The current European political attitude towards illegal immigrants is clear. Italy and France are taking huge steps to block their departure from Libya and just accept real refugees. There's much more to know that the basic statements. There are vast maritime operations potentially planned for the future.
And what is real refugees? And why do we need to accept so many of them? Why do Europe have to take all the people from the failed states of the world? Europe have a thing called social welfare that is dependent on the social contract, that you pay taxes to fund a safety net for the citizens of that country. When people arrive with no hope of ever balancing the equation of their stay it is a net loss for the country and when enough of them come the country will suffer dearly. The social contract will fail and so will Europe. And I am not even mentioning the medieval cultures that will never integrate. The only logical thing is to increase help locally where it counts and try to elevate those failed countries. This way we help more people with less money.
Hagge Bänke because Europe's population is decreasing and people are getting old. Getting these refugees will help the European economies in upcoming future years. Better would be that Europeans start reproducing more.

I... don't fully understand the views of the women at the National Advocates for Pregnant Women. Poverty and lack of access to healthcare and education absolutely are problems that we need to deal with, but saying that taking drugs while pregnant isn't that bad? I admit I haven't read indepth into new research about drug use and pregnancy, but I think we can all agree that it's NOT a good idea to do heroin while you're pregnant? Like that can't be good for a fetus.
The NGO's are "rescuing" "refugees" in international waters 20km's off the Libyan coast and sailing them 400km's to Sicily. Not to the nearest port as per maritime law. VERY suspicious.

Less than 15% are actual refugees. Italy is already helping the Libyan Coast Guard in a logistic way and plans on wage war on the traffickers, with a military operation. The negotiation is going on between our two governments.
And then there's the very well designed French proposal of creating UN offices there to select the real refugees and distribute them all over the world, blocking illegal migrants (economic migrants) from the beginning, without that useless travel by sea.
Hope these two plans will work. Have thought about them for a long time and they seem valid and efficient.

Zachary King What? Do you think to be normal for a state to take in everyone who wants to enter the country just because they're escaping poverty? They will continue to come and we cannot sustain the costs, plus, it's simply not right. Who said we won't treat them with humanity? If they are real refugees, they'll be safely welcomed in the EU and redistributed, but illegal immigration is something else.
Don't forget that we have our own economical and social interests to defend. Our government is elected for a reason. That's simply logical.
And that's not my view: the EU describes economical migrants as illegal, because they lack the legal status of refugees. Simply, we cannot take them back to Libya because it's a war zone according to the UN.

I think the person helping those drug addicts is doing the right thing.
The discussion on drugs was incredibly one-sided. I am not commenting on the efficacy of the argument. I am merely pointing out the bias of the reporting on drug addicted parents. It is "reporting" like this that denigrates the title "news".
My main issue with her argument "if they regret that decision further on down the line, that's a decision they made". So you're going to criticise them for getting pregnant whilst strung out on drugs and any subsequent effects that may cause the child, but NOT realise that they're strung out on drugs when they want to be sterilised. You're giving an addict a *cash* incentive for a lifelong commitment, that said addict has no idea of the repercussions at the height of their addiction.
I commend her for promoting addicts in getting IUDs and long term birth control. But at the same time your not recommending centres to help them get clean. Great so these women can't have kids, that doesn't stop the crime poverty and diseases that they face.
Did this lady seriously just say doing crack doesn't impact pregnancy. Wow, just wow.
Italy really needs to help themselves, I don't want that beautiful country to become another place where sex attacks start to rise.

The lady targeting pregnant drug addicts may have good intentions, but it makes me uncomfortable. Isn't the mental status of a drug addict already altered, making consent an issue? I would think that a drug addict is 99% of the time going to take the money, probably to get more drugs, so it's kinda manipulating a person with an altered mental state. Also, what happens to women who get sterilized, get clean, then can't have kids? I have no issue with offering long term birth control, but a permanent "solution" for a problem that may be temporary (addiction), may be taking away too much.

Jobs are tough to come by, especially in the south of Italy. There isn't even enough work for the locals. The migrants are going to be sitting for while.

