Saw you using a dolly for all them file cabinets. You should look into the forearm forklifts. They are webbing straps 2 people use to lift appliances and things like it. Makes life easier
We've used them before they are awesome. I was afraid they wouldn't work on this staircase because it was so steep and the file cabinets are so smooth on all sides. We got them all out in 30min with the dolly though!
Buying my first dump trailer tomorrow. I'm in Michigan. Thanks for your inspiration and all the great videos. I'm goñna crush it with all the foreclosures coming.
Love your videos. I'm a woodshop teacher looking for a side hustle or a business to step into full time. You work hard and earn your money. Looks like you have a great business. Thanks for sharing.
Have been watching you for awhile now! Great info! You and another great individual who uploads to TH-cam have gave me the information and the courage to get out there and start making some cash from trash! It's a very rewarding job. And so far so good! Already plugged a few tires :) Business cards coming in soon. I think my professional logo, for me around my area, sets me apart along with being licensed and insured.(Which most junk removal companies don't look to be), besides one bigger company. And of course a job well done.
This takes me back to my Moving and Storage days. You should look into using Hump Straps or the Forearm Forklift for larger items and stairs. Much easier than a dolly! Also, for estimating weight on household goods, we always used 7lbs/cu ft. I'm curious how that compares to what you find?
We've used the Forearm Forklift before! Someone lost it (classic). What we ended up doing after that first one was me pulling and Connor pushing the whole way. DIdn't stop on each step. All 15 file cabinets took us 25 min. File cabinets are always a pain. Especially if they're fireproof!
Love the video content brother... I would love to see more of an itemized breakdown of each job you did for days lone this. Also estimate verses an over and above/go back fee you had to do. Thanks!
Thanks for the support Curtis! Happy to hear you’re enjoying the videos. She needs a refrigerator and dishwasher moved from a rental property in Needham. I gave her your contact information. They are great people and Tip well.
How much would you charge for a full garage clean out like the first house. I know you have price points, would it just be a full trucks load or by tonnage?
Full truck load. Each price point should include a certain amount of weight. It's very difficult to figure out what material weighs what but you get the hang of it after doing thousands of jobs lol.
Great question Alan! I use $600 in the videos as a general number for my expenses (truck payments, insurance, gas, advertising etc.) You can find this number for your own business by adding up all of your expenses at the end of each month and divide by 30 (days in the month). This will give you the number you spend each day to keep your company running.
@@joewellrivera The $600 I use is a rough number that covers all expenses for the day (insurance, truck/trailer payments, advertising, etc.) So yes it includes that and everything else you would be paying daily.
Love the videos! Easy money until those cabinets/stairs showed up. Started a dumpster rental/junk removal business recently and been getting a lot more junk removal/demo calls than dumpster rentals, but I like it. I recently got a call to haul off an old bass boat. The owner is deceased. Trailer has rotted tires. Not sure on title status. Don't want to get jammed up by LEO. Any advice how to price or approach this? Or should I just walk away? Thanks!
@@SteveConroy1 The son. He was supposed to send me some pics, but hasn't yet so maybe he found someone else. Boat is supposed to be in pretty rough shape. I guess as long as he can sign the title over to me I would be alright, but then trying to get rid of it could be more hassle than worth.
Sometimes we do. If most of the items we are loading are heavier than usual, I will tell the customer we need to check weight at the dump and will invoice them at the end of the day. If they want to settle up right then and there I do my best to assume what the extra weight will be (easy to do with lots of experience) and will tack that onto the invoice.
Winter can be very slow Al. Don’t harp on it. There’s nothing you can do about it besides getting out there everyday and making sure others know your operating.
@@SteveConroy1 Thank you for the advice. I'm reaching out to the realtor and storage area and social media. I'm doing the groundwork now. so I can be busy when summer comes.
I know you mentioned before that you cover 1 ton in your pricing per load. When you go over a ton do you just prorate the extra weight? Or if you’re doing multiple loads And the next load doesn’t quite make a ton do you just call it even?
All weight after 1 ton is prorated. If we pull a half truck and I think it's going to be over the weight we cover for that size load, but we have to fill the rest of the truck up before we go to the dump, I do my best to judge that cost after we dump.
@@SteveConroy1 to add to this question, so if you go over the weight you quoted, do you go back and charge the customer more? I heard in a couple of your videos that you invoice some clients, does that mean they pay later? Or do you collect as soon as you load the truck?
Hey man, thanks for the vids. Do you get the CC up front and then charge them after the dump? It's kind of risky to do the dump and then ask for payment, but you seem to add/remove charges for the dump fee's and so I'm confused. Thanks
Nine times out of ten I take payment after the job is complete. If the material is in any way heavy, I tell them we'll check weight at the dump and I will bill then at days end. That is also a conversation I have with them before we book the. job. I only. do it this way because I want to be fair to the customer and to myself. A residential full load pick up rarely goes over 1 ton and if it does its like 20 bucks. I don't want to eat that $20 so I pass is on to the customer. I could just charge a flat fee of say $50 if I think it would be over weight and accept payment before we left but the customer would not like that and it's not fair to them. I never remove charges for the dump fee though, so I'm not sure where you're getting that. But if I'm mistaken please let me know! Happy to answer your questions brother!
@@tekker8308 Yes you are correct. If I have a bad feeling about the person I will tack on what I believe to be a fair amount and get paid on the spot. I don't ever have a problem with my system but it might not work in other areas.
