I might be making comments 8 years too late but, the 'W' on the oil grade is not the 'Weight', the 'W' is for Winter. The oil gets thinner as it gets hotter, not thicker. Also these engines are not designed to run on a synthetic or semi synthetic oil, mineral based only ie. no detergents, if there is detergents in the oil then all the sediment in the bottom of the engine will be pumped around the lubrication system, which is not what you want because the engine doesn't have an oil filter. Mineral oils leave the sludge in the sump, which could be washed out with white spirits through the inspection hatch, sump plug removed, sludge removed.
Fantastic job mate. I've just got one, could you help me out? Mine has no dipstick and getting hold of one or any imfo on the amount of oil it should have is none existent. Would you have any idea how much it should hold so i can make a dipstick for it. Thanks in advance for any help you can supply. Cheers, Steve.

Not after that hard work, just enjoy.
When I worked on these for a living back in the early 70,s the ones which were worked hard ran the cleanest!
