In the latest clip, Omar Gooding talked about the NFL pressuring ESPN to cancel its "Playmakers" series. He said the show's production got off to a tense start as the NFL already didn't like the idea. The show was filmed in Canada and cast members were discouraged from ever mentioning the NFL while promoting the show. Despite the show's success, the series was still cancelled after one season. Playmakers was 'The Wire' of a football tv show. It was realistic. None of the characters were completely good or bad. It changed depending on the situation just like The Wire. The thing that was annoying is it did not use NFL teams. It was a fictional team so I don't get why the NFL was mad

We have the entire series on our channel. This show should've ran for years! Now we know today this show is accurate as hell and the NFL couldn't handle it.

i have friends that played in the NFL and they told me personally that "Playmakers" really made the suits moreso nervous than the players. I thought it was a dope show.

It was very realistic that’s why. The NFL doesn’t want you to see the dark side, or truthful side of the NFL. Even though most smart fans already know what’s up
The first mistake was being on ESPN. They should of did what The Rock show Ballers did and went to HBO. NFL didn’t like Ballers neither but it was on HBO so wasn’t shit they could do.

Im glad they talked about playmakers. I was on my 8th grade football team and we all watched it. It was argurbly one of the best television shows espn produced.

Was waiting for this part, Man i loved that show and was so disappointed it was canceled. Omar was very good and believable in that. Had the DVD set for a while.
Playmakers was jumping. I knew it had to be some other reason it was cancelled besides the ratings because everyone was watching it. It was like the show "Ballers" with a touch of this movie from back in the day called "The Program". Dealt with all aspects of professional football players.
The program is a unsung classic sports movie , college version of any given sunday
Hell yea the Program was the shit. I remember it was so controversial they made them take that scene out where they all laying down in the middle of a highway for like an invitation cuz some teens did that in real life and got killed.

Playmakers was one of my favorite shows of all times.
I was soooo ready for season 2.
I’m shocked that it even got one full season. The show was incredibly realistic and making the NFL look bad so of course the NFL was going to demand to cancel it. It should’ve never been on ESPN in the first place, they just figured that’s the best way to promote a new show in pilot status to sports fans. If it was on AMC or USA network, it would’ve had multiple seasons since NFL has no leverage against those networks. And it couldn’t gotten move the next seasons because ESPN owned the rights. So by ESPN buying the rights to the show, it never stood a chance. And I love Playmakers, watching it as an 18 yr old in my college dorm on the flatter CRT tvs.
