats her like a cute face and nothing else.
in fact that's correct , i immediatly found her a boring ass character and terrible personality , tough i think that Nisio did her this way on porpouse just to make this arc perfectly fit. As a matter of fact i liked her during this arc because she didn' t seem like the moe victim anymore , she was scolded , she reflected on this but still acted this way , then she chenge personality for a bit of time , then she tries to make it seem like it's not her fault that she is a cute brat and so on making an awesome character developement with all this. As a person she wuold still be not really good but as a character she is really good indeed , at leat after this arc
+Beastly I'd say Nadeko is one of the most interesting characters in Monogatari as of Nadeko Medusa. It really goes in-depth on her "performance" as a moe archetype in order to avoid honestly engaging with the real world, which is one of the main themes of Monogatari and the main way in which it explores its meta. Then there's her musings on the nature of victimization, responsibility and the like. She's the most immature character in the show, and what makes her fun is that no amount of godlike powers can change that. I don't think Nisioisin having other characters interrogate her is a sign of regret, either. Even Shinobu herself gets that treatment from Kanbaru. I do agree that it's cathartic, though, which seems to be the point.
This greater series of anime is both brilliant and utterly exhausting to watch, both because of the two-frame stills and quick cuts, and because the characters are so complex and unreasonable. It's hilarious for the mangaka to not only make fun of himself but to hang a lampshade on all the terrible mistakes he makes -- and KNOWS he makes -- but continues to do anyway because it's part of the reason that his works are so special.
Poor Nadeko, she didn't deserve this.... or did she? I think it's great she was able to go for her dreams after everything ended and realized all the wrong she did after this. Great character development.

I guess everyone agrees on Shinobu being number 1 or 2, depending on how much you like Kaiki. Every Character's pretty good tho, not one poorly written one, just some unsympathetic ones maybe.
I love Nadeko so much, but Shinobu will always be my favorite character.
The lowest depths and highest peak of Kaiki's character involve tricking middle schoolers.

As funny as this scene is, it is way funnier within the context of the whole arc. They led us to think there was something really weird in that closet, then left us hanging, and finally blind-sighted with the closeted manga artist gag right here. It was hilarious.
I loved Kaiki so much more with every episode. Impossibly so by the last.

As someone who occasionally draws anime, I agree to the fact that this is how we react when people look into our folders
If the other girls were in possession of a talisman, they could've easily turned out much worse. Let's all not forget about the genocide timeline triggered by Hanekawa. Senjougahara probably would've should've use the talisman too if she had it. I mean, she was willing to trust multiple con-artists, so she was clearly pretty desperate. Hell, the first thing Kanbaru did was put four kids in the hospital. She would've lost her shit if she was in possession of such an item.
It was here I realized just how much foreshadowing the opening had in them. The lyrics and everything. if you know someone who has overly doting parents you can probably understand nadeko a little better

sengoku truly wanted to become manga artist but was afraid to accept it as she was treated as cute girl which she hated. and effect of snake curse gave a deep scar to her mind affecting her choices like her love for koyomi though in real she never loved him. kaiki understood this and analysed that what she needed was adult guidance which will help her to move on.
Easily my favorite arc. Got best girl Kaiki in it as the main (anti)hero, and the way it handled the situation, this scene in particular was so fucking cathartic and satisfying. I wanted nothing more than for basically exactly this to happen to Sengoku. The first time I saw it was such a perfect experience.

You can actually read the manga she made because they released it at some point. Its unsuprisingly pretty terrible, but its fun to read knowing that in-universe, nadeko wrote it.

It's because of people who judge her only by her adorableness that she is hated. She is the epitome of a moe blob. She is nothing but adorable. She has no substance, no depth.
The best scenes with her are when she gets absolutely verbally destroyed by Shinobu. It's as if Nisio's regret of making such a bland character to begin with shines through that dialog, and Shinobu becomes his direct vessel for this.
To be fair, she gets spiced up a little in the Medusa arc, where we see some character development... but she have always been and will continue to be a dumb and vapid girl to the core whom no amount of cuteness can redeem.
+Beastly That's actually part of her character development. Nadeko herself mentions that she's just a cute face and nothing else and that everyone treats her like a cute face and nothing else.
in fact that's correct , i immediatly found her a boring ass character and terrible personality , tough i think that Nisio did her this way on porpouse just to make this arc perfectly fit. As a matter of fact i liked her during this arc because she didn' t seem like the moe victim anymore , she was scolded , she reflected on this but still acted this way , then she chenge personality for a bit of time , then she tries to make it seem like it's not her fault that she is a cute brat and so on making an awesome character developement with all this. As a person she wuold still be not really good but as a character she is really good indeed , at leat after this arc
+Beastly I'd say Nadeko is one of the most interesting characters in Monogatari as of Nadeko Medusa. It really goes in-depth on her "performance" as a moe archetype in order to avoid honestly engaging with the real world, which is one of the main themes of Monogatari and the main way in which it explores its meta. Then there's her musings on the nature of victimization, responsibility and the like. She's the most immature character in the show, and what makes her fun is that no amount of godlike powers can change that.
I don't think Nisioisin having other characters interrogate her is a sign of regret, either. Even Shinobu herself gets that treatment from Kanbaru. I do agree that it's cathartic, though, which seems to be the point.
This greater series of anime is both brilliant and utterly exhausting to watch, both because of the two-frame stills and quick cuts, and because the characters are so complex and unreasonable. It's hilarious for the mangaka to not only make fun of himself but to hang a lampshade on all the terrible mistakes he makes -- and KNOWS he makes -- but continues to do anyway because it's part of the reason that his works are so special.
Poor Nadeko, she didn't deserve this.... or did she? I think it's great she was able to go for her dreams after everything ended and realized all the wrong she did after this. Great character development.
i dont think anyone ever deserves to suffer. i think the right way to word this is "nadeko learnt her lesson". if she hadnt fucked up, god knows what wouldve happened
