- This week we start work on the wife's new X5 by getting rid of the grinding noise that was happening while turning. We replace the controls arms, tie rods, and stabilizer links. The noise is gone and now we're ready to dig deeper into the can of worms next week!

I have the EXACT same car, same color too! I just did this to the car and I replaced everything, even all the ball joints about two weeks ago. I did driver side first and there was a learning curve, a lot of cussing, straining sounds, grunts, etc. Then I did the other side in about an hour! It’s amazing what you can do when you know what to do!
Big help thanks.
Thank you on rhe tie rod end ❤
Who sells the ratchet with the hole in the center? never seen one...Awesome tool!! MUST HAVE!! My 2002 X5 has only 90 k miles on it! Spent 16 of 18 years in `Vero Beach Florida. I have had it in Illinois for 2 years and it still has not seen salted road, AND I STILL COULD NOT GET THE TIE ROD END OFF! Thanks for the video, just ordered inner tie rod end, worth an extra $30 and no headaches!! Thanks, great video!
its a craftsman set, I think you can find it on Amazon from 3rd party sellers last I checked. We got it at Sears during their going out of business sales!

torn Axle Boot --- why didn't you replace that, while doing all this work, in the same area? ... won't Dirt / Debris enter, & prematurely destroy the Axle?
Ordered the parts and did it in the follow up video as well as the wheel bearing. Discovered the test doing this job so we just didn't have the part at the time. Local availability is limited for us.
And yes to the dirt and debris causing damage.
Whwre did you get parts
almost everything we've gotten for the BMW's has been RockAuto, but be careful with part numbers that are on your specific vehicle... easy to order wrong on these.
You guys didn't include the amount, type, or the process of greasing the boots.
synthetic grease, grease to where we felt it was enough to not blow out the boot. not a very technical process to layout and a lot of personal preference involved in grease type.
I see that you didnt replace that recessed/pressed ball joint in the steering knuckle. i wonder why. lol. its a bitch. i just did all the same on my 06 x5 e53 n62. if you were having any vibration in the steering wheel or brake pedal while under braking. thats the cause. it'll come back eventually unless thats replaced. oh. almost forgot. if youre having a camber problem in the rear end. its prob the rear wheel carrier bushing. also known as a rear ball joint. replacing that i the only fix for rear camber issues. have fun nd good luck. any ??s send me a mssg.
