- The exhaust flex joint on this 2006 Toyota Sienna XLE is broken. Here's how I fixed it. I'm hoping to get a year or 2 more out of this muffler system before I do a complete replacement. Temporary muffler fix.

Thanks for watching!!!
In my books anyone that can successfully do exhaust work is an absolute genius. I fail every time I attempt it. These days I take exhaust work to a shop.
Thank you for this. Have a similar thing going. Half debating whether to get it welded by someone.
The guys that do this on regular older cars have a waiting list.
Disaster?
How's that a disaster when it was loud and now it's quiet and the fix was cheap?
Good job. I keep soda and soup cans around for problems like what you had. I used a beer can to fix a broken sway bar bracket on a 1996 Camry. It was still working when I got rid of it. Happy Motoring
Yeah, I was attempting to replace that flex pipe myself and had trouble doing it. I ended up getting a cheap Y pipe from eBay and it's been holding up for 2 years now.
I have the same problem going on, thanks for the tips.. heading out to start the repair . Thanks again.
Just found this. This will help me out. Ordered a a split 2 PC flange to unite the catalytic converter pipe to the mid pipe. Have a 1999 Toyota rav4 with 260,000 miles. Very reliable. Big plus is a non interference engine. I do have a platinum flux welding setup with helmet from harbor freight. Still in the box. I have never welded anything
Nice job! Had to do the same repair on my dads sienna
Another fan of your channel to keep you going, keep posting.... I am, on the process now of changing my 1998 transmission, Haven't done before, but ill do it anyways to learn. I'm not in a rush to do it, its part of my learning process. Again, thank you for posting good stuff.
Thank you!
thank you for the clear video
Yeahh for exhaust work, if it's not direct bolt on, I would just take it to an exhaust shop where they make a quick work of cutting and welding with their oxy torches. In and out in an hour for like 150 bucks lol
Exactly. The good smaller shops that are reasonable priced have backlogs of work.
Forget the chain stores. Big money
Just replaced my 1995 Honda odyssey OEM catback exhaust system with a cheap Ebay Chinese catback exhaust system perfect fit . $ 276 with shipping. Van has about 416,000 miles
Thanks for videos,👌
Do you think wrapping the flex area with a high temperature flue tape would extend the life of that weak spot? Thanks for the video!
@@jtom8888 I tried that and it didn’t last. It was like a fiberglass tape.
great job
I have the same issue. Im thinking about stuffing it with epoxy putty and clamping it
Update: Mines was completely cracked near the engine block. Stuff it with 5 tubes of epoxy putty from hd. So far the noise and exhaust smell is gone
I wouldn't have taken it off up front I would have just welded it or expanded the pipe
Good thing my 2011 just needs a gasket after a 0 mile aftermarket tranny install needed to remove the damn pipe. Not looking forward to other issues. 1700 bucks for replacement system. I feel like you could just buy a custom system at the same of less. But who knows
Yeah, I saw online where you could buy a system for 350 bucks. Not sure if it’ll be any good, but 1700 is a lot.
Yeah, this is exactly what I'm starring at as my sienna is on a jack stand/jack. I'm forced to be cheap on this one. I didn't hear whether or not your temporary fix solved your temporary problem. How was the noise level after you finished?
It is really just a temporary fix to keep my muffler together for a while longer. It did help the noise level though. My whole muffler is rattling a little bit though because it’s falling apart piece by piece.
That's the OEM pipe which had a double-walled construction. Aftermarkets don't have that.
You need pipe expander
Yes I did!
your luky u hav alot of pipe to work with. that part wer u cut n then 8in after that is my dam catalytic converter 2009 sienna lol. wat if i take out my catalytic wat will hapen?
I wish I knew the answer to that. I’m getting ready to replace my whole exhaust system (minus the catalytic converter) since the rest of mine is falling apart. I found an affordable option I’m going to try through eBay from a company called upsw.com. You might want to take a look.
@@therustichandyman u mean your gona take out the catalytic converter?
@@outoftime788 no. My catalytic converter comes right off the engine., so I’m replacing everything after that, which is the entire exhaust system for like $300.
@@therustichandyman does your sienna hav jus one catalytic converter? i wonder if mine has 2.....
@@outoftime788 I think mine has 2, one coming off each side of the motor if I remember right. I'll be putting on my new aftermarket system here shortly....
My y pipe broke after 2 years
That’s frustrating!
Брат ты хоть перчатки одевай ,береги руки ,привет из России!
Dude you seem like a super nice guy but your mechanical skills are quite hacky...lol..no disrespect but this muffler fix you did was a disaster my friend..
It’s just a temporary fix to buy me some more time on this muffler to keep it from falling off. It’s still going 😬
