    If saying "NO" to a hustler is a big deal to you, or it can make you angry for the rest of the day, it's not good for you.
    These guys approach hundreds of people a day, they are used to hearing "no thank you" 99% of the time.
    Just say the word directly. They won't be angry, it's just acting. Don't feel bad for them, most of the time it's young people or retired people trying to make a buck, just change your perspective about it, it's not that bad once you are used to, even locals get harassed like that.
    Also in the North of Morocco you can't be filming the "local market" that's not good in mediteranean culture. You have to understand people don't want their wives to appear in a youtube video while going to the market to buy tomatoes ... There is a touristic market for filming.
    Also in the local market you were there is a cocain and extasy buisness, and the guys are dangerous. Don't film them they will think you are an undercover police.
    Take care.

    After hearing the name "John Malkovich" six times in two minutes I gave up watching.
    What is it with JM?
    He's not the greatest actor of all time, he's just another actor.
    Was looking forward to seeing this as the Continental is my kind of hotel but can't take anymore JM!

      The next part of the video does not contain much more about Mr Malkovich, it is not like I meet him or something...maybe not he number 1 actor, but he has done some hysterically funny characters...don´t give up on the video just yet Sir!

    Obviously not a seasoned traveller. Doing it on the cheap too with just a backpack.
    Maybe he would be better spending his holidays in his back yard.

    This is an informative video. Thanks for the boot on the ground view and experience. I will be visiting Tangier in a few weeks. This give me some sense of a couple types of hustlers to look out for and ways to avoid or deal with them. Thanks for the heads that chat, that its okay to film the streets.

    Tangier is bonkers. It is actually worth paying a "guide". Tell them exactly what you want to see or do and they will stop you getting hassled from anyone and will also do all your haggling for you if you wish to shop. Morrocco is an amazing country but can be an exhausting holiday.

  • @liamkatt6434
    @liamkatt6434 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I was in Tangier in 1993 and 1994. Nothing much changed except in those days the grand taxis were all yellow Mercedes and the petit taxis were all Peugots or Renaults. The scammers were just the same...usually 'do you want a guide?' or 'will you help me with my English lessons?' You are dead right. Be firm and polite but not afraid. I had a few occasions where they turned physically aggressive but I am a former amateur boxer it did not end well for them. Like you I have never been to other cities but I believe all others are safer. George Burrows the writer had a way of knocking the hustlers off the pavement with his elbows!

    When they get angry I say "f**k off before I call the police"

      We have had the best luck just not making eye contact. It is annoying because I feel like I have to be unfriendly in their city but if you just say hello or good day they start to follow you.

      Well it could work it also could work completely reversed because they might feel threatened by your claim wich wont do ya any good. The people u see sometimes that are trying to be guides are just broke and have kids to feed

  • @fats3973
    @fats3973 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    These people are not scammers and hustlers, they invite you in hoping to make a 7:42 sale, but they and cannot force you, as for the guide, the trick is to say no from the beginning and totally ignore them, he was obviously looking for a job, and in a country where there is no state benefits whatsoever, so just so no thank you and walk away.

    • @sandvenexplorer
      @sandvenexplorer  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It’s true my first impression was : puhhhhh , wild here - be careful

    You’re more patient than I am Chris. If he’d touched my camera I’d have knocked him out.
    I’ve experienced this behaviour in Morocco and in Egypt, perhaps it’s an Arab thing? I mean I’ve had touts annoy me in the Caribbean, South Africa, Italy, pretty much everywhere but never as bad as in Arab countries, it’s like they feel the tourists owe them a living.
    Great film mate. 👍🏼

      @@sandvenexplorer Ha ha ha ha. I appreciate the humour.

      @sandvenexplorer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They sure do a LOT of damage...odd they don´t just crack down on it yes...I am sure police here can be tough if they want to. I find that speaking a few phrases in Arabic helps....they know I have been here a while and see straight through them. One even apologized when I said I had been here 20 times....more like three times, but it helps...

      @@sandvenexplorer After seeing the Pyramids and Sphinx a wee tout tried to sell us a “crystal” pyramid. A huge Egyptian cop grabbed him and slapped him hard round the face.
      I asked the tour guide if that was commonplace, he said no, the only reason he was slapped is because the little pyramid was only glass, not crystal. 😂
      The cops are all in on it, they get a cut every night. Corrupt af mate. Seen it in Italy too.
      A bit of Arabic language will for sure help.

    Went there about fifteen years ago,the hassle and intimidation as soon as we left the boat was crazy ,got spat at by children and throat cutting gestures made to me ,had to make an escape in a fast taxi from a violent tourist guide and consequently caught the next boat back to Spain but even before getting on board i was swindled out of money by port police to check our tickets and passport although they had a place to do this so i had to do it again .never have i regretted going to a place so much and literally kissed the Spanish soil on arriving back .not for the faint hearted .
