Leanor (aka Lenny) was Stevie's wife. The night he wrote this song she woke up and found him sitting in the middle of the living room floor.Stevie was playing this song and crying his heart out. Jf that's not love I don't know what is. Stevie always put all his emotions into what he played. But never more so than this song.

Agree with the others. Lenny at El Mocambo is outstanding. And Riveria Paradise really came together post-sobriety and closed out In Step. The RP performance at Austin City Limits is pure magic! RP was our wedding song in 1992.

  • @jamesknox7171
    @jamesknox7171 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

He is basically just free styling here. The studio versions are different. The studio version of RP was recorded in the middle of the night with most of the lights in the studio turned off. Stevie asked the engineer if he had plenty of tape and said he did. They started recording, and after quite a while went by, the engineer was trying to get their attention to let them know he was running low on tape. Stevie had his back to him, but he finally got Chris Layton's attention and gave him the "cut" sign. Chris got Stevie's attention and so they started ending the song. As soon as the last note rang out and ended, the tape ran out. The studio version was cut in one take.

You should look at other versions of Riviera Paradise. They're very different, and in my opinion, even more beautiful. And Lenny was his ex-wife. After their divorce, he wouldn't play that song again. Next ones could be Crossfire, Tightrope, Change It. I really enjoy your reactions.

"this man doesn't play guitar, he is guitar".... true statement. My friend was on to him from the start, but it took me years to really figure out that this man was something beyond special. Amazing talent. I saw him live in Delmar California. I totally didn't appreciate what I was privilege to seeing and I regret it. As someone has already stated... American Treasure!

Thanks for bringing this today Lee👏🙌🎶🎸‼️💙. I love the Toyko concert. However just so you know, this version of these two songs are such a hybrid and mash up that you you would still need to hear more traditional versions to fully appreciate his compositions. On your own, the Lenny version from El Macombo is an experience. And Riveria Paradise as performed at Austin City Limits 1989 should be reacted to💙🎸🎶‼️. He finished this after his own rehab and recovery and dedicates it to all those still suffering in any way. It is soothing balm for a weary spirit and feels like a warm and golden hug from this man's soul. Please keep in mind for future reactions. I consider it his masterpiece that deserves a full look sometime. It is almost unrecognizable from this version. He plays so different each time.
I don't think there is a human emotion that Stevie hasn't found a way to express through his playing. Truly extraordinary🌟⭐️✨.
I think it's time for you to see a fun side of Stevie by watching him perform Mary Had a Little Lamb (yes!) as performed at Austin City Limits 1989. It is his take on Buddy Guy's arrangement on the nursery rhyme and it is so cool and so hot at the same time! It is iconic! Nothing from this venue in 1989 will be blocked. Thanks again Lee✌️. You are awesome👏🙌💯

Thanks for playing these tunes (don't let the "you should play this one or that one get you down) - most of us have seen them all and just enjoy seeing someone enjoying a song for the
first time (which is what you do - and you're honest if you do or don't like it) - you can always listen to another version later or on your own. I enjoy your heartfelt
commentary and how the music makes you feel. That's what it's all about. I really appreciate your hard work. I've told my friends about your channel and to give it a look. You're

Here's what I read. Lenny was written for his wife on demand to outdo pride and joy (major hit written for longterm gf). They both struggled with alcohol, drugs and his new fame. Riviera p was written as he traveled French Riviera after sobriety and meeting his last love. From his in step album.

    • @Donnagilbert6497

I heard he wrote it sitting on the edge of the bed after Lenny gathered the money to purchase the guitar he’d wanted but could not afford. ( the guitar is also named “Lenny” by SRV). It was a “Thank you.” You can hear the passion as well as the ups and downs of their relationship. I’d take that song over any gift. The “El Mocambo” performance is my favorite.❤ Keep on doing Stevie!!

I believe he has combined the two songs here. You can hear “Lenny” by itself with the El Macombo performance. Worth checking it out!

Lenny, Stevie's wife, was always a volatile element in his life, almost to a love/hate point, and if you listen closely you'll hear that represented as this tune slowly progresses.

