    As a mechanical engineer I am so happy to see a real test being done on line with proper stress strain calculation and software. I've tried to explain to so many other "testers" what's need to accurately test a line.

    I was just curious about the results of a "lab" test done on this brand. I've bought 4 different colors and 3 different strengths. 125yds of hi-vis blue and yellow, camo green, and u just got the silky 8 white. I've pond tested and lake tested. I haven't changed or added with the blue or camo green since the day I put it on. And I've caught plenty off of all of them. I still have 2 spools loaded with the yellow, and I'm excited about this silky white. I've pulled bass out of laydowns, drug them off of rock beds, and out from under docks with zero issues. The one negative I have is that when you're spooling and you put a lot of tension to start, some of the color comes off easily. But so far, that's my only downside. Interesting video, though, but I've had no abrasion or breaking problems out of this brand. ** I do always use 6-10' leader, but I'd do the same with the most "high priced" name on the market. Thanks for the video!

    awesome test!! line diameter is definitely a contributing factor to the actual breaking strength.

    Hi, thank you for the video. As I understood from the videos and your web site, you mostly liked sufix 832, right? Cost effective and good stats. So, which one is your 2nd? What do you suggest? Thank you.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 832 tested extremely well overall and is definitely a top performer coming in at Number 2 for outright tensile strength and 3rd for Abrasion. The top line is still the WFT Gliss 6kg which i am using one one of my setups right now and it performs great in the real world also. What's right for you depends on a lot of things so its tough to say as it certainly depends on what type of fishing you do and what your preferences are.

    Hi, I've just discovered your channel, and as scientist, i'm joining Rainbo Sprinkles, seeing normalized tests makes me happy :D !
    I'm not a field specialist, so I have few questions, about diameter measurements. You're using a numeric method, while many people use a micrometer.
    I'm still wondering, does using a micrometer is reliable ? As I suppose braid even the tightest ones, can be a little compressed under the micrometer jaws, there will always be errors, right ? Also, as the weaving isn't the same for all, (also if the person measuring is different, or not always using the same micrometer or not the exact same compression ...), it will further lead to measurements errors, no ? Or am I complicating things too much ?
    Another issue, is that lots of braids aren't round, some are pretty flat XD ! And depending the way you're assessing the diameter, you could find radically different diameters ... But that's also applicable for your digital method.
    May I suggest to make a visual inspection for roundness during the "line inspection" part, and try to make a rotation of the line to measure an other "side" ?
    It is also a great thing that you're also willing to test aliexpress fishing line, your work is amazing and will help our choice :).
    I didn't see all the videos yet, but last question (sorry for being to long, but great work always makes me too much enthusiastic XD), which line is the beast according to your tests ? :)
    Ok I have another one, promise it is the last ! How can you find that much difference, on pretty much all tested braided lines (didn't checked the monofilament yet ;) ), is it just a measurement method difference ? Lies from manufacturers ?
    Cheers and keep the good work :) !

      Hi Maurice, thanks for taking the time to respond! I will try to address your questions:
      I agree with your comments on using a micrometer. It relies on the user using the exact correct pressure each time so as to not squash the braid, which is likely very difficult.
      Your also correct on the “roundness”. Generally the lower strand count braids (ie: 4 strand) are not round at all and I try to demonstrate that in the videos. When the line is moved under the microscope you can clearly see huge changes in diameter. This is the reason I take multiple measurements at various random points in the line to account for the out-of-roundness. This is similar to your suggestion of rotating the line.
      Which line is the best? Currently, just based on raw numbers the WFT Gliss comes out on top. If you go here: linelaboratory.com/braid-testing-summary/ you can see all the results and look at the ranking of each line.
      Finally, why the huge differences in what the manufacture claims and what I test? I believe there are 2 things going on. 1: Their diameter claims are rarely ever close, most of the time way under what they actually are (for braids). I can only assume they don’t actually measure them and just make a guess. 2: for the breaking strain, they typically test way over what they claim. Again I am not sure why, I can make a guess that they rate them at the absolute minimum to account for bad knots, or differences in raw materials etc. Its so common that it feels like they all have to do it to appear competitive. I have actually reached out to a few manufactures to ask them those 2 exact questions. Tasline was the only one that ever responded even though other manufactures acknowledged my email, just never gave any reasons for their claims.

    The next Kastking braid you should try is the "Kastking Mega8" is the best that kastking have and the price is reasonable too around 13$ per 275meters.

      Coincidentally I got some Mega 8 sent to me just yesterday by a subscriber so the test results for that one will be published soon.

    Can you post the displacement of the lines? I'm curious how much actual stretch there is

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  ปีที่แล้ว

      Stretch isn't something I am able to directly measure at this point in time, I am only looking at the force exerted. I guess we could make some assumptions based on the extension speed (5.7mm/sec theoretical) and the time taken until failure but I do have silicon rubber on the posts to allow extra grip for the line, and this definitely compresses so that would need to be taken into account somehow.
