    assuming many of us will have had a boiler installed, slapped on default settings and ‘jobs a good’un’ - are there good installers that you can get in to tune your system after installation? Eg adjusting range rating, pump speed, checking rads are properly balanced etc.

      Most installers know how to balance the rads. It's getting an accurate heat loss for the home that's hard to find

    Would you still range rate a new modulating system boiler for a residential property with a 6kw heat loss? If you did and set it to 6Kw, but it was only demanding 3Kw that day using weather compensation, would that mean the boiler would fire up from off to 6Kw then modulate down to 3kw a short while after, rather than fire up to 25Kw without range rating set?

    I fully understand and agree about gas safety engineers only for servicing installing gas boiler. But this function is something that needs adjusting as you go along when a new boiler is installed. Considering as others have said the person who installed it didn’t bother as there attitude is wack it up full.

    Great video (many thanks) can I ask why you can only range rate down to 50% when the instruction page goes down lower?

    I had a Worcester Bosch fitted from homeserve they left the range rate at 80 percent so I ran that at 80 for a few days then changed it down to 55 percent know difference in price of gas then I opened all my lock shields to fully open down stairs then balance my rads from the tvrs and upstairs I fully shut the lock shields and the opened them half a turn all good.

      @vivatrainingUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure how you’ve left the balancing, but you should only balance the system using the lock shields whilst the TRV’s are fully open.

      @@vivatrainingUK Hi thanks for the tips with my rads I’ve tried what you suggested taken about 2 hours to get the roughly the same heat in each rad but worth it any good settings on range rating mine is set at 80 the rads are set at 55 water set at 48 I have 11 rads in my home any good settings would be greatly received 👍

    Okay but does this then effect the heat output? So lets say i range rate it down to 50% will this effect the temperature or how quick it gets to the desired temperature. Also if i were to range rate it to 50% and set the heating at max temperature would this be better?

    • @stephendoherty8291

      So the ratings were set for homes with near no heat retention. I have now set mine to 60% and I'll see if the rooms stay as warm and do they get to that stage. Many smart thermostats show you how warm a zone gets or where the zone thermostat is.

    Can you do range rating for a system boiler

  • @richardmobile9892
    @richardmobile9892 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sadly my 8nstaller and others I have spoken to don't have a clue about range rating or flow temperatures. Their advice is simply to turn everything up to full as "that's how they have it in their houses and it works great".
    Long way to go on training...

    Hi have a Worcester bosh 4000
    My property has 9 radiators what range should it be set too

  • @anondoadda746

    Worcester 800 life 35kw fitted recently. when heating on and hot water tap is turned on to run water the heating goes off then comes back on when hot water tap turned off. It will usually go off for couple of minutes.
    Heating start from scratch again, it takes hours for the heating to turn on sometimes. Our previous boiler never did this.
    Any suggestions or settings I can change.

    is range rating different to modulation ratio? my vitodens 050-w has a 1:8 ratio which is good, but still oversized for eg 12c outside so my boiler is cycling. Can I range rate *and* modulate 1:8 still, or does reducing range also reduce modulation - ie is the minium output for CH still what the manufacturer says (eg 26kw at 1:8 so around 3.2kw)

    • @scott.connor
      @scott.connor ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you ever find an answer to this? I have a control system that can use modulation, as does the boiler (Greenstar 34CDi) , but I noticed that adding the control system has disabled the modulation settings. So I am assuming that the range I set before installing the control system has defaulted ot 100% and now the boiler can only modulate at 1:4. I now wonder whether it was worth installing the control or would it have been better just range setting the system.

  • @plumbertime
    @plumbertime ปีที่แล้ว

    I always range rate. Does the boiler still modulate down if range rated and if it modulates do you even need to range rate it.
    I assume range rating is better than just leaving it at max kw and letting it modulate.

  • @marinusk67

    don't forget the pump speed.
    lower output means lower pump speed and lower pump speed means that the water gets more time to give off heat so lower return temperature and higher efficiency

  • @raul835
    @raul835 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does this have any impact for the rate at which the property heats up?
    Some customers like it so it's banging out the heat fast when they turn CH on.

    • @vivatrainingUK
      @vivatrainingUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question,
      Yes it may take slightly longer for everything to get up to temperature as we are no longer forcing extra KW to the radiators, however, in my experience it is barely noticeable.
      All we have done is set the KW output to what the system was designed for, so impact on the end user will be fairly minimal.
      Take the time to talk with the customer, they may not want you to do it. All you can do is give your best advice and explain the benefits.

      it is a misunderstanding that when the boiler is banging heat out than that is comfortable.
      your room heat's up fast en than the thermostat click's off and it feels cold again.
      so the thermostat goes up higher .
      slow heat gives a much more steady temperature

    as joe public , i turned down the flow temp to 60degress & range rated down to 8.2kw my Worcester Bosch Greenstar for a 2 bed semi , & ended up with code EF 349 The boiler’s operation is at a minimum burner load, after balancing the system , flow rate returned is 54. do i need to do anything to rectify that code .

    Is this intended for the trade or the general public? If it is for the former it misses the mark, if it is for the latter it is misleading.

    Range rate but you never talk about flow rate