    RIP: SRV 💔🔥🎸U R Missed
Hey Lee, thank you for this...Huge SRV fan, here I'm sorry about the "Santana-Soul Sacrifice video" those Woodstock videos get a bit confusing. My apologies, I will try to do better. 🙏
I thought I'd suggest another song by SRV, if interested. Oh, and keep in mind Stevie Ray never played any concert exactly the same. He always tried to make each performance a bit special for his fans. "Stevie Ray Vaughan - Mary Had A Little Lamb (Live)" (by the channel: Arturo Vaccarielli)
We appreciate you, Lee. I enjoy hearing your honest analysis and earnest breakdowns of how these wonderful tunes make you feel. (IMHO) I find these tunes like medicine for the soul. And as always, I enjoyed rocking with you, and thanks for sharing. peace Out~

It's not always how many notes you can play per second. Imagine SRV and Hendrix jamming together. I think the expressions on a guitarist's face when he/she is playing says it all. It's a soul thing.

🎸Stevie's definitely having a conversation of another tune with Lenny here. You really haven't heard Lenny until you see him perform it at their El Mocambo show, 1983 at the beginning of their first world tour for their first record, Texas Flood. 🌠

  • @s.s.2048

You feel what you feel, man, but FWIW, when Stevie would introduce Riviera Paradise in concert he would dedicate it to all of those out there "still suffering" (it was written after he got clean) and I really feel like he meant for it to be a few minutes of "peace" for those who needed that in their lives and in their souls. Maybe the next time you listen to it keep that in mind and instead of bringing back memories of that dark place you were in, it will make you grateful that you pulled yourself out of it. Whatever the case, your honesty about your struggles is appreciated and as somebody who has "been there," I can tell you that being real with yourself is the foundation upon which a lot of future success can be built.💪

If you get the chance, watch the entire El Mocambo concert. He plays what many of us feel is some of the best examples of Stevie's talent. He does a version of "Lenny" that is truly haunting.
This video was mainly a slightly altered version of "Lenny". There might be some things in there from "Riviera Paradise", but it's mainly 'Lenny".
To get a good recording of "Riviera Paradise," watch the show from Austin City Limits 1989. Watch the whole show since it is another concert with some amazing stuff throughout it.
Believe me, it will be worth watching both of these performances.

    Lee,
You are an inspiring fellow. Your understanding of what you’re hearing is deep and authentic, even quite funny at times. When you said that The Electric Prunes looked like prunes in their outfits it was hilarious. Man, can you do a video on your own growth through your channel. What did you think “music’ was about before and now. Are you in a band now, what’s your own musical history? I get the feeling that you created this channel to rehabilitate yourself after a troubled youth. Ten hats off to you man. You made it through the eye of the needle. At some point are you going to start recording to synthesize all of the incredible music that you’ve been showcasing. Carry on brother.

Riveria Paradise, the last track, on the last album, with Double Trouble....In Step. Was an instrumental, a sequel of sorts to Lenny a decade earlier. The studio track is epic...not only for the talent, and production, but it was recorded in one take, and as the engineer, watched, the tape ( no computer digital pro tools Bs)...the reel to reel tapes was winding down, and Stevie had his back to the control room, he finished, the track...with 7 seconds left..before the tape ran out. Which meant if it had run out, the whole track we could have been Scrubbed.
IN STEP, was SRV"s...hope for any addict, anywhere , anytime..to know, know matter how low you go, how high you can rise. ❤
PS , it don't happen over night.

Thanks! Just finished rewatching and wanted to add another recommendation for Stevie Ray Sunday🎸🎶💙. You are ready to react to another Stevie original Life Without You as performed at the Capitol,Theatre 1985. (No blocking from this concert). It is a huge fan favorite and was composed after the sudden passing of Charley Wirz, a good friend and guitar shop owner. This performance has lots of surprises I won't reveal but one is stopping to deliver a still timely message. You can thank me later😉✌️💯

He would be heartbroken over the number of times he gets praised and Double Trouble gets completely ignored. Be a trend setter and give them the credit they deserve.