That is. During the last days we started to negotiate with Libya to better patrol their sea and block illegal immigration. Although it is late, it's still a great strategy.
Our Military Navy is already helping the Libyan Coast Guard with training, repairing of their ship and we also gave them some more ships to counter illegal trafficker. We would like to directly conduct military operations in their national waters, but at this time they have cancelled their official proposal to let us enter their waters, after asking us.
In a short time this may be change. Hope so. It could be possible to block every illegal ship from Libya and wage war to these traffickers, who are well armed and equipped.
I also support the French proposal of creating UN centres there to identify the minority of true refugees and accept them safely (less than 15% of the total), while efficiently rejecting the economic migrants (aka illegal immigration).
It's smuggling. A lot of them pay money to get on the boats and leave Libya for promises of welfare in Europe, then NGOs pick them up close to the Libyan coast.

Doesn't kelp convert the carbon that would've otherwise been in the ocean, back into the atmosphere? Ie. I learnt that an increase of atmospheric carbon is what leads to climate change. The conversion of carbon from the oceans to the atmosphere is what leads to higher levels, in addition to human pollution etc. The kelp part of this video just confused me. Anyone care to explain?

What Italy is doing is great! Awesome, they care about people! Buuuut, can they afford that? Have they prepared any assimilation programs for all those migrants? I hope they're not like "bring em in, theyll figure everything out on their own". This will cause a lot of civil unrest

ehsorb that's what the assimilation programs are for. You can't just expect people to change their mind. You have to argue and persuade people to do so.

What our State is doing is far from right. I will explain it.
We are saving and accepting everyone of them, right now. We should just accept refugees, which are 15% of the total. The other 85% are economical migrants and have no special legal status for being here, they're illegal migrants. Fact is, that we can't just return them in a country where a civil war is taking place, according to UN.
That's why we are working closely with the Libyan Coast Guard to block the illegal trafficker from sending illegal migrants in the first place, by conducting military operations against them. We're helping them with training, ships and much more. We should create, as the French proposed, UN centres there to identify the true refugees and distribute them all over the world safely, without sending them just to one country, at the cost of the UN.
Not a single European country should be forced to take illegal migrants. We should block them and allow just the real refugees safely, but not just here: in the entire world. They could go to Tunisia too, to Morocco, to Saudi Arabia and so on, not just in Europe. It's a UN problem, so take responsibilities.
I mean, having a child thats yours biologically is fine, but adoption NEEDS to be an option. So many kids need to be adopted. So, so many kids needs amazing moms and dads, not just biological parents. Blood doesn't matter.

This woman's logic is flawed. She's giving money to drug addicts so that they can stop reproducing (arguably a benefit to the children and society) but redirect their money to more drugs thus doing nothing about the problem of their drug addiction and the socio-economic conditions that allow for the drug addictions to continue.

I don't see what the problem with migrants is. Maybe I haven't given it much attention, but if they were given the right to work and pay taxes like everyone else then what makes them different from a normal working citizen? I ask because I'm sure people will say they "take our jobs" but I'm pretty sure migrants have started businesses and created jobs for everyone too. My example of that? Just look at your local restaurants, convenience store, auto repair/maintenance shop, grocery store, and so on. I've met many entrepreneurs thanks to my cousin who aspires to start a business, many of them were either migrants or children of migrants. If the problem is that people enter a country illegally why not give them a legal stay along with taxes and work permits as well as a fee/or fine for entering illegally along with background checks from their home country?
I'll admit I'm not very knowledgeable about economics, but this seems to make sense to me.
By the way this is just my take on the issue of immigration. I know some would like to just fire their own ideals all over the place with narrow, closed off thinking. I post this because I'm sure someone can explain why this can or can not be done. I'm looking for discussion not argument.

I'm from Denmark my media is biased in another way, but the advantage off being from a small country is that a lot of our news comes from many different sources over the world. As such we get a fairly clear picture when our own media is heavily biased and when they are not. the same goes for when we look at american media or UK/french media.
You should still downvote things that are made to mislead and upvote things that are trying to show a full picture, no matter the views of the program
